Its About Choice

Breast or Bottle? A frequently asked question. The Answer? Do what makes you feel comfortable. If your not comfortable your baby will sense it. Weather or not breast milk is best will be meaningless if your uncomfortable and the baby is feeling it.
I chose breast. It was hard at first but I stuck it out. Everyone told me to do it differently which caused me to have cracked and infected nipples. OUCH I was concerned so I asked an OBGYN (not my own). She said to stop right away or I would give the baby an infection. I then spoke with a Pediatrician who said "don't stop". If anything the baby would give me an infection. I stuck with it and soon the soreness stopped and I enjoyed the breast feeding experience. I chose it again with my second.
My sister has flat nipples. She was told that she could never breast feed her children. She proved them wrong. She has 2 children and nursed them both for 11 months. It was hard for her in the beginning but after working with the lactation nurses she got the hang of it. If you have that problem don't listen to the negative responses people will give you. Talk with someone who knows and will support you.
I think the key to success of breast feeding is to surround yourself with positive, supportive people. The last thing you need is someone discouraging you. If you find that happening put an end to it right away. If you really want to breast feed but have problems or concerns ask someone who specializes. The La-Leche League or your hospitals lactation specialists are the best sources. It doesn't cost anything and they will go out of their way to help.
Breast feeding is a very personal thing. I don't believe you bond any differently. I don't know about anyone else but I bonded with both of my children the minute I found out I was pregnant. It didn't have anything to do with the fact that I breast fed. In some ways its easier and in some ways it isn't. I don't believe anyone who breast feeds is a better mother and I would never look down on someone who chooses to bottle feed. I think making the right choice for you and your baby is the most important thing. No one can tell you what the right choice is for you. Only you know the answer.
