breastfeeding/in retrospect
Jan 23 '00
I breastfed all three of my children, albeit a "few," years ago.
My oldest boy just turned 21, his sister 19 and my "baby" 15. All three were nursed according to their needs, and the needs of mom and the family at that particular stage in our lives. I thought that maybe I could offer some help and advise to you new mothers debating the mothers milk/formula issue.
I knew from the start that breast feeding was what I wanted to do for my children but it wasn't easy and in retrospect some 20 something years later I can honestly say it was well worth it.
All three children have wonderful, healthy eating habits and life styles. I do directly attribute this to breastfeeding and strong mother/child bonding it caused the first months of their precious lives.
The boy is strong and lean and a lovely person who really cares about his mom and family and the planet. The girls are both tall, lean and have adopted a vegetarian life style. I am not saying that by merely nursing your child she/he will become a healthy well rounded, happy and healthy adult, rather I'm saying it can and does HELP them to be. If you can breastfeed than please do it.
All these years later I can still almost feel and smell and hear my new babies being nourished from my breast. Time has a way of creeping up on us ever so quickly, savor these moments in time. Make the time to do this for yourself and your child if at all possible.
Although my children, now young adults probably don't remember these enchanting times they have most definitely benefited from them.
