toenail problems

After years of toenail/toe issues e.g, fungus, corns, all have disappeared. The answer for me--wearing flipflops as much as possible.

Some online treatments

3.Cover affected area in bandage soaked in coconut oil.

4.Keep bandage on all of day or the evenings and while sleeping.

5.wash feet with soap and water every day and bandage again.

6.Sunlight can also be a good help,a good exposure to at least 20 minutes of sunlight in

7.Usually in the first week you should notice your foot fungus start it's path to healing back to it's old healthy self.

RE: Natural, Effective & Cheap Cure for Toenail Fungus

Amy:

Thank you for your posting on your husband's treatment for toenail fungus. You're absolutely right regarding vinegar being an excellent cure for said fungus.

My mistake was that I was not applying it everyday. I shall take your advise and apply vinegar everyday.

Thank you,

RE: Amy: Treatment for toenail fungus

Amy:

Again, thank you for your posting. I have had this problem for some time. For those with this ugly and unsightly problem do the following steps:

1. Washing your feet thoroughly with soap.
2. Clean all nails, hand and feet nails where infected with a cuticle trimmer and nail file pulling back the skin around the infected nails. This will allow the vinegar to work itself into and under the nails.
3. Soak your feet/hands into warm water with a lot of vinegar for about 10 to 15 minutes, EVERYDAY.
4. Once your infected nails have been soaked for 10 to 15 minutes they are soft. Now is the time to file down the nails as much as possible. This helps rid your nails of the infected nails and ridding yourself of the fungus.

I have just been advised of this procedure by a dermatologist. Best of luck to everyone.

RE: No reviews on effectively-poor products...saving us all the expense

I like many others have toe nail fungus. I've tried without success Tea Tree Oil and Vick's Vaporub. My Doctor has prescribed "Lamisil" which I want to avoid because of potential liver damage (I took Lamisil several years ago but the fungus came back).
So now I'm looking to try some other alternative methods, one of which is "Leucatin". Did you ever get any additional information or testimonials on "Leucatin"? On www.nail-fungus-study.com, they say Leucatin has a success rate of 94%! The site doesn't indicate what "studies" they've done but they have a direct link for you to buy their recommendations... No doubt they get commissions for their referals...
Any help or suggestions would be welcomed.
Jim

RE: Amy, regarding your husband's treatment

Hi Amy
I tried vinegar and Tea Tree Oil. Had good results on skin, but not too good on nails. It seems that the nails do not let much of these remedies go through to reach the nailbed where the fungus is. How did your husband do to have the vinegar reach under the nail?

RE: Amy, regarding your husband's treatment

All he did was spray the vinegar liberally on his nails and let it soak in. Somehow I guess it was absorbed or something into the nail. He didn't do anything special. Hope this helps :)

Here we go!

This past summer, I was getting pedicures with my sister quite often. I was going on cruise at the end of the summer, and of course wanted my feet to be cute.

I had noticed that my big toenail on my right foot was becoming thicker. Not having too much knowledge about it, I asked my sister and the woman who was doing the pedicures. They told me that 'it would grow out'. I wasn't aware there was any infection....Plus it was harder to see since I had nail polish on all the time. The only person who really saw my feet was the pedicure lady.

Fast foward to today, and I realize the thickness was spreading, and the color wasn't the same as the rest of my toes. Also, there is dark spot on the big nail, but I hadn't stubbed my toe within the last months.

I googled, and came here.

Today is the first day of my Vic's Vapor Rub treatment. We'll see how it works for my nail...

This seems to be working....

I seem to be having success with vinegar/OTC fungal cream (ie. miconozole, clotrimazole)/Vicks Vapor Rub (or equivalent). Nothing else has worked for me, but after a month, my nails are finally growing in healthy, for the first time! I pushed back the cuticles, and ground them down with a home manicure kit dremel-like attachment until they were pretty thin. After each shower, I would apply vinegar, I don't know if it matters what kind, I used apple cider. I let it dry and applied a thick layer of fungal cream, rubbing it in very well, especially around the nail edge. I also rubbed it all over the bottom of my foot. I then applied the Vicks ointment (not the cream but the petrol based) and rubbed that in well, deep into the nails and then all over my foot. I then put on a sock. I even sleep with a sock on, however whenever I get a chance, I don't wear socks during the day, after it has soaked in. I did this morning and night. At night, I didn't apply the vinegar, as it only seems to sink in well after a shower. I have been doing this for almost a month, not missing even one day and my nails are growing in normally. I can't believe it. This is after 20 years of nail problems. I am so happy after trying everything else, bleach, straight vinegar, tea-tree oil, hydrogen peroxide and every combination of the above for a year and a half. I will follow up once my nails have grown all the way back in. Yippee!

did not work for me: vinegar and vapor...

I noticed that my toenails were looking browner and browner and getting worse and worse. At first it looked better: sheen, but it gotten worse now. I tried vinegar and vapor... DId not work for me. I am not trying sporanox. The nails are growing and the infected portion seems to be getting forward as the nail is growing. I have taken 1 week on and 3 weeks off for 2 times now. They say I will need one more week in 3 week. I am trying to avoid exposure to humidity and water as much as possible by walking barefoot or wearing sandals, covering the unsightly area with bandaids.

RE: Cazo

I've been reading all of the posts with interest because my husband has had problems with toe and fingernail fungus for many years also. He has never really treated it but is going to start some of the ideas we've read about here.

