RE: Nic--Ped Egg

Yes, I waited til today to use the Ped Egg a second time & I probably had close to that much fine shavings again! My feet are smoother than they've been in a long time. I've been applying Lamisil cream for about a week & even though I could tell the cream was helping, this has really given it that extra punch it needed. I have to say my feet/soles/heels have never looked or felt better for years!!

I've been looking forward to getting it and now I'm scared I'm going to cut up my feet! How do you use it?!

RE: Nic--Ped Egg

Just try slowly over one area that is thick & built up, you will see. It won't cut healthy skin, only what is callus. Be sure to read directions though. Do not use circular or side-to-side, only back & forth motion. It's really easy! Let us know of your results :)

growing out nail

Hi pink...I have the same problem and the same concern. My skin looks like it is higher than the nail that is growing but when I look at it carefully I can see that the nail that is now growing attached seems to be growing in just fine. Before I used the different meds the nail stopped growing in attached at this point. I'm just leaving mine alone for now and see how it does. My other problem is that the left side of the nail seems to grow more quickly than the right. Maybe the right took more of the weight from the log that fell on it. You're lucky that you didn't have trauma to the nail!

Just got home from a weekend soccer tournament and since it was right by Hershey Park the kids all had to have an afternoon there so I ended up in sneakers all weekend. I wanted to give my toes some protection from the crowds and hopefully the fact that they didn't see the light of day except in the hotel room won't cause any setbacks. Came home with lots of chocolate.

nail growing out

Mine too looks like one side might be growing faster than the other on that one toe.

I am really getting tired of this journey with the toenail drama. I know I just have to suck it up and stick with it but dang I miss my flip flops (in public anyway) :( At least with this med you can't cheat and paint them cause it wouldn't matter the nail if not gone is being disentigrated. I was sooooo tempted to go get those stick on toenails but I am not I am going on vacation with ugly toes :(

Hang in there, Pink!

You're doing great! We (all of us!) have to look at the big picture. And not be focused on one day (a wedding) or one week (a vacation). We have to look at our whole lives and think in terms of not only our vanity, but OUR HEALTH! I'm giving the pep talk to ALL OF US! We're doing well with our various regimens. Unfortunately, nails grow so slow, it's like watching grass grow... :)

RE: Hang in there, Pink!

Yeah, fungus growing on our bodies can't be healthy.

I feel lucky that it's just my nails that are messed up. My feet themselves are okay. When I was taking swimming in high school I got weird cracks that itched until they bled, between my toes. I'm happy that's gone, but I remember how horrible it was to be wet and have to get dressed anyway because I had to catch the bus. This is probably where I got the infection in the first place. Funny how horrible things can be traced back to high school.

One of my nails that used to have gunk under it, doesn't anymore. Now it's just raised, which many people have commented on. In this case I think it's not a bad thing. I mean, the gunk is gone now the meds can get under the nail better?

RE: Hang in there, Pink!

I'm soaking my feet at night in white vinegar and water then bleach and water, then putting on tea tree oil following with vapo-rub. Also putting tea tree oil on about two other times during the day. I don't wear shoes or socks at all while I'm at home. I recently started using Tineacide Shoe and Foot spray on my shoes and feet three times a week.

lol, it took me a whole paragraph to tell what I'm doing to my toes.

pep talk

Thanks for the pep talk spunky! I think we could all use one now and then. Last week I was getting very discouraged since it takes so long for the nail to grow and decided to look online for information about having the nail permanently removed but that idea quickly left me when I saw what people dealt with after the removal.Really don't want to go through that. This nail of mine would have to be causing a lot of pain before I would go through with that. I can handle the ugliness if I have to.

pinktoesorbust...are you just going to let the nail keep growing unevenly and trim it once it reaches the end or are you doing something now to keep it even as it grows? Is yours growing in completely attached? The first time mine didn't which is why I cut it back to where it was attached and now it seems the new growth is attached.

nail growing out

pinktoesorbust...are you trimming the part that is growing more quickly or just waiting until everything gets to the end of the toe? I had to trim a little on the left side because the top part of the nail was growing a little faster than the bottom. Now what I have is growing in attached. Seems like it will never end!

Thanks for the pep talk, Spunky! It was one of those days when I really needed to be reminded to look at the big picture rather than how long it takes for a big toe nail to grow. I went so far as to see if I would consider having the nail permanently removed but after looking at some websites I know I would rather battle this daily and hope for the best.

computer glitch

Sorry if my posts appear a couple of times. For some reason after my first post I saw it listed but when I went back later it was gone so I tried again. Not sure if this one will go through either but I wanted to see what would happen. Wonder where they went?

