Who is the genius that thought up the name "morning sickness"?

When I was first pregnant with my son, I didn't know I was pregnant yet, and at about 11 am my stomach would get upset. I would go eat lunch and be fine...so here I am thinking I have a touch of the flu or something. (The "flu" ended up being a 7 lb 11 oz red headed boy). The morning sickness only lasted about 2 months, then went away thank goodness!! I found as did a few other epinioners, that if I kept something in my stomach, I didn't feel as sick.
Then I had to go and get pregnant with my daughter....for the first 6 weeks I had no morning sickness at all...so I am thinking that I am in the clear.....WRONG!!!!!!!!!!! The first day of my sixth week, I woke up sicker than a dog. And I am thinking that a man is the one that named it morning sickness....I had it ALL DAY LONG. I hardly ever vomited, but I would gag, and gag, and gag some more. I would be sitting there watching TV and start gagging, and my husband had the nerve to ask me to leave the room, he was watching TV. And to this day his mother gives him a hard time about saying that to me.
I had morning sickness so bad, I only gained 9 pounds with my daughter, and she was 7 lbs 4 1/2 oz. I was concerned that the baby wasn't getting enough nutrients because I had a hard time eating, and my Dr. bless his heart, told me that the baby was taking nutrients from my stored up fat supply. (ahhhh that's gotta make a girl feel good). I lost 25 pounds the day I gave birth...(that was a plus!!)
My doctors recomendation
I had many conversations with my OB/GYN about ideas on how to handle morning sickness. He said that he kept a list of suggestions from women of things that worked for them. Here are some....
Buy the uncooked pizza dough at the grocery store, and cook it with nothing on it..just the dough. It sounds crazy, but it does work. It is bland, and there is no strong flavor that might make you sick.
Eat canned peaches. They are also bland, so they will not upset your stomach.
I could only eat mashed potato's and gravy, bland mac and cheese from the hospital, (I worked there) and don't ask me why, but I ate steamed broccoli like no tomorrow. I HATED broccoli until I got pregnant with Courtney, but I like it now.
I also heard the theory of keeping saltine crackers by the bed and eating a few before you even sit up. And this did work for me.
If I started to feel sick, I would go lay down in a dark room, and take a nap, and when I woke up I would feel better, but not always.
I had the flu once with each baby, and I ended up in the E.R. both times from it. When you get severely dehydrated, your potassium level will drop, and if it bottoms out, you will go into cardiac arrest. If you are not able to keep anything down for more than 8 hours, are very week and shaky and your color is white or pasty looking you need tog o to the E.R. and they will hook you up to the I.V., give you fluids, and hook you up to the "banana bag". This is the potassium you need to get your level back up where they should be. Within a few hours you will feel better, but this is not something to mess around with. It could mean your life, or the life of your baby.
If you are pregnant and having morning sickness...I am so sorry. It is the most miserable thing to have to go thru. I am so glad I had it so bad on my second pregnancy, because I would not have been so eager to have another baby if it was that bad with my son.
