The recipe for a great party bag.
1. Pick a good quality gift bag, with an appropriate theme. The cheap bags look cheap, and don't hold up under the stress of all those little (or big) prying hands.
2. Buy or make some really nice name labels and attach one to the front of each bag, and when handing them out, pass around colored sharpie pens so they can write their own name on the labels.
3. Go to the dollar stores or local drug store and buy "nicer" treats to put in the bags. If it is all junk they won't keep it long enough to care, and you will have just wasted your money. Even junk costs a lot when it has anything to do with a birthday theme.
4. Pick ONE really nice item to put in each bag. With all the dollars stores around now, you can get one really memorable item in each bag. ie: I put a beanie baby size stuffed whale in each bag, for my daughters "under the water" theme 8th birthday party. The kids went go nuts! :)
5. I have always given the bags out while my daughter(s) are opening her gifts, so the guest feel included.
Here are some of the items I have put in my bags in the past, and they will surely use them either at home or school.:
Suckers, assorted good quality candies, pencils, erasers, pens, tablets of paper, stickers, tatoos, bookmarks, coupons for happy meals and ice cream, small stuffed animals, sunglasses, magnets, paddle ball sets, silly straws, crazy string, photo key chains, gift certificates, nail polish, nail files, cuticle removers, lotions, bath oil/beads, hair clips/scrunchies, brushes, rings/jewelry, the new golden dollars, trial size perfume, etc.
I generally spend about $5-10.00 per bag, but with a bag like that there is no need for game prizes. Now the kids just have fun playing games and know that they are in for a big treat at gift bag time.
