Tom I was not replying to you, I was replying to someone who is desperately in need of funds and thought that perhaps writing on some other things while they get things worked out at Epinions might help him earn some needed cash while also getting entered into the contests.

.
True all that.

Forums tend to be open places ...subject to the postings of fools, mad dogs, and Englishmen.

The user in question is a smart and resourceful person. I am sure he has weighed all his epi-possibilities. It is telling that the one most prominent here fits the cut of his epi-cloth.

RE: Yowza....

Since I'm obviously not filling SAPs in books I'm having fun catching up on writing non-book reviews for items already in the database and on my wish list. I'm also catching up on reading and rating reviews and checking into the boards to see what everyone is saying. I might actually earn a bit more this month.

I'm just banging my head against the wall here. I've finally reviewed all of the stuff that I had backed up on my wish list (aka "to be reviewed" list) for months. With no SAPs being filled.... I like LITERALLY can't find anything to review. I've been searching the database and my house for an hour.

You're kidding! You can't find a book, a movie, a restaurant, a sticky pad, a nightlight, a universal remote control, a stapler, or a can of soup to review?

May not be the most exciting options out there, but hard to believe you can't find anything !

As for me, I can review a ton of non-firsties -- it's those firsties that trip me up.

Believe me... I looked and looked and looked. I'll attempt to write a review in any category if I have experience with a product.

I've looked and looked, tried to write 5 reviews on popular products. They are not featured products and they did not have "write a review" button to them. The last one I tried was Air Wick Aqua Mist and my computer just laughed at me and said "sucker". When all 5 products need SAP's it's not even worth the mere pennece for the value of the review.

RE: Yowza....

The last 8-9 books I've read have been completely unavailable in the database, and they were all brand new releases.

I've watched 2 movies so far today and searched both of them. One showed up 10 times and the other 14, but neither were reviewable. They only showed up as featured products or shopping links.

Same here.

Used to be able to pick up five, six, whatever number of books at the public welfare book store, bring 'em home, and find two or three, reviewable, in the database.

Not so much anymore.

Incredibly frustrating. Not sure how the site has allowed itself to 'evolve' to such a state. Mind boggling.

' who does not wanna hear 'this explanation' or 'that promise' . . .just fix the d4mn site (or the SAP process) already. '

When we've stopped automatically getting new releases in the database for two+ years and those items added to the database aren't searchable.

And I agree it's not a good state of affairs for any site that wants to be relevant. I'd rate any site NH where you can't find the current best sellers.

Extending 8 tentacles, latching on and not letting go :).

It would be great to get SAPS back, it makes Epinions more fun, and writing a first review, there is something special about it, regardless if its a contest month with those, or just because.

It also makes Epinions relevant. When I recently apologized to a publicist for not being able to add the book to the database, she laughed and said that she didn't know Epinions was still in business. I have heard the same thing and other negative comments from numerous others at all levels of publishing for years now. I have pointed this out in the past and been told to think big picture long term, that I didn't understand various issues, etc. at best and savagely attacked at worst.

I don't think the issue is my supposed inability to think long term big picture or anything else. When new stuff, no matter what the category, is not available here the site becomes irrelevant.

When this process is over will anyone out there care?

No matter what somebody here claims the only answer that matters is what the people out there do when things work right again.

RE: SAP Update

Kevin,

Complete agreement. It is about being relevant, about being a chameleon in changing times, while holding on to the values that matter. Such as E books. At first I was against them, now a fan, and they make books more accessible, and also have kept reading guaranteed. Epinions needs to realize that just like what you said, relevance is so important to keeping up. Books are still selling like hotcakes, or are read like them, and they are part of the economy.(Especially now with so many books, movies, and other merchandise connected at various levels)

I hope we have an answer soon, a solution to have new books and other items added. Also, at the same time I am saddened by how the Epinions travel section search engine is worse than it was before. Like you, I really love it here. Its home in many regards. Its comfortable, like a pair of jeans. Bumps are to be expected, no doubt. Yet the past month has been really frustrating, and I hope they can get through this process, as I'm sure their corporate folks are frustrated too.

Let's have a cheer for Epinions, but at the same time, keep it hopping in the right direction,

Mike

Sigh

I mostly review W & B products. I have an SAP in right now for a product that has no reviews. I get tons of hits when I have the first review published on new products.

Is anyone receiving sap's?

SAP/Item Listings

Will there ever be a way to add pictures when there isn't one for the item? I think it would make a big difference.

:-D

Thanks!

RE: Yowza....

I have about a zillion items I could review...it's just finding the time! Sure, sometimes it's constricting; but when I start looking, I usually find a couple dozen items that I bookmark.

:-D

Thank you

I have to admit that I was surprised to see that my SAP's actually came in today. I was almost certain it wouldn't work. So I apologize for whining, and

Thank you very much Christal

But which category does it show up as? You were trying to get some books added, right?
