| VLenard's Full Review: Golf Magazine |
My father has been subscribing to this magazine for years. I am a fairly new golfer and this magazine has helped. Even though this magazine is generally for males, I still read it. As long as my father picks up the tab.
The Good
My favorite writer is Robert Baker. He is a great writer with tons of great advice. So all in all, he's a great person.
The best article featured in all the issues is Private Lessons. Different lessons on how to improve your swing and get a better handicap. In the April 2000 issue, Private Lesson featured Swing Hard, Not Stupid; Putting Emergencies; Major Steps, Minor Changes; Length=Weight; and Keep Wedges at 90 percent. All have improved my handicap when I tried them
The best article that is NOT a regular is : The Best Golf Jokes. I'm the person that laughs at all of them. My favorite joke in this article was, "Two golfers are in the middle of their round when a funeral procession drives by on a road next to the course. One of the golfers stops, removes his hat, puts it over his heart, and bows his head. After the procession has passed, his buddy says, 'That was a very nice thing to do. Most people wouldn't have bothered.' The other man replies, 'It's the least I can do. We were married for 40 years.'"
The Bad
Well, I'm not one to complain... Actually, I am. This magazine is about 220 pages each month. About half of it is advertisements. Half of those advertisements just have a golf ball. Can we say BORING? Also, there is a bunch of loose "Subscribe to ME!" cards.
Article wise, I did not enjoy the Stabilize Your Swing article in the April 2000 issue. First of all, you are on a big ball..how is that going to stabilize your swing? I have to admit bouncing on the ball does look fun. (Bringing out the kid in me.) Next, one of the exercises is doing crunches on a ball. It claims it is for "Rotational Power." Can't you just do crunches on carpet?
Why This Magazine Beats The Rest
This magazine is what every golfer needs. This is THE Golf Magazine because it's like no other. It's funny and serious in one magazine. Compared to others, this is the one to buy. Want to know the best way to hit bunker shots? Golf Magazine will tell you. It's Golf Magazine, no fancy title. It doesn't need a fancy title, it says what it is and it is what it says.
To Sum It All Up
If you are to subscribe, get the 36 issue deal. You save 72% off the cover price. That is a lot of money you save. Golf Magazine is a wonderful magazine. In this magazine you learn to love golf. (Maybe..) Well, you learn in this magazine and you laugh. So that counts. As someone once said, "Learn it, live it, love it." Golf in six words.
