Was this issue addressed yet?

I'm thinking about all those poor H&G reviews with no visibility in the "just ins". They won't get to be rated!

This concerns me . . . I'm hoping someone has dropped a bug report. I have about 3-4 that I need to report this morning so I'll do it anyhow, just in case.

Movies in K&F???

Here's a new glitch I don't think anyone has addressed yet. Somehow there are listings for DVD box sets showing up under toys in K&F.

http://www.epinions.com/reviews/Lord_of_the_Rings_Return_of_the_King_Platinum_Series_Extended_Dvd

Any thoughts???

Carrie

Andyman...

Hey Andy,

I just posted maybe a half dozen bug reports on some music category product listings where I get a "page could not be found" error when I try to click for details. They are mainly new releases that should get lots of traffic. Can you just confirm that you are receiving them? If I remember correctly, I used to get a sort of automated response e-mail saying "we got your bug report", but I haven't seen anything like that. (Hmmm... should I file a bug report for that too?)

Thanks Andy, and hang in there, man. We know you all are doing your best.

I'll second to this one! Frankly I'm tad BUGGED because of it. There is several great new albums out in my genre and no way to review them as of now. I did file a bug report on one of them few days ago and I'm not going to start filing more bug reports because it seems like most new releases are not found as of now. I was also quite surprised to find out that I could not find one new album from quite popular singer at all.

I'm hoping this music dilemma will get resolved rather sooner than later!

If it makes you feel any better, I had this issue with two big releases back in August. And I'm now having the issue with a new book title.

No, I didn't think it would make you feel better either.

Okay, also, I didn't see this addressed.

http://www.epinions.com/hmgd/show_~recent_content

It says no reviews in the Just In's ... so I can't rate H&G for Advisor stuff?

Help :)

Help is on the way. It's in our top 3.

The second listing which has no picture does have reviews if you follow the link, but why doesn't it 'say' there are reviews from the search results? Will this be fixed (in time)?

Yes - it's reported and in the fix queue.

As for the Epinions search, could we find our reviews with the old search anyway? I know a lot of my stuff never came up when I looked for it with the old search.

Yeah, thanks for mentioning this. On the first day of its life, the new search engine has problems. We'll keep working on them. And some of them are just transition pains.

But on the best day of its life, the old search engine was terrible. With a little time and work, we'll bounce and the site will work better for everyone.

As I said, I hope I'm over reacting-and as you can tell from my paranoia, I've been through many a corporate merger in my chequered past. I am hoping that things will be fixed. Lately I've been averaging 260 hits a day....after the new search machine thingy kicked in--I had barely 100 hits. All I can say is----OOOOOOOPS! Hope things work well soon. Thanks.

You should expect hits to shift. We're using a totally new catalog. We had to do quite a bit of work just to carry over all our existing products and reviews. But making sure they show up just as before and get the same number of hits is not in our power. Some reviews that were favored by the old search engine are going to see fewer hits. The reviews you write on the new products should be easier to find than before. We cannot promise that the distribution of hits will stay the same, nor should it necessarily. It's a completely new catalog and a completely new search engine. It's all going to behave a little differently.

Things will even out over time.

Yeah, I've received them. We've never sent automated messages in reply although sometimes our replies are brief. We have more reports than usual coming in right now and have a lot of follow up work to do on the release, so I'm a bit behind in responding. Sorry for the delay there.

Wasn't there some kind of planning like system testing, integration testing, user acceptance testing, etc. on a test system so all the categories on Shopping.com would be set up before this went live and so the impact wouldn't be so great.

Of course there was a ton of planning and testing involved, as there always is. However the enormity of the challenge cannot be overstated. It's like replacing the carburetor on a car at 60MPH. We actually did approximately a zillion things to mitigate the bumps in the road, but it was not in our power to make the road as smooth as a baby's bottom. I really would have liked to but there was a reasonable threshold to what could be done, or should be done.

The problem with trying to make everything come out exactly like before is that, as we all know, the old search engine worked poorly. The results shown were wildly irrational quite often, and that needed to change. So we can't have it both ways. We can't completely change the way Search worked *and* distribute hits exactly as before. There's going to be a shift. But as you begin using the new catalog, this will even out over time. We did make every effort possible to make sure that the old products and reviews are findable, though as you will notice they don't always come out on top of the lists.

This is a transition. I can't make it *not* a transition. Hang in there. Income Share will still be distributed by the same method: reviews shoppers use to make decisions will garner earnings. Our goal is to provide them a search engine that better responds to their queries.

Clarification for food

Andy, can you address the new (and wonderful) food & drink category. It seems to be under H&G, but it's the restaurant advisors whose tags show up in the ratings.

Also, these reviews don't seem to be in any of the category specific just-ins.

Can you tell us what the ultimate placement of these reviews will be (and when they'll make it to the just-in pages)?

Thanks,

Mona

If only there was a place where it might be convenient to find links to recently published 'food' reviews . . .well ...once someone** gets back from a silly 4-day real-world experience . . .that would be cool. A place to find and enjoy many, many food reviews I mean. Way cool.

** Oooh, ooh . . .forgot about a comment section somewhere, probably filling up at this very moment with URLs. I am sure some good reads could be found there..!!

Yeah, Yeah, but if our reviews are never rated, they'll never meet your high standards of H/VH!!!

Hits Vs. IS

If my hits are dropping precipitously--can I expect the same for my IS--you know---- a precipitous drop?.....I would appreciate an honest answer if at all possible.

Ahh . . .but an engaged and eager readership will surely track down any review whose URL is left in that unnamed comment section.

I share your pain and concern. My daily hits are off by about 40%, even on my most popular reviews currently in this year's top 10.

We can still rate H&G reviews by picking them out of the site-wide just-ins.

"Ish" (that's my standard word for sorta) - lol.

I got a message about "another way" to go around the site and try and find them but haven't tried yet ... Rudy posted a little about it I see.

But unless you are a H&G titleholder I don't think the message got out to you (????) --- I'd hate to see people not writing in H&G because the hits are so low ... (then again, my hits lately in H&G are insanely low comparatively) ...
