Large Families Only Mean More Love
Aug 10 '00
I'm surprised to hear so many people today say that they don't want children or that they only want one child. It makes me wonder where people's values are today. Is a career everything? Don't people want a family anymore? Of course, a person should have the job/career that they want, but in the end its family that makes people happy. I come from a family of five children and by all means I'm glad my mother had so many children. I feel that my life is full because I have so many family members around me.
I know that having a family, especially a large family can be costly and I don't recommend that anyone blindly have so many children if they can't afford it. But in having children, it is selfish to say that you want just one. Often single children are the loneliest or the most selfish adults. In my opinion family is the greatest thing in the world and often the larger it is the greater. My grandmother had 10 children, and though many said she couldn't afford it or, "she had no business with so many children" she did the best she could and she raised a wonderful family. My parents had 5 children and the same comments were said about them but look at us now. I'm the youngest, a pre-med student, the oldest is an NYPD detective and all those in between are just as successful, and we were raised in infamous Bedford Stuyvesant, Brooklyn.
Believe me I want a large family. I know that I will have a wonderful, loving family someday, neither money or a career can take the place of that.
