Oh To Be A Child….
So numerous are the wonders of childhood! Emulators of the environment around them and owners of a most vivid imagination!
All need air to survive. Water is a necessity as well. But, I really cannot imagine a single day without submersion among children and witnessing the adventures of their playtime! Childhood is all about a day of play that really is work. It is work that is literally casting within them who they will be as an adult. A woman who has immense experience with young ones is bringing those statements to you!
The joy filled moments of engaging in pretend play with children is a daily luxury for me. Knowing that the adventure filled moments they have will aid with their ability to be a responsible care giver some day, is so rewarding! And, what a wonderful time to foster good eating habits. Thus begins my explanation for why I prefer the Little Tikes Doll High Chair.
That Was Then….
One of the things that my mother and father provided for us was plenty of opportunities to pretend play. We engaged into hard-pressed “workdays”.
Certainly the toys were different for my dear sister and I. Our highchair was a garage sale find. It was metal; rust had started to overcome it and what paint it donned was chipped. Prior to allowing us playtime with it, my mom carefully cleansed, scoured, and repainted it. I remember the seat was pink, the frame black, and she even took the careful time to adhere a fuzzy lamb emblem.
We were certainly proud of this “find”. Oh how we loved to use it for our dolls, stuffed animals, and when willing – the cat also went into it for feasts. We were imitating what we had seen our dear mother and the other parents around us do. We took our job of play serious, and my Moms “find” greatly helped us to do just that.
This Is Now….
Little Tikes Doll High Chair
Fast-forward many years, of course I knew the importance of pretend play and was ever so eager to acquire a pretend highchair for my first daughter. Memories abounded me of the pink and black highchair that withstood so many hours of play. There was just the matter of which high chair I would find appropriate for my darling daughter.
The search began and ended quickly. There was no questioning that the Little Tikes Doll High Chair was the most durable one available. At that time we made our purchase at Toys-R-Us for $14.99. They are currently priced at 19.99, and include accessories.
Our Little Tikes Highchair has resided here for 8 years! I can honestly proclaim that it is durable and well worth the purchase price! It receives daily use. I operate an in-home licensed day care/preschool, so the demands on toys in this home are large.
Nitty ~ Gritty….
The Little Tikes Doll High Chair is made from molded plastic. Unlike my childhood chair, no painful bumps on the head from this one! No refurbishing for Mom! Ours is pink with a cream tray. They now are purple with a cream tray and the set includes a baby bottle, a bowl, and a spoon.
Our chair has withstood many hours of pretend play. The children have by no means been gentle with it. Turned on its side, it makes a fairly good step stool. Not advising that to be a noted use purpose. Merely speaking from experience.
Although it is designed to easily place and remove dolls up to 20” tall, it facilitates all sizes of dolls my girls have used in it (exempt from this statement is the My Size Barbie). It has also been used with buzz lighter, blue, Winnie-the-pooh, and many other items of pretend play. Thankfully our cat has not fallen victim to this chair, yet, anyway.
The recommended age is 18 months and older. I have witnessed children 12 months and up enjoy this chair. The age span that seems the most interested in utilizing this high chair is three - five year olds.

GRIPE: If only they would drop the word “Doll” from the name title! For it facilitates much more! And what a remarkable opportunity unfolds for communication during pretend play!
Enough Said….
In closing, I really want to stress the importance of pretend play. Let us not be succumbing to a gender preference. In our home you will find a wide variety of pretend items. Future Dads need just as much practice as future Moms. I highly stress the importance of playing alongside your child.
