A party game for guaranteed giggles!

Are you looking for a party activity to entertain those youngsters? How about something that is easy, free and only requires a piece of paper and a pencil? This game will get them laughing, for sure. The game consists of filling in blanks to get a customized story, but with a twist…the kids won’t know the story ahead of time.
Before the party, write up a story. Don’t get too complex with it, because the real value in the story will be the funny sentences that will be created. Leave blanks here and there in the story where you would usually put a noun, adjective, number, etc.
On party day, have the kids sit down and listen closely. You will go around the room, in order, asking them to supply the missing words. Do not tell them the story or read any part of it. The fun comes from them NOT knowing what it is about.
For example, if you needed a noun in blank 1, ask Hailey to name one. Ashley can give the answer for blank 2, and so on around the room until all blanks are filled. I like to have a long enough story that each child will get to answer at least four or five blanks, unless you have a tremendous amount of kids there. When asking them to name a noun or adjective, you’ll have to ask in more basic terms like a person, place or thing for a noun, or a “describing” word instead of adjective. Keep it on their level. Stories that throw in lots of colors and numbers are easy for the younger set.
When your story is all done, it’s time to read it back to the children. I guarantee they will be giggling and, chances are, you will be, too! Read it slowly so they all get a chance to hear it and get the giggles out before you go to the next sentence. When you are done, you have a custom story.
To see how this works, here is an example. The story could be:
Jennifer was looking forward to her party. She was going to be ___(number) years old. Her mom woke up early to bake the cake. She used her special recipe with extra ________ (food) added in. She mixed it up well and baked it in the ________ (appliance) for _________ (number) minutes at ________(number) degrees.
Jennifer looked out the window and saw ___________ (name of a party guest) arriving with her mother. Her mother dropped her off in a ________ (color) ________________ (vehicle.) _________________ (another party guest) showed up wearing only his ______________ (article of clothing).
This could turn out to be something like:
Jennifer was looking forward to her party. She was going to be 93 years old. Her mom woke up early to bake the cake. She used her special recipe with extra pork chops added in. She mixed it up well and baked it in the washing machine for 3 minutes at 87 degrees.
Jennifer looked out the window and saw Katie arriving with her mother. Her mother dropped her off in a purple helicopter. Trevor showed up wearing only his socks.
You get the picture. They’ll be giggling when they hear the story they have created. Make sure to leave enough blanks so each of their names can be used at least once in the story. I found out that they especially like hearing the sentences that mention their names in it.
You can also create one of these stories and send it to school with your child with his or her birthday treats so the whole class can do this during treat time, if the teacher doesn't mind.
Have fun and be as silly as possible!
