Finally, a "cure" for me!
May 05 '00
I have been pregnant five times. And believe me, I tried EVERYTHING to make that yucky nausea go away......ginger ale, ginger capsules, saltines in the morning before getting out of bed, jello, orange-scented candles, and even some acupressure wrist bands that were supposed to stop nausea. None of those things helped me a bit. With my first pregnancy, the vomiting was day and night, and I was losing weight and dehydrating. The only thing that kept me out of the hospital was sipping hot beef broth once in a while, and sucking homemade frozen 7-Up popsicles.
By the time I got to the fourth pregnancy, I was desperate for a cure to my horrible, "all-day" sickness that seemed to always last through 13 weeks gestation and then disappear. My OBGYN doctor told me to start taking a vitamin B6 supplement (in ADDITION to a prenatal vitamin). I laughed and said, "No, you don't understand. I can't keep anything down. I will just throw it up." But he insisted I try. He said to just try really hard to keep it down for a half hour, so it could get into my system. So I did, and much to my amazement, the nausea ceased completely!! I continued taking B6 daily through the first trimester and was not bothered with morning sickness or "any-other-time-of-day" sickness again in the pregnancy. It worked again with my last pregnancy.
Check with your Doctor and ask about taking a B6 supplement. He can advise you what the dosage should be. (Mine said the amount of B6 in a prenatal vitamin is not enough.) If you know you're prone to morning sickness from a previous pregnancy, get started early in the next pregnancy so you can prevent nausea before it starts. It really is worth a try, it made a HUGE difference in my case!
