End of 2004 Bonus

As we’re winding down the year at Epinions, we would like to extend a huge Thank You to all of our members who continue to make the site what it is. In 2004, over 50,000 new writers joined Epinions and over 150,000 new reviews were written for products on the site. Your reviews helped millions of shoppers make better buying decisions. All and all, it has been a great year!
As a token of our appreciation, we are giving an end of year bonus to all of our members. First, for all members, we anticipate a strong Income Share distribution for the month of December. As always, Income Share will be distributed in the first half of January 2005. Keep an eye out for it. Second, if you are a current Advisor, Moderator or Category Lead, we will be giving an additional bonus that will show up separately from your normal Income Share. - Moderators will receive $25.
- Advisors will receive $75.
- Category Leads will receive $100.
We hope the bonuses will aid in spreading some post holiday cheer to your pocketbook (or at least help with holiday bills).
As for Top Reviewers, we’ve done something a little different this year. In lieu of cash, we’ve sent holiday gifts. The gifts we’ve sent are popular products with shoppers but that have few or no reviews on Epinions. We hope the Top Reviewers enjoy their gifts and we anticipate gaining some new reviews in the process :-).

Chicago Meet And Greet Wrap Up

The Chicago Meet and Greet was outstanding. Here are some highlights:
- Members and staff sang Happy Birthday to Epinions as Epinions is now five years old
- Three CL's (Lambchops, Openroad, and Scmrak) attended
- KristinaFH made her fifth Meet and Greet
- Other return Meet and Greeters included Drdevience (third) and Speeddemon531 (third)
- A certain someone modeled an Epinions towel in only his boxers and Epinions has tried to destroy all evidence of these pictures
- There were whispers about a possible International Meet and Greet

Epinions Message Boards Beta Launch

As we mentioned at the last Epinions Member Chat, we rolled out a preview version of the Epinions Message Boards to Advisors, Top Reviewers, and Category Leads in May. We are now ready to open up a few sections to everyone. The Bugs, Help, and Announcements sections are now live to the general membership with more forums to come in the near future. DrDevience, iluvbirds, and krissieliz will be moderating those forums.

MPR/MPA Yearly Lists

The Most Popular Reviews and Most Popular Authorslists have been updated to include links that sort the lists by year. This gives members the ability to see their progress and also gives the site some historical perspective.
The yearly lists are sorted based on the date the review was written, not which date/dates the page views were received.
Boston Meet And Greet Wrap Up

We had a great time at the Boston Epinions Meet and Greet. Here are some highlights:
- Randy Stewart was introduced as the new Epinions Community Product Manager (Alexis Johnson has transitioned into a new role, but is still helping out with the community when needed)
- A demonstration of the upcoming Epinions Message Board was shown
- KristinaFH made her fourth Meet and Greet
- Volition45 made her third Meet and Greet
- Aashok broke the record for most pictures taken at the Meet and Greet, by beating his own record from the New York Meet and Greet
- Tattoos were compared for the first time at a Meet and Greet
Aashok and Paul Howe took pictures of the event that you can now observe.
Lastly, if you were there, you can write a review of the entire event.
Account Settings Change

You will notice a small change was made to the Edit Public Profile and Update Member Info pages earlier today. Two things changed: - Your redemption mailing address and name can now be seen and edited from the Update Member Info page as well as the Redemption page. In the past, they were only viewed and edited on the Redemption page. Rest assured, this information is still for your eyes only, it can not be viewed by other members.
- All information which is displayed on your Public Profile is now editable from the Edit Public Profile page. In the past, the First Name and Last Name which were displayed on your Public Profile were editable from the Update Member Info page.
These changes were made to be more clear about what information is displayed to the public as well as to faciliate the integration of the Epinions and Shopping.com member information.

I am sad to announce that I have left Shopping.com. I care very deeply about the Epinions community and am extremely proud of all that we have accomplished together over the last five years. However, it is now time for me to move on to the next challenge.

As part of the program, anyone who signs up on Shopping.com will also receive an Epinions.com account. Also, if you have a current Epinions member ID, you will automatically be registered on Shopping.com.
As a member of Shopping.com, you can subscribe to receive e-mail updates on new features and improvements. Shopping.com is planning on launching new shopping features and this gives us a way to communicate much easier with shoppers. Please note: Epinions members will not receive the Shopping.com newsletter unless they request it via their Shopping.com account.

New Compare Prices Page

We are making the Compare Prices page easier for shoppers to use. As part of the changes, we have created three new store designations; Featured Stores, Trusted Stores, and the Smart Buy. Stores in each of these categories will get graphics labeling them as such. Featured Stores will consist of merchants who pay for top placement. Trusted Stores are merchants who: - Consistently receive positive customer ratings and reviews on Epinions.
- Provide accurate price and shipping information.
- Honor prices listed on their site without excuses.
Finally, the Smart Buy designation is the lowest available price from a Trusted Store. Most importantly, merchants cannot buy the Trusted Store or Smart Buy seal. We hope that this adds up to better user experience on our site.
These features will launch around the end of April.

Merchant Surveys

In July of last year, we launched Merchant Surveys. Since the introduction of Merchant Surveys, we've made a few changes. Here are those changes and they will go live soon. - Merchant Surveys will no longer be Express reviews. They will have their own identity.
- On review pages for Online Stores and Services, Merchant Surveys will be in a separate table below Reviews.
- Unrated Merchant Surveys will now be available to the logged out community as there are so many of them that we can't expect them all to be rated.
- Merchant Surveys will have their own space in the "Read new reviews" section (Just In). You'll be able to find this new space linked in the "Read new reviews" section in Online Stores and Services.
We hope these are changes that you will find useful.
Epinions.com Read Only Time on Thursday, March 4th

On March 4, 2004, we will be in read only mode from 10:00 AM - 5:00 PM PST. Members will not be able to submit reviews, rate, trust, leave comments, redeem, or edit their profiles during the scheduled maintenance. We are sorry for the inconvenience.
We are in the process of moving our site hosting location in order to support more traffic. This should also ensure that the site is more reliable with less read only time in the future.

Flowers

There are going to be few changes in Flowers. These changes are related to the product integration project, which combines the Epinions.com and Shopping.com product catalogs, and are not permanent. For now in Flowers: - You will not be able to submit product reviews
- Current reviews will only be accessible on profile pages
- Flower listings will not be available in search
These changes should take place in the near future. However, the goal is to eventually have everything reviewable, and we expect the category to function like normal towards the end of the year.

Epinions.com Before and After Valentine's Day Write-Off

Our First Review Write-Off was a success. We received over 400 entries. The winners will be announced very soon. But before we announce the winners to our First Review Write-Off, we have a second write-off to introduce.
This month, we're hosting the Before and After Valentine's Day Write-Off. The concept has two parts. First, from February 9th until February 15th, the focus of your submissions should be on products or services that you either have given someone in the past, or would give someone this year for Valentine's Day. From February 16th through February 29th, the reviews should focus on products or services that you have received in the past or that you will have received for this upcoming Valentine's Day. In order to enter the write-off, you have to first register your review. Also, everyone has to agree to the Write-Off rules. The prizes for the Before and After Valentine's Day Write-Off are as follows:
- First Prize: A $75 gift certificate to RedEnvelope, plus a set of Epi dolls and an Epinions hat
- Second Prize: A $25 gift certificate to RedEnvelope, plus a set of Epi dolls and an Epinions hat
- Third Prize: A set of Epi dolls and an Epinions hat
We're hopeful that we can do many more of these this year.
