As a new mother, I was inundated with advice from well meaning folks on how to ease his pain using all of the traditional (and some not so traditional) remedies; chewable plastic teethers, frozen waffles, frozen washcloths, Orajel, and a whole lot more. I tried everything! Yet, nothing seemed to work for us. I was afraid to try the Orajel, as my baby is a thumb sucker and I was terrified that he would wind up with it on his hands then wipe his eyes. Teething is often very hard on the entire family, it has been on mine. As parents, we ache for our child's pain, and will likely be tired from the crying and long hours of trying to soothe their baby. The baby is most likely in a good deal of discomfort, not only from the physical pain of their tender gums but there are occasionally other associated symptoms as well. The symptoms, if any, vary child to child and some will experience the whole nine yards while others will have none. Teething children can experience mouth pain, a low grade fever, wakefulness, irritability, or even a runny nose or diarrhea. My son would always get a slight eczema type rash on his cheeks when he was about to cut a tooth and was extremely irritable, fussy and restless. When I expressed my concerns about teething to my pediatrician, he recommended that we try Hyland's Teething Tablets. He said that they were a homeopathic remedy that he had heard worked really well. I had never heard of these and was very eager to try them. I purchased a bottle of 150 very small soft tablets for $5.99 at Walmart. They are in the vitamin section with the homeopathic remedies. I brought the bottle home and read the bottle and package insert. The directions say to "Dissolve 2-3 tablets under the tongue or in a teaspoon of water 4 times daily. If the child is restless or wakeful, 2 tablets every hour for 6 doses or as recommended by a licensed health care practitioner." It goes on to say that "...if your baby has been crying or has been very upset, your baby may fall asleep after using this product because the pain has been relieved and your child can rest." Hyland's Teething tablets are 100% natural, have no side effects, and treat all of the symptoms associated with teething and colic. The tiny tablets are very soft and dissolve immediately in your mouth or can be dissolved in a small amount of water first. Oh, I was so ready to try these out, let me tell you! I administered the tablets dissolved in water to my infant son, and they worked like a charm. Within minutes, my son was cranky no more. He was soothed and quickly drifted off to dream. I couldn't believe that I had never heard of this wonderful remedy. My son is almost 16 months now, and is working on cutting 3 molars. I do not know how we could have managed without Hyland's! The only suggestion that I could offer for improvement, is to add child safety tops to the bottles.  |
