RE: Vinegar, tea tree oil working
hi, i,d seriously stay with the t-t-oil and vinegar. you worry me with using clorox..its chlorine and dermally absorbable and not good for you full stop.
if you have anything like this again, please use t-t-oil! its a natural antiseptic it goes deep and really is so much safer!cheers and i hope your friends nails improve. i just use a drop of melaleucas pure oil after a shower, and it works for me. |

RE: Natural, Effective & Cheap Cure for Toenail Fungus
I just wanted to say THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!!!!
I have suffered with a fungus on my big toenail for about 6 years now. I read your posting and ran out to buy vinegar and a spray bottle...that was 3 days ago. Today the fungus is about 70% gone and I just couldn't be more thrilled! |

natural cure
Very interesting thread this.
my humble opinion based on my personal circumstance is that the natural remedies work the best, plus of course they are the most cost effective and carry the least risk of side effects. The vinegar cure has a great success rate - but only if the sufferer is prepared to apply the "medication" regularily. this article is a good read http://www.cure-nailfungus.com/home_remedy_cures.html
One of the downsides is the smell, if you have infection in both the toenails and the finger nails you have a semi permement paranoia that other may think you have an addition to fish and chips.

fungus not bacteria
I think that the bleach can take care of the mild infections in nails but if its a fungus an antifungal is the ticket---no one has mentioned OIL OF OREGANO. This is a strong and much studied anti fungal, anti viral AND antibacterial. Ihave had much luck with it. filing the nail to create a more permeable surface. a drop on each nail once a day after the shower. This oil is very strong and can burn or irritate skin easily.I haven't had the problem with the skin around my nails but on softer skin areas I wouldn't consider contact.
I poked a hole in the gelcaps and put them in a bottle that has a dropper.
(smelling like a pizza also makes for an excellent aphrodisiac). |

Will start treatment today
I am another one who found this forum after searching google for a toenail fungus cure. After my family physician saw my toe, he right away told me to get the Vics. It was my idea to get some Rubber Finger Tips at the office supply store so that I could put some Vics in the rubber finger tip and slip it on my toe that is next to the big toe. I will be trying this for the 1st time starting this evening. |

RE: toenail fungus - vaporub
Hi. I'm a 42 year old male, had toenail fungus for about 20 years. I've tried lamisil and turbifine (maybe miss spelled), with limited results. i got worried about having the liver tested so i kinda gave up on them. So I've just been living with the problem, always wearing socks or something on my feet.I've been embarrassed about this for years. Sandles were out of the question and of course this just compouned the problem. If you've looked a pictures of severe nail fungus on the some of these sites, the worst cases you see are me for sure. I've read about tea tree oil and vics vaporub, thought its worth a try. I'm so impressed and happy. Its only been about 2 weeks and already huge improvement. My 2nd and 3rd nails on right foot are very healthy looking and almost normal, and one nail on my left foot.I realize that this will take months untill my nails grow out , but this is what I've done:
-after shower or bath i scraped out as much fungus as possible from under and around nails ( i used brand new exacto knife, but do not recommend this)
-cut my nails as short as possible with clippers, my nails were so thick that using clippers was a chore
-roughed up the nails a bit on top with emery board (file)
-applied couple drops of tea tree oilon each nail, the stuff im using is made by Jamieson. I try to get the oil on top of nail and deep inside as possibe
-after letting it dry a bit..usually 10 min or so, I apply the vics vaporub, using it as a kind of sealer
-If I'm able to, i try to stay barefoot as much as possible
and let it dry, if i have to go out or to work...i just put on my socks and shoes as normal, I try to leave it as long as possible though
-I re apply before bed, again leaving dry as long a possible...im sure that some is coming off on my sheets while i sleep
-for 2 weeks I've repeated this and the results to me are very impressive, I have hope that I'll be wearing sandles this summer, for the first time ever.
- Ive read that if i miss a day, I might have to start over because the fungus can jump over the new growth and get back in...I'm VERY determined.
-Just thought I'd share this with some one who has the same problem as me

