A Labor of Love

The first most exciting is the first day I held my son. The second most exciting day of my life was when a girl I hardly knew gave me the opportunity to experience her labor with her. I had only met my friend 1 time prior to the day she asked if I wanted to witness her labor.

To many people this may seem weird to ask someone she barely knew (but I am very grateful that she did). My friend truly is one of the most giving people I know. Not only was I a stranger to her I was the only one that they invited to witness this miracle.

My friend 4 years earlier gave the most selfless gift anyone could give and that is the opportunity to be parents to a family in the midwest.
She knew that she could not give her baby all that her baby deserved at the time.

Now she was experiencing the birth of her first child with her new husband. Originally she had wanted it to be a private event for them to share. However she changed her mind and with permission of her husband they both said that it would honor them to have me share this moment with them.

I say this with tears in my eyes because the reason they asked ME was because they can understand all that a person misses when they are unable to have children of there own. I am infertile and our son is adopted. I feel that she gave me the opportunity to experience something that I otherwise would never be able to experience.

Like I said this is clearly one of the most giving people I know. She hardly knew me yet she is willing to allow me with her in her most exciting day. I will forever feel as one of the most lucky people around. I have the best of friends and a beautiful child.