I was concerned with Cazo's toenail description with the dark material. My husband experienced a trauma to one big toenail along with having the fungus. Years later, his toe began to hurt and we thought it was an ingrown toenail. A podiatrist removed the toenail and did find a growth under it which turned out to be cancer. He had a MORS procedure done to remove the remaining cancer which luckily had not spread to the bone. I just wanted you all to be aware of the possibility of developing cancer, especially if you experience a trauma to a nail. This even includes jogging if your shoes are not properly fitted, as my husband also jogs. I believe in home remedies, but there are also times when it's best to have a physician make sure that there's not a worse problem.

Good luck to all of you.

My toenail problems are over

I'm posting this as a courtesy - hope it helps some of you. I've had toenail fungus for 10 years and, no, I didn't just live with it. I tried teatree oil, vapor rub, vinegar, alcohol, toenail creams, fungus powders and hydrogen peroxide. Yes, for 10 years. For me, none of the treatments worked.
Let me save you all a lot of time. Have the toenail removed. It's the best move I ever made.
I was worried about how the toe would look without a nail. I was worried it would be unattractive. But it looks fine without a nail. It's much more attractive than that hideous yellow nail I had for years.
A qualified podiatrist can perform the procedure in 10 minutes for about $300. They told me the recovery time was 4-6 weeks, but it was really like 3 months for complete healing. After 3 months, I was free. The recovery was not that bad - each day you see it get better - not worse.
Save yourself anymore itching and suffering; stop thinking about what you're going to do; have the nail removed.
Good luck.

Tea Tree Oil

I have had a problem for years with toenail fungus. I inherited it from both sides of my family. It was so bad I was in severe pain b/c both my big toes were so thick they were pinching my skin and showing through my shoes. I had one removed and it grew back with the same problem. This was the most painful thing I have ever experienced. I went through the blood workup to start Lamisil but became pregnant & could not begin the process.

After my children were born I started the tea tree oil treatment. I applied every day and kept them trimmed down and filed down the thickness. I started to notice results after about 1 month of continued use. For the first time in years I felt comfortable enough to wear open toed shoes this past summer. I did wear polish which probably slowed down the process. Wearing open shoes helped b/c my feet were not enclosed in a warm damp environment. Now that winter is here I have removed my polish and are using the oil every day before I go to bed. I told my Dr, who also has this problem, he did not believe me. I cannot wait to show him my nails next time I see him. He had success w/ Lamisil but it came back.

I hope this continues to work. I have always wanted to wear cute open shoes in the summer but have not been able to. My confidence is back. My husband and family are amazed. It has been an life changing treatment. Thank you for all of your postings!!

Nail fell off

When your nail was taken off, is your new nail growing back clear? my nail basically came off. I wonder if this is good and the new nail can grow back! Many people tell me that it is good that it is gone. Is this true?

fungus remedy

I tried aztec natural foot soak - from aztecfungusfighter.com - been using it for 5 months - my nail is growing back clean. It had been thick and lifting - and is now coming back healthy. It is working for me. My mom had her toenail removed. She keeps it painted - still looks kinds nasty.

My struggle with Toenail Fungus

Well I tried Lamisil but I developed a rash, so my doctor told me to discontinue usage. After that I kinda gave up, but my girlfriend is diabetic and I'm really concerned about giving it to her. She's really good about keeping her feet clean and she washes and drys them well almost every night, and she also uses sandles often.

Is toenail fungus contagious though? I've heard yes and no, and it seems to be as controversial as the treatments themselves.

Also, my doctor said that because I had an allergic reaction to lamicil, that the same will probably happen with Sporanox or Diflucan? Do these medications work so similar that this is true or is she just trying to discourage me from using them because of cost? (HMO)

I'm also trying vinegar/an OTC liquid that has tea tree oil. It seems to work because two of my toe nails started coming out clearly but I got lazy and skipped a few days and the fungus overgrew on them.

My next attempt will be to try Penlac and I will also have my toenail removed (but not permanently).

If my next attemp fails, I think I may have my toenails removed permanently. I don't really care if it looks wierd or funny because at the very least, it won't look like I have terrible hygiene and I won't have to worry about passing it on to my girlfriend. My main concern with this procedure though is what risks do I run by not having any toenails?

what did not work for me

I have had toenail fungus for over 2 years and have tried several remedies. First I used vicks vapor rub for 3 months twice a day with no results. Then I tried Leucatin for 6 months and still no results. Both of these at first seem to make my nails look better but I think it is just the oil stopping some of the flakiness. I am going to try the vinegar and or the vinegar, beer, acidophilous soak. At least the person who told me about it was not selling anything. He says it works. We'll see.

Vinegar, tea tree oil working

HELLO,
After searching for remedies for my friend, I found this site. My friend could not afford the prescription drug recommended to her so I did a search online. So far she has only tried the vinegar soak and does this for 15-20 minutes morning and night. Then she applies Tea Tree oil (all during the day when possible) and she told me after only 2 days she could already see a difference.. So, I guess i will pass on some of the other advice, re: Vicks and bleach. I will tell you that some time ago I cut my finger on a can and didn't properly clean it immediately. I later cleaned it better and put a band-aid and antibiotic ointment on it, but that night it woke me up; it was pounding, had turned red, was swollen and extremely painful. It frightened me. I soaked my finger in a Clorox water mixture and the next day it was as if it had never happened. Amazed me.!!! Thanks to all for their input.

RE: what did not work for me

I would try Grapefruit Seed Extract if I were you.
All natural and potent treats a variety of things without any side effects. Kills all sorts of parasites, molds, bacterias and fungi. Best thing is viruses and bacteria can't become immune to it like anti-biotics.
