Sexually Transmitted Diseases - what you need to know (part 1)

When you think about your teenage daughter or son having sex for the first time, what are you concerned about most? Many parents would say that pregnancy is their main concern. What about sexually transmitted diseases (STDs)? Are you fully aware of how they are spread, and how many people have them? More importantly, are your kids?
There are many wonderful parents that sit down with their kids and explain the importance of safe sex. During these talks, how much are you explaining about STDs? In my experience, there are many sexually active teenagers who are not aware of how easy it is to contract an STD. Many believe, as with pregnancy, that it can never happen to me. Think again.
Everyone needs to be informed about this subject, I have talked with people that, after 20 years of marriage, have developed symptoms of an STD. I have talked with teenagers who've developed symptoms and had no idea what it was or how it can be transmitted. Most people are devastated at first when they realize it could have been prevented. You and your kids need to really understand the facts in order to be safe.
The STDs you should be highly informed of are Chlamydia, Crabs, Genital Warts, Hepetitis B, Herpes, Gonorrhea, HIV/AIDS, Scabies and Syphillis. Some of these do not produce symptoms in many people, therefore are more widespread because folks are not aware they even have an STD.
I was going to include descriptions of each of the major STDs here, but I started writing and realizing that it would make this epinion WAY TOO LONG and no one would read it all. So I am going to post the facts, signs and symptoms, and other information you need to know in a few seperate articles. Please take the time to read through them, the information is very important.
