Family Bed Addict!
Jan 26 '00
When I was pregnant with my first son, I had read about family bedding and thought we might decide to do that, but were not sure yet. Then my son was born and he had some health problems and spent the first two weeks of his life in the hospital. That period it felt to us like he was very distant, more the hospital's baby than our baby. So when he finally got home, we wanted him as close as possible, took him in our bed and never have looked back!
When I was pregnant with my 2nd kid, we didn't buy a new crib, but got a bigger bed instead, so we would have room for another kid :-) A few years later, kid #3 joined us in our bed. It really works for our family. It is so easy at night to just roll over and nurse instead of having to get up. Of course, 3 kids was very cozy, but also sometimes kind of hard to roll over at night :-)
Number of kids in our bed went up and down a few times, at the moment we sleep with only the baby, although at least one toddler often joins us at night. I can recommend it to any one who wants to sleep at night instead of having to get up to take care of kids.
It is great when we go on vacation, since baby is used to sleeping with us and will sleep anywhere as long as one of us is near.
About the sex? We just do it in different places, kitchen, living room, guest bed, the deck, we have learned to be creative. Somehow doing it in our bed seems kind of boring. Of course, there are the times when the kids are watching a video downstairs and we do use our bed, hoping that nobody's snuggle radar will pick it up :-)
