We adopted...24 years ago....thank you, birth mother
Mar 07 '00
My husband and I were able to have children, but decided we wanted to adopt. This was 24 years ago, and we wanted to adopt a hard to place child.
We went through our county welfare department....did all the reports and home study and finally about a year later we adopted a 4 month old baby boy. At the time of the adoption, I was about a month pregnant. (During this time, we decided since I was almost 30, we would have our last child and then they would be just a year apart).
I would love to meet the birth mother and thank her for the gift of our son and tell her what a wonderful young man he is.
Don't get me wrong, life was not always a bed of roses...we went through unusual teenage problems with him because he had ADD...hyperactivity, attention deficient, but we weathered the teenage years and have a wonderful relationship with our son, now married himself with two boys.
This is just to reassure mothers and mothers-to-be that give up their child for adoption that it is the right reason and those of us who adopted children know that that decision was made out of love and unselfishness.
Again, from adoptive parents, thank you for your decision.
