One More Mother Opposed To Infant Circumcision...
by ash_ | Sep 15 '00
Just because it seems "everyone" is circumcising their sons doesn't make it the right thing to do. If you truly want what is best for your son, don't circumcise him...

What a great review, very well-written. If even one boy is saved from this procedure then your editorial has satisfied its objective. I am very relieved that I researched the subject of circumcision before my son was born and learned the truth about the procedure in time to keep him intact.

For the young man whose friend is upset about being intact - he has the CHOICE to get circumcised when he turns 18.

Every person has the right to genital integrity so please, folks, take the whole baby home!

I hope the young man you speak of learns to take some pride in his unaltered natural body. A foreskin is an excellent stupid woman filter. I'm glad my son has one. I have hope for a smart daughter (or son) in law in the future.

Very well put. You covered all the bases. My son is also intact and if the baby I am carrying is a boy, he will be too - naturally :)

Since you obviously feel that peer pressure is more important than ethics and health, pray tell, will you encourage your children to drink, smoke, do drugs, and have casual sex in the name of popularity?

One reason that boy experienced such anguish over his NORMAL, intact, healthy, natural genitals is because of uneducated pigs who would judge a mate based solely on such.

I myself prefer an intact penis, but would NEVER reject a lover based on their status. Anyone who would judge another based solely on their genitals isn't worth knowing.

Additionally, it sounds as though his parents did not educate him on WHY he was intact, and the benefits of being so. If it was a "hush-hush" matter in their household, no wonder he felt ashamed.

consider how the baby will feel (Reply to this comment)

you're not considering how the baby would feel when he gets older and gets made fun of and HARASSED by fellow people of his/her gender for not being circumcised, i have a friend who wants to kill himself because every girlfriend he has dumps him because hes uncircumcised and when he has to shower with the other boys in the locker room people constantly make fun of him...

I wholeheartedly agree. Your post was well-written with facts to support your opinion. I would say this is a must-read for any expectant parent.

I too believe that while I am the 'custodian' of my children and am responsible for making the best decisions I can for them, I do not 'own' them and must respect them as PEOPLE - for they are not just my children, they are human beings in their own right. I have to consider how my current decisions are going to affect them down the road.

I liked your comparison as to the ridiculousness of eliminating a body part because it can get dirty.

I'm with you on this campaign!

Yeah, and you guys all have a doctorate of medicine to back up these claims. Unbelievable. The person that wrote this opinion is a witch, for Christ's sake.

After researching about circumcisions, we just could not see how anyone would do this to their child. Thanks for all the information. We left our son as nature intended him to be.

Routine infant circumcision is a human, ethical, integral, moral, and religious birthright violation! People, not just parents, need to really examine what's going on here. Based on the myths advocating R.I.C., it would be even more (il)logical to amputate girls, which is a crime in the U.S. As appauled as most are by Female Genital Mutilation, they fail to see the similarity in male circumcison. This is something that desperately needs to change, especially here in the U.S. That can take a lot of courage for society to realize what has been done to 1.25 million unconsenting American boys each year has been wrong. It's a disturbing fact that parents rarely question a practice they know so little about. I commend those of you who have, and will. It's also disturbing that doctors leaving medical school today know very little about the functions and properties of the male foreskin, though 85% of the male population of the world is intact. They (85%) must be on to something...

Great job!

I enjoyed "We are merely the custodians of our son's body, not its owner. "

And "Soap and water are plentiful in America, and there is no reason to cut off a part of someone's anatomy just because it gets dirty. That's just plain ludicrous."

You covered all the points! Well done! Circumcision goes beyond stupidity; to do it in order to "look like daddy" is narcissism at its worst. A circumcised four-year-old and his circumcised father will still not look the same, and it's only the father who would care anyway. My three sons are intact and loving it--and so am I!!!
