| Dr_Steph's Full Review: Graco Duo Rider |
We decided we needed a double stroller when I was pregnant with our second child and our son was under age 2. We considered both front/back and side-by-side double strollers and settled on the later one. It was very important to me that the stroller have a generous sun visor, that the seats both recline, and that it have a good sized basket for groceries, etc. The Duo Rider met all of these requirements.
One of the first things I noticed when we went to use our new Duo Rider is that it was tricky to get the kids into the seats. The bars in front of the seats can come off but not easily so we tried to slide the kids in over them. That worked OK for the baby but it was difficult for the toddler and has only become more difficult as he has gotten larger. I then found that the straps to hold in the baby were extremely difficult to adjust. In fact, we have given up trying to adjust them and therefore the kids have to use waist straps that are either too tight or too loose.
We also realized that this stroller does not fit through many shop doors and, worst of all, does not fit through our front door! That meant that we couldn't just wheel the stroller in the house when a child was sleeping but either had to leave them outside on the porch in the stroller or take them out and risk waking them up. It is also fairly hard to maneuver over curbs or anything other than smooth concrete, especially with heavy toddlers.
The Duo Rider isn't without some assets, namely the sun visor, reclining seats, and a very generous basket underneath. I think the kids both have a better view from this stroller than they would from a front/back seat design. However, these advantages don't outweigh the disadvantages. Finally, I had the one of the wheels fall off the stroller when I was blocks from home with two fussy toddlers. If I hadn't had a friend with me who could help me carry the kids I would have been in big trouble.
We now have a third baby and have only used the Duo Rider a couple of times. We much prefer using our double jog stroller from Baby Trends or a single stroller/carriage for him when he was newborn.
