Why calling is important

An interesting thing just happened to me. We went to an awful restaurant this summer in Nashville, TN called The Nashville Palace. I started the review:

On a Monday evening we went to The Nashville Palace for dinner. Have you ever read something about a product or restaurant and wondered if you were using that product or eating at the right place? That is how I felt when I went to ask for this restaurant to be added to the database. I went to the website http://www.musicvalleyattractions.com/newpages/nashvillepalace.htm and could not believe this is where we had been. I made sure the address was the same. The menu is online so I compared it to the one I have. It looks and sounds wonderful online. My experience was quite different.

It may be that the restaurant that was started in 1974 to combine country music (George Jones and Garth Brooks we are told have performed here.) with great food has gone downhill a bit.

and then decided I would call to find out their hours. I wondered why when I clicked on the events link there were none listed but I thought it a computer gliche. THIS restaurant CLOSED last night for Good!! Can you imagine? I would have written a review about a restaurant that doesn't exist never mind the time I would have put in. So I guess it never hurts to make that call unless you've been there within the month. jo

Similar Experiences.....

I have had similar experiences. I was all set to write a review of West24 in Washington. I had visited the previous week, but when I got there, a sign was posted on the door, saying it had closed permanently. Too bad I had just had it added to the database. You just never know. Tom

Oh gosh, the previous week! I hope the Board of Health didn't close them considering you had just eaten there! jo

RE: Similar Experiences.....

I suppose the restaurant scene is one where the word "establishment" isn't always apropos. Many do come and go.

I had once written a full review with just the information that though I loved the place, it is no more. I don't feel that is really a good idea.

If I'm correct I remember Tom writing these announcements in Express reviews, now that we have them. I believe that's a good idea as a sort of public announcement to our readers.

I've also made phone calls to places when someone I do not know writes a review saying a place closed. I have in the comment section supported the information. I have never found somebody to say a place is closed that really wasn't, even so, I do check up on them on occasion.

Best yet would be the removal of closed restaurants from our database, but I don't believe this happens often if at all.
