Finding Good Childcare
Aug 06 '00
I am fortunate enough to have a friend who has an in home daycare that my son goes to. She is a great childcare provider, and is very successful. There are some qualities that I believe make her so successful.
1) Cleanliness. Her house is spotless. You know you don't have to worry about rats or cockroaches, and there are less germs lurking about. Its nice to know that my son spends his day in a nice, clean environment.
2) Schedule- It is important for children to have a set schedule of activities. In the mornings, the children get breakfast or a snack (depending on what time everyone arrives). Then it is play room time, then circle time. By then, it is lunch time. After lunch, they go outside for awhile. Then comes quiet time, where they watch a movie, and the little ones take a nap.
3) Special activities- Occasionally, Nikki will have special activities, such as taking the kids to McDonalds or having volunteers and taking the kids to the zoo. She will also do crafts with them, and for every holiday, she has a party.
The best thing about my friend is she CARES about the kids. She has pictures of them all over, and she happily tells you about their day.
Finding good childcare is hard work, but it can be done. Good luck!
