Why Can't Manufacturers Make Biodegradable Disposable Diapers?Jan 08 '01 Write an essay on this topic.I have cute little boy that was born 3 years ago in April. He has my eyes which are very dreamy and innocent. His teeth are as white as snow, some of the whitest I've ever seen. He is also calm cool and collective as me which is one of the best perks I possess. Enough of the background information and lets get down to some serious business. I'm here to talk about disposable diapers, one of the best inventions since the indoors toilet! Well there's a big hoopla over the whole thing with polluting the environment and strongly I feel also. The current components that disposable diapers are composed of take around 500 years to degrade. While cloth diapers are made of cotton they break down in considerably less time. The clean up process, however, is one of the messiest you'll probably ever encounter. I tip my hat to all of the other faithful parents who see fit to use cloth diapers vs disposable diapers. You have to go through the rigorously stinky process of dipping the little stinkers in the toilet ridding them of poop, oh I used to dread this so! But to save a little money when things got tight, you did what had to be done. What a luxury to use the toss in the can diapers vs the toilet dunkers, lol. But they pose an enormous threat to the environment. Think of the billions of people who use disposable diapers because they lack the time or stomach to ring and wash cloth diapers. This can cause an incredibly large pill up of trash that won't break down naturally for around half of a millenium. Multiply multiple disposable diaper changes by a couple of billion and guess what, landfills become swamped and crowded with billions of tons of material that will be around when our ancestors inhabit the planet. Our kid's diapers will be around when our futuristic ancestors are born, hopefully by that time the situation will ceases to exist. These companies come up with every other type of innovation, why not biodegradable disposable diapers. With the active bacteria from the poop and urine to assist in degradation, we gain years of space saving breakdown time. How hard would it be to fabricate a disposable diaper shell composed of a celluloid fiber that is water proof but breaks down when exposed to bacteria and a core that is also composed of a natural high absorbancy material with the same degradation characteristics? Maybe they have this technology already and make more money off of regular disposable diapers? What ever the case, they need to get on the ball and make an environmentally friendly diaper that is in the same price bracket of current brands. I think its kind of like the same crisis we face with petroleum burning vehicles. They pollute the air and cause us so many problems but yet automobile manufacturers do nothing to really stop the harmful pollution. They are trying to hold back a technology that has been around for thousands of years, electricity. With billions of dollars to be made from fuel distribution no wonder we haven't seen these little electric cars on the market for general use by the public. Think about it how much could it cost to charge a bank of batteries compared to filling up a tank with gas, comparable mileage ranges at full capacity. You be the judge and make your own decision. I feel like they give us what they make the most money from. WE, being the busy, tired, or lazy people that we are fall for it every time. What a monopoly they have from our use of disposable diapers. One person alone spends an average of 35 dollars per month on disposable diapers. Multiply that by a couple of billion, no wonder they keep the whole scandal going $$$$$$$$$$ !!! |