RE: computer glitch

Yeah, for some reason page 101 doesn't show up unless I go to the main General Wellness page and click on "last post." If I go back to page 100, 101 will disappear again!

Everyone-add this page to your favorites list and you can come right back to page 101. Going in the usual way, I also couldn't access past page 100.

Hi!

Did you guys see on Foxnews.com they have a video of a woman with toenail fungus (it's on the main page)? I watched it today while at work & it shows a woman who is seeing a foot doctor & the doctor is applying a topical treatment. Wonder what it is? But the video says the woman has been going for about 4-6 months & she's very happy with her results. Her toenails looked great I thought!
I think mine are getting better, ever so slowly. I think I just got disappointed thinking they'd be all cured within 6 months but now I'm thinking it takes closer to a year.
Also, I've been applying the FT twice/day & my nails were SO dry. Spunky's right to add something afterward for moisturizing & it makes it look way better.
We went away to a lake this weekend & my sister-in-law said she still thinks I'm crazy for wearing flip flops but I can't stand wearing closed shoes now because I keep thinking of the fungus growing more! She doesn't have it as bad as I do but she's very self conscience about it. I just want to be better!

Anyone see this?

There's an article on foxnews.com under the health section about toenail fungus. They also had a video of a woman who went to a foot surgeon & the surgeon was applying a topical ointment to her toenails (I'm wondering what it was) and this woman had been going to her for 4-6 months & saw major improvement. I did what this article says not to...cut the cuticle. Also, it says to treat it with a urea cream. Is urea an anti-fungal? Here's what the article said:

Keep Your Feet Fresh: 6 Ways to Avoid Fungus

By Jessica Ryen Doyle

No one likes looking at fungus – least of all when it’s growing on a person’s foot.

With sandal season upon us – and fungus breeds in hot, moist areas – it’s time to talk about the prevention and treatment of foot and toenail fungus.

“Fungus is an opportunistic organism – it’s all over the place in the summer,” said Dr. Suzanne Levine, a board-certified podiatric surgeon based in New York City. “It’s there when we are playing sports, in the showers, on the beaches, especially if we are perspiring. It loves moisture.”

According to the Mayo Clinic, symptoms of a fungal infection within the foot include:

— Thickened toenails

— Brittle, crumbly toenails

— Discolored toenails

— Itchy, scratchy skin

— Blistering skin

— Toe pain and/or a slightly foul odor

Fungal infections can begin in the nail or the skin, Levine said and then spread to other. If it starts in the nail, it can stem from an infection or trauma, and lead to a more dangerous condition, such as cellulitis.

Also, fungal infections are can be easily spread among family members, she said.

Levine offered these tips to avoiding fungal infections and achieving summer-ready feet:

1. Never walk barefoot in a locker room, steam room or public shower

2. If you are going for a pedicure, make sure the whirlpool tub is thoroughly cleaned with bleach and the tools are disinfected

3. Consider bringing your own bleach and tools to the salon

4. If you constantly wear nail polish, give your toenails a break and let them breathe for a week

5. Use a moisturizing agent around your toenail cuticles, but avoid cutting the cuticles

6. Treat yourself to a foot facial, or microdermabrasion, which will rid the skin of fissures, cracks and/or dry heels; but it should be done with under the supervision of a health care provider

If you already have a fungal infection, Levine said it is imperative to treat the condition aggressively.

“There are all kinds of products on the market,” she said. “Start with a topical agent like urea cream, but you might want to see a doctor if those don’t work because you may need oral medication, in which case blood tests will be needed to monitor your liver enzymes.”

Growing out nail / Progress

Well my toenail that fell off is still growing back good. Hopefully it will keep growing over that "high" skin area. I looked at it w/the magnifying glass and didn't realize how much it had grown since I last looked.

My big toenail the worst one, I can definitely tell a difference in the way it feels in my shoes (it feels like new skin at the tip of the nail rubbing on my shoes) didn't notice that till this morning when I was getting ready for work cause I had flip flops on during the weekend. So the meds must still be working. As far as the ones I am treating without evidence of fungus I don't see any change in them so far.

I did get some new tennis shoes by the way haha. Got some Avia brand they have lots of room in the toe area and were not too bad of a price (40.00).
