The Remote for childrenSep 23, 2000 Write an essay on this topic.More children have control over the remote than adults these days. I for one am a firm believer in saying NO to certain Tv shows and songs on the radio. FACT: I let my 4yr old son watch Power Rangers,Beast Wars,Digimon ect. I saw his behavior become very aggressive. He started hitting his sister,me or anybody he got mad at with whatever he had in his hand at the time. So I heard about the deal with violence and Tv, and decided to see if that was it. Fact: When I stopped letting him watch these shows and all shows with fighting and things dealing with hitting and fighting, In about 5 weeks I show a vast improvement in his attitude. Trial: I said ok lets see what happens if I let him watch it again. boy, was I crazy. 2 days is all it took for him to start running,jumping,karate chopping,kicking and hitting us again. Needless to say I was convinced. We no longer watch any cartoons with violent or negative behavior. I burned all Ninja turtle,PowerRanger,ect. Tapes and I let him help me do it. I explained to him why and how he was a good and wonderful person who did not need to hit people or watch shows that taught little kids to hit. I hope someone will read this and try it. I know it works. A friend of mine took her 8 yr old sons Pokeman stuff from him because ever time he would play the gameboy or read his cards he became very hateful and disrespectful to her and his little brother. I am very proud to say my son made a wonderful choice the other day in town. I ask where he wanted to eat and he said "Momma do BurgerKing have those evil fighting toys that make little boys hurt people?" I said "yes son I am afraid so". He said "then I don't want to go there". I was so proud of him. I told him son you have made me so happy you are a very big boy and you made a good decision. He was smiling from ear to ear. Parents I beg of you stop letting our kids watch this mess the media and producers are getting rich off of. I have 6 kids who do not watch R rated movies or shows and I have one 13 yr old who I watch the pg 13 movies to see if I think she should watch them to. Yes, she gets mad but thats tough! Love is making sure your child is taught right from wrong and moral values. If you are to busy to teach them let grandma do it, not some teenage girl who stays on the phone the whole time she is at your house or watching Jerry Springer with your child. Violence can be kept from your kids. YOU just have to take the time to know where they are at,who they are with and what they are watching on tv.  |
