To Nurse or Not to Nurse...THAT IS THE QUESTION!
Feb 14 '00
Ok, there is soooo much debate over breastfeeding these days, but when it comes down to it, there is only one person who can make that decision on whether to breastfeed your child or not, and that person is YOU.
Yes, breastfeeding is best, nutritionally and sometimes emotionally. Yes I breastfed both of my children and I am still currently breastfeeding my 14 month old, but I know how hard it can be for some mothers and how time-consuming and frustrating it can be at the same time. I myself, have been trying to wean, or AT LEAST, get my daughter to take a bottle or a cup for the last 6 months. She's addicted. <smile> Although, I am not forcing her to wean, it is very hard on me at times. She is overly attached and has been that way since birth.
I know children at this age are very attached to their mothers, and I know it is normal. So, no, I'm not complaining! I love the bond that I have with my daughter. What I am trying to say though, is that you do NOT HAVE to breastfeed to have that bond. I only breastfed my first daughter for 3 months, and we have an incredible mother-daughter bond. Of course she is not as attached to me as my baby, but we are very close and the love between us can not be compared, you other mothers know what I am talking about.
All I'm saying, is that new mothers should NOT be pressured into breastfeeding if that is not what they feel is best for them. Everyone has a right to do what they think is best for their child. And formula fed babies DO grow up to be smart, healthy, happy individuals, I know, because I have one.
