Two lines means Pregnant

Written: Mar 23 '00
Pros:easy to use, easy to read results
Cons:none

I used the Equate Pregnancy Test several times before I got the positive result that I was looking for. The reason that I chose the Equate test was the price. Compared to the other tests on the market, I found that the Equate was the cheapest. (I did compare it to other store brands.) The Equate Pregnancy Test is a WalMart brand. I shop there frequently so it was also convenient for me to pick this up when I thought I needed to.

I wasn't sure about it's accuracy but when I asked my OB, she told me that it was just as reliable as any of the other stick tests on the market so I trusted it. The package claims that it is 99% accurate and my OB agreed with this claim. There was one time that I doubted the test results. I was sure that I was pregnant and it gave me a negative result which actually turned out to be correct based on blood test that I had to be sure. In my many uses of the Equate Pregnancy test, it was never wrong.

This test is very easy to use. You either urinate on the end of the stick or, if your are like me and think you might miss, you can put the urine into a clean cup and stick the end of the stick into it. There is a "splash guard" so that when you urinate on the stick, it won't accidently splash onto the test area, however, I felt more comfortable using a cup. Either way, once the end of the stick is saturated, you replace the cap and lay the stick down flat. There are two windows and you can almost immediately see the first line show up. That says that the test is working. If you are pregnant, you could know in as little as one minute when the second line shows up. To be sure, you are supposed to wait 10 minutes to see if the second line shows up because if there is even a small amount of the hormone it is testing for in the urine, it may take longer.

The second line may not be as bright as the first line. This is okay, it is still a positive result. You will definitely know if it is there or not. My second line was not as bright but it was definitely there. It just means that there is probably a smaller amount of the hormone in your urine. This could be for two reasons: either it is not the first urine of the morning (it doesn't have to be) or else you are in the very earliest stages of pregnancy.

Though I was disappointed every time I got a negative result, I was glad to know that the test was trustworthy. When I finally got the second line to show up, there was no doubt that it was there. I've heard that with some tests, you are not totally sure. This was not the case with the Equate test. When it was positive, it was definitely positive!! And, I was so happy to see that second line appear!!!

I felt that it was important to find out right away that I was pregnant or not and I certainly could not make an appointment with my doctor each month that I was late (which was just about every month). I wanted to know so that I could take the best care of myself for the unborn baby's sake. And, though she was premature, I must have done something right, because she was born very healthy (just early).

If the test shows that you are pregnant, you should still make an appointment with your doctor to confirm the result. Most likely the result will be correct and you will be able to get started immediately with prenatal care.

I would not hesitate to use this test again in the future. I would recommend it to anyone wishing to use a pregnancy test.
