Make 'em work for it!
Jan 26 '00
I have a BALL with my son's birthdays.
I make up cards with clues that rhyme. A sample?
In the room where you sleep,
under some pink,
you'll find a great gift,
that will sure make you think.
It will be a puzzle, or a book that I know will give him hours of fun thinking. Sometimes there is a clue to the gift, sometimes just to the location.
Corny, not ever gonna get me famous. But VERY fun. For both of us. Taped to the gift is clue #2. Then to that gift, clue #3, etc.
I arrange the gifts in cool/cooler/coolest order, so the last one is the most fun. And I make the clues harder, too.
It makes the fun last longer--for both of us! Rather than sitting around a table and opening one gift after another, I have the fun of seeing his eyes light up as he figures out a clue. I get a good giggle watching him slowly lose his mind when he can't figure one out.
I really recommend making the fun last as long as possible--stretches the budget, as well as the enjoyment for all.
