We visited the Midland the day after Christmas and had a very nice stay. The hotel is going through some renovation, but the only sign of that was in the elevator area. We had a great rate ($89) and when we checked in, the gentleman at the front desk said he was upgrading us to one of the newly renovated rooms in the tower.
The room was beautiful! It was decorated in an art deco/minimalist way that was very attractive. The room had a king sized bed, 2 telephones, large new TV, small fridge, and a CD clock radio. It was a very spacious room with a large attractive bathroom. We were very pleased.
Our window looked out on a courtyard, and all we could see were other windows--some were offices.
During our stay, we never heard any noise from the hallway or another room. Occasionally, we could hear the whir of an el train, but it wasn't anything that bothered us.
Sometime in 2001, the hotel is going to be renamed the W City Center. I would imagine that the rates will go up along with the name change. Until then, I very highly recommend the Midland.
