eBay Update

As many of you know, on Aug 30, Shopping.com and Epinions officially became a part of eBay, Inc. This is a great win for us because eBay understands community. They understand that the strength in community lies with its members. eBay sees Epinions as a strong asset and does not want to change the community values that Epinions members have created. Epinions will stay Epinions. eBay will remain eBay. Whenever possible we will look for smart ways share the best of each site with the other.

We wanted to give you a heads up about a new service on eBay that will be announced in a few days. eBay will be launching a new feature for its community to write reviews and guides. As you might suspect, this is a project that was in the works long before the acquisition of Shopping.com and Epinions were conceived. The eBay review and guides service is designed specifically for the eBay community to share their expertise on products and other related topics. These reviews will be collected and displayed on eBay. There are no plans to integrate these reviews onto the Epinions website. However, we are already at work to display Epinions reviews on eBay to further augment eBay’s own offering. As we have done in the past with Shopping.com and Half, we will track and report all eBay pageviews in member accounts.

As you know, we will be wrapping up the product catalog integration effort in the next few months. The completion of this effort will allow us to refocus our efforts on some exciting new directions for Epinions. We believe we have only begun to scratch the surface of what this powerful platform and community is capable of producing.

Category Lead Steps Down

Seattle Meet And Greet Wrap Up

It was just over two years ago that Epinions members first gathered in Orlando, Florida sitting at a round table chatting with Epinions employees Alexis Johnson and Garrett Gonzales. On September 10, 2005, the 9th Epinions Meet and Greet took place in Seattle, Washington. Members joined together at the Gordon Biersch Restaurant Brewery to meet with each other as well as Epinions staff. They also took home special Seattle Meet and Greet coffee mugs and those loveable Epi guys. Thanks to everyone who attended.

eBay Acquisition

Yesterday we announced that Shopping.com (parent company of Epinions.com) has signed a definitive agreement to be acquired by eBay, World's Online Marketplace® for the sale of goods and services by a diverse community of individuals and small businesses. The deal is subject to standard closing conditions including shareholder approvals.

We are very excited about this news and wanted to share it with you as soon as we could. You can read the official press release here.

We know that you will have questions about the deal. Unfortunately, the acquisition process prevents us from having much external communication including chats until the deal closes. For now, we have prepared a document that hopefully addresses many of your important questions. You can find this FAQ here. As soon as the deal closes, we will hold a chat to answer more of your questions. We expect the deal to close in October 2005.

As you can imagine, there is plenty of work ahead of us. However, we are extremely excited about this opportunity and look forward to sharing more details with you as soon as we can.

MPR/MPA Yearly Lists

The yearly lists are sorted based on the date the review was written, not which date/dates the page views were received.

Account Settings Change

You will notice a small change was made to the Edit Public Profile and Update Member Info pages earlier today. Two things changed:

• Your redemption mailing address and name can now be seen and edited from the Update Member Info page as well as the Redemption page. In the past, they were only viewed and edited on the Redemption page. Rest assured, this information is still for your eyes only, it can not be viewed by other members.
• All information which is displayed on your Public Profile is now editable from the Edit Public Profile page. In the past, the First Name and Last Name which were displayed on your Public Profile were editable from the Update Member Info page.

As part of the program, anyone who signs up on Shopping.com will also receive an Epinions.com account. Also, if you have a current Epinions member ID, you will automatically be registered on Shopping.com.

As a member of Shopping.com, you can subscribe to receive e-mail updates on new features and improvements. Shopping.com is planning on launching new shopping features and this gives us a way to communicate much easier with shoppers. Merchant Surveys

In July of last year, we launched Merchant Surveys. Since the introduction of Merchant Surveys, we've made a few changes. Here are those changes and they will go live soon.

• Merchant Surveys will no longer be Express reviews. They will have their own identity.
• On review pages for Online Stores and Services, Merchant Surveys will be in a separate table below Reviews.
• Unrated Merchant Surveys will now be available to the logged out community as there are so many of them that we can't expect them all to be rated.
• Merchant Surveys will have their own space in the "Read new reviews" section (Just In). You'll be able to find this new space linked in the "Read new reviews" section in Online Stores and Services.

We hope these are changes that you will find useful.

This month, we're hosting the Before and After Valentine's Day Write-Off. The concept has two parts. First, from February 9th until February 15th, the focus of your submissions should be on products or services that you either have given someone in the past, or would give someone this year for Valentine's Day. From February 16th through February 29th, the reviews should focus on products or services that you have received in the past or that you will have received for this upcoming Valentine's Day. Flowers

There are going to be few changes in Flowers. These changes are related to the product integration project, which combines the Epinions.com and Shopping.com product catalogs, and are not permanent. For now in Flowers:

• You will not be able to submit product reviews
• Current reviews will only be accessible on profile pages
• Flower listings will not be available in search

These changes should take place in the near future. However, the goal is to eventually have everything reviewable, and we expect the category to function like normal towards the end of the year.
