I Took My Punkin' to the Pumpkin Patch

My daughter had her first birthday in October. Her father and I were looking for a fun way to celebrate her big event with as little muss and fuss on our part as possible. We also wanted to work in a fall theme. We ultimately decided on a day at the local pumpkin farm.
We had about 20 adults and 20 children ranging in age from a few months old to four years old. The afternoon started with hot dogs and cider served on picnic tables at the farm. The food was included in our package. After lunch, I served cupcakes, which I provided.
Next, we had a hayride. There were so many of us, that we got a tandem hay cart. I had never seen this before. It was two carts hitched together. The older kids thought this was serious fun. The hayride took us about fifteen minutes until we reached the pumpkin patch. Everyone was able to search and pick the perfect pumpkin. Afterwards, everyone
gathered in front of the hay carts for a group picture.
This party only lasted about 2 hours, which is just about the perfect length for children in this age range. All I had to do was show up and provide the cake. Everything else was taken care of. This cost be $5 per person. I think this is about the same as if we had chosen to do a party at McDonald’s or somewhere similar. Yet, it was something many
of the kids had not done. I felt that the money was well spent, especially since I didn’t have to cook or clean my house for guests!
One of the most fun things in having this kind of party was dressing up my little one. She wore farmer denim overalls with a white turtle neck and red plaid flannel shirt. She certainly looked the part! The pictures from this day are adorable and will be a good reminder of all the fun we had with her first birthday.