Just starting
I've had yellowing and peeling-back on my two big toes for years and have finally decided to attack it. Also my small toe toenails are VERY small - almost none-existent at this point. Not sure if this is related. I've heard about Tea Tree Oil and have been applying it in the morning for a few weeks now, after the shower. No change yet. After reading all of this site, think I'm going to include an emery board to thin the nails and also white or apple cider vinegar. Also good to know not to miss a day. The skin on the bottom of my feet has also been very dry and cracked. I have been rubbing them down with rubbing alcohol, after the shower, which seems to be helping. Is this from athlete's foot, or the same fungus? Also sounds like I should wear shoes and socks less often.
For a long time I also have been cutting back the sides of the large toenails with clippers as I thought this would help open up the area. From what I'm reading I'm now not sure if this is wise. I'll post my progress as it occurs. I'm open to suggestions, too. Thanks. |

Lemongrass to Help Nail fungus
I have read the lemongrass oil can help with nail fungus. Have any of you heard this, or tried it? I used it for the first time last night, and it turned the infected part of my nail black (this could be good or bad)within 24 hours. The healthy part of my nail looks the same. I have yet to try vinegar, but thought I would give the lemongrass oil a shot. |

That sounds good. How long did it take? I've heard 6 months to a year. |

Fungus or not?
I have had trouble with lifting on my big toe for two years. Its started as the white area became just a bit larger. There was a white "gunk" under the nail. When it was quiet I could "feel" a tingly, kinda hurt under the nail every once in awhile. I have never been consistent with treatment. I've used anti-fungals under the nail and a drop I can't remember the name of. My nail person recommended it to me. Neither did any good or seemed to help. Just lately I've noticed the white area has progressed to include most of the nail. I've been told it's a fungus by nail people. I wonder though. I do have really bad bunions and this foot has the worst. The second toe sits on top of the big toe. I'm wondering if this is just causing the nail to lift like an injury might. There isn't any yellowing etc. Any thoughts?

RE: Natural, Effective & Cheap Cure for Toenail Fungus
my fungus has been plaguing me since college (dorm life) and hasn't spread to any other of my toes, but it is severe and painful. i tried the vinegar/peroxide soak and then the clorox/water soak and saw no real improvement. how do you know if it is working? i don't want to waste my time on a treatment if it isn't going to pay off. how quickly did your hubby notice a difference?
thanks |

Give it time
You have to give the treatment time - try 3-4 months!!!
You have to apply your chosen method fairly religeously, twice if not three times a day.

improving the discoloration?
Hi everyone-
I started a vinegar, peroxide, and bleach regimen about 2 weeks ago. But does anyone know any tricks to decrease the yellowing until the nails start to grow out? (I'm going to the beach next week) I used to just polish my toenails, which obviously is a bad idea. They look so awful.
Thanks,
Lisie |

RE: improving the discoloration?
I always use an emery board to smooth and lighten the discoloration , although I don't know how rough your nails are after your treatment - is it possible to file them down a little ? good luck , K |

Dark spot on large toe nail...?melanoma?
Hi, I just read you notice regarding the dark spot on your toe nail. A friend of mine went to her dermatologist to get treatment for her "fungus" and found out it was melanoma. Please go to the doctor and request a biopsy.
Stay well.

it works
I had a toenail fungus on one nail and was told apple cider vinegar would clear it up. I applied it with a cotton ball every day (twice a day would be even better). I did it for a few months and it cleared up. I got it again on the nail next to it, so I should have continued the treatment. I'm doing the same thing and soaking all the nails in apple cider vinegar occassionally to make sure it doesn't spread further. Like every other treatment, you have to do it every day. You're not supposed to skip a day, even though I did occassionally forget and it cleared up anyway. Good luck to everyone with this treatment! It's so inexpensive and effective. |
