Hawaiian "Luau" party theme
Apr 23 '00
Luau's are really fun for kids or teens birthday parties as well as for summer family parties. For my daughters birthday party I really wanted to do something unique or at least different from the norm. Finally, after about a week, I thought why not a luau...
Keeping with the Hawaiian theme, I wanted everything Hawaiian and tropical.
1. Plan Guest list
2. Decorations: Anything tropical, Palm tree's, Hula dancers, fish,
(card board...of course), tiki torches, fish net, sea shells.
Table decoration: Coconuts, pineapples, various fresh exotic flowers
3. What to wear: Hawaiian shirts, dresses or similar (preferably
something tropical or flora), grass-skirts are fun for the girls.
4. What to serve: For the cake, I serve either Pineapple-up-side down
cake or Coconut cake.
Fruit kabobs, or serve fruit in a carved watermelon, teriyaki
chicken or beef, sweet and sour pork, chicken long rice, Hawaiian
bread, Hawaiian sweet potato, various salads, haupia (coconut
pudding), banana bread, Hawaiian or tropical fruit punch. I try to
stay with the Hawaiian luau foods. However, kids are finicky
so you may want to have backup items such as hot dogs, chips, baked
beans, etc.
5. Entertainment: Hawaiian music, hula dance contest, or have hula dance lessons, "lei making" contest, pinata's are always fun.
Don't forget to greet your guest with "Lei's.
