Brother, Uncle, or "Bruncle"???

Sep 28 '00

Ok, you're probably thinking, what's this got to do with adoption?? Well, let me tell you, it has A LOT to do with adoption! Biologically, Eric is nothing to me at all. Legally, he isn't anything to me at all either, because I was adopted out of the family. He was adopted into my biological family, by my birth-grandmother and step-grandpa. Technically, this makes him my Dad's brother, and MY uncle. The term "bruncle" comes from a combo of brother and uncle.

So why do I call him my brother then?? Well, his mother and father (my bgrandma and stepgrandpa) raised me for 2years, before I was taken from my birthdad. Eric is only 5years older than I am, and he's always thought of me as his little sister. Him and I have been "reunited" since July 5, 2000, and we'll have our first face to face reunion, in 2 short weeks!! (October 12, 2000) We are both VERY excited!

He is the big brother I never had in my life. Even my adoptive brothers were never like he is with me. (granted, they are 9 and 12years older than I am, so maybe that has something to do with it). Him and I talk about EVERYTHING.. he's literally, my best friend! We complain about our spouses to each other, we brag about our kids, and we just have a lot of fun talking to each other and writing email back and forth all day.

Eric and I were meant to have stayed together, but between my grandmother (his adoptive mom) getting sick, my birthmom being the witch she was, and Eric's adoptive dad (my stepgranddad) being the jerk he was, we weren't. The way things were supposed to work out was, I would be living with my birthdad, and Eric would have been too.

One of the most amazing things to me is, even though it was so long ago (20 years ago) that I've last seen my brother, he still thought about me all the time, and thought enough of me, to name his 2nd daughter after me!! (big proud Aunt Jen smiles!) Talk about an honor!!! I cried so much when I was told that. Sadly though, since I was so young (not quite 3years old) I don't remember my brother, but we've assured each other, we've got lots of time to make new memories now, and we reassure each other that we're always there.

Strangely enough, we're so much alike. Had similar childhoods, similar interests (kinda), and we are both VERY insecure. We even kind of look alike, strange huh??? But we're both happy now that we're back together now and I can't wait to see him, his wife, and their 2 girls!

Love you lots big brother of mine!!!

Love
Sissy
