Real Dads, Moms, and Kids

Several years ago my handsome husband and I learned that we were unable to have biological children. We still wanted to be parents and soon pursued adoption as a way to build our family. After many years of pain, tears, waiting, and adoptions falling through, our prayers were answered when a precious newborn was placed in our arms.
We bonded with our baby almost immediately. In the "early days", we spent many hours holding and rocking our baby, or just watching her sleep.
Through the years we've sat up all night when she was sick, held her when she was frightened, rushed into her room when she screamed from a bad dream, walked the hospital halls with her during a bout of pneumonia, and I could go on. We heard her first word, and witnessed her first steps. We encourage her when she has a bad day at school. We love her more than life itself, and she is the joy of our lives. I cannot imagine our lives without her.
While we eternally grateful for the couple who gave her life, we are, without a doubt, living proof that it doesn't necessarily take blood to make a "real" family.
