This is a hotel that I have visited many times, however I have never actually stayed here. The reason that I have not stayed here is not because it is not nice, but we always have a large group, so we stay in condos. In fact, this hotel is gorgeous. I have been inside one of the rooms before and they are very nice.
Inn of the Mountain Gods is a great hotel that is on the Mescalero Apache Indian Reservation. I go to Ruidoso, New Mexico every year and always head over to Inn of the Mountain Gods for the casino. It is a great casino and I have done pretty well there over the years. The reservation is just a short drive from the town of Ruidoso. It is about 10 minutes from the main street in Ruidoso.
They call it Casino Apache and offer blackjack, poker, craps, and all of the popular slot machines. The casino is open 24 hours with the exception of the table games, these are open from 10am to 2am. My game is blackjack, however I have done quite well on their slots. They seem to pay out pretty well. In fact, a friend that went won a $1200 jackpot on the quarter machines.
However, if you are not a gambler, you will find much more to do. The drive to it is beautiful. After you turn off the main street in Ruidoso, you drive thru the mountains and forests. Then when you reach the hotel it is breathtaking, because you are up some and look down at a gorgeous lake. It is always sparkling blue and looks so inviting. They offer several activities on the lake, however I have never done any. The fishing is supposed to be great.
If you are a golfer then you are in for a treat. They have a very nice golf course. I am not a golfer, so I have never played there, but it does look very well kept. I am just guessing, but it does look challenging. Like I said, I am not a golfer, so I am just going by what I see! The golf course with the lake behind it is a breathtaking sight!
Now for the hotel, I did check on the prices of the rooms. One year that we went, we had thought about renting a room. One of the families had a small child, so they had thought about just getting a room to use for a few hours. We ended up not needing one, because someone in the group did not go to the casino, so they babysat. However, the rooms were fairly reasonable at around $90 a night. This was around Spring Break, so everything is much higher at this time. I had mentioned earlier that I had been in one of the rooms. They seemed to be clean and spacious enough. They contained the basic amenities. You could have a beautiful view if you are lucky enough to get a room facing the lake. I am sure that watching the sunrise on the lake would be spectacular!
Like I said earlier, we always have a large group. We stay in some condos in town. My family goes along with some friends, who are basically like family. There are usually around 20, so staying at Inn of the Mountain Gods is basically out of the question, so I have to be content with just visiting. The whole complex is just so neat. It is down in a valley, surrounded by mountains and lots of trees.
The hotel is made up of several buildings. I guess it is more of a lodge than a hotel. It is two stories tall in most places. As you enter the main entrance you come into a very large lobby. They have entertainment going on in the bar off of the lobby. It is a nice place to sit and have a drink and relax by the fireplace. They also offer a buffet, which is located near the casino. I have eaten it once, but was not very impressed with it. It tasted like frozen dinners. I had heard that it was good, so maybe I visited it on a bad night.
You can enter the casino from the main lobby or from the outside. It is kind of a hassle to get to from the lobby, so I prefer the outside entrance. The first year that I went the slots were in a separate area from the table games. You had to work your way thru the hotel and then thru several buildings. They were all linked together, but was a big-time maze. That has been changed; they are all together now.
If you are ever in Ruidoso and have never been to Inn of the Mountain Gods, I would highly recommend you stopping in and checking it out. Whether, you are a gambler, fisherman, golfer or just want to check out the view, you will not be sorry!!
