Hey Tom, I like the idea of your suggestion but wonder if such thoughts should be sent email. I wouldn't want it to seem that management is jumping on or shunning particular suggestions from our community members.
Maybe they want suggestions I don't know.
Just my thoughts, and certainly not policy.

Toys Etc...
As a teacher at an alternative school, I'm more than aware of the need at Christmas time for such projects. You'd be amazed at the lists these kids make, such as gas cards so their parents can go to work and put food on the table, toys for younger brothers and sisters, etc...Should such a write off occur--I would dredge up as many golf reviews as my fingers could type. |

Management has certainly been accused of pandering to the vocal minority on these boards (unfairly I will add) in the past. But it seems to me this is a good sounding board for sensing the interests and passions of the community. Mature folk will understand that not all suggestions will be accepted and implemented. Moderators attempting to censor that expression may not be acting in the site's best interest.

Hey Larry, to be fair you should have had my two lines
Maybe they want suggestions I don't know.
Just my thoughts, and certainly not policy.
But anyways, fair enough, but perhaps another thread to discuss this. It seems we are being brought off topic on an important issue, the search.

Yeah--it'd be a drag to see all those golf reviews go up for a good cause, and no one able to read them...but then again..I digress |

RE: New Search Stuff...
Quote: gamblin_man Most, but not quite all, reviews in Home and Garden are now showing in that just-in list. The Advisors are quickly catching up and you should see some hats next to your ratings now. It appears that some of the new categories that the SP brought in are not yet propagating to the just-in, though. I know of a couple in Tools and Accessories that are not showing up there. Shop Tools used to have its own just-in lists, but this feature doesn't seem to be available as the categories are merged.
Larry
I noticed something strange today that might have been addressed already and if so, please accept my apoligies, but on my latest reviews from the new food and drink category under Home and garden, I noticed I had two advisers rate my reviews and their bubble is showing but those members do not have hats in home and garden yet have them in restaurants and gourmet...any reason for this?
Thanks |

RE: Why is you here..??
Quote: joyfulgirl91 I hate to say this, because many of my favorite writers on the site are immersed in the categories classically considered labors of love, but if we don't choose to provide Epinions with reviews of the things their shoppers are searching for and spending money on, how fair is it really to say they aren't doing their side of the bargain?
I find it doubtful that the 'things' featured are really things people are looking for/spending money on. Just newer stuff off and on. See the examples I posted for the search of "The Others".

RE: *laugh*
Quote: roheblius Why doesn't everyone wait until we fix some of these bugs, and then we can complain (or not) about the site.
There are things that are in the pipeline to be fixed (or already are fixed and waiting for a push) that will make some of these complaints, non-complaints.
OK. So why not announce what sorts of things are in the pipeline? If those developments are going to make complaints non-complaints it would seem like this would ease everyones' minds, right?
From my perspective I'd rather put out my take on things now while things are in flux rather than wait until things are 'fixed' (or the developers think that they are).
As for the first review deal, I'm still feeling pretty ***royally*** raked over the coals after posting my first first review (ever) into invisibility. Not talking about the search thing necessarily but rather Movies issues (and I did post comments about it in the category section).

When we can actually release it, we will.
If I can get that information from the engineers before then, I'll try to post it. But that's not assured. |

I'm feeling unqualified to comment
I can share my feelings, but they're pretty much irrelevant to anyone but me.
I know the mantra for *years* has been that no one should write at Epinions expecting money. The mining of your own data as a proxy for the site's data violates so many rules of analytic rigor that my head hurts.
As for the search engine (shrug), I've never written the specifications for a search engine covering millions of permutations so I wouldn't know where to begin. Is "the" a stop word? I guess. (shrug again) I'm certainly not about to tell people who do this for a living how to code and what they've done wrong in their code.
If I come across an error, I'll file a bug. And when the bugs are all resolved, I'll evaluate where we are and have an opinion. But I swear I'm going to maintain perspective on this latest Epinions drama. Improvements were made to the site. There are going to be changes and missed IS and hats in the wrong spot and whatever.
When Jeff Bezos writes me and thanks me for the couple of thousand dollars I spend every year at Amazon and includes a checklist of what his engineering and development teams are working on then I'll expect Epinions to do the same. Heck, I read no less than 50 articles from well-placed sources in the last month swearing that a Google phone (a Gphone) was being released this month.
Oops.
Perspective. It's a beautiful thing. |

Apologies not necessary. There was a thread on this but I couldn't quickly find it to point you towards. I will be happy to answer.
Although the breadcrumbs at the top of page show this to be a Home and Garden category, those are incorrect. It is a Restaurants and Gourmet category. The new reviews (if they show up)show up in the R&G list, not the H&G list. R&G hats show up when they rate those reviews because that is where they belong. This is also true of many beer and wine listings that show by breadcrumb as being H&G. Staff is aware of this and it is on their fix list.
When you write on all the great new food products, you are not only supporting R&G, but if you register them, you are supporting the November charity. Keep writing there.

Wow, that's great, many thanks for answering me so quickly but why is my rates don't show up as adviser on those reviews though that is one of my hats in R&G or I do not have the MH button when rating them..or are those bugs that will be fixed?
Hmm, I've registered both my two new reviews and have found quite a few products I just added to my wish list...products I've used for years...:) |

Yes it is a bug. Others see your hat, but you can't. It's on the list.

The good news is...
...all my new reviews are getting picked up by Google right away. I was amazed that one I posted earlier today was up there already. That's just putting in the product. No Epinions or any other search helper.
The bad news is...
...that I have 282 products without category placement when I look down my listings of reviews. What will that mean? Anything?

I have been castigated before for being the conveyor of bad news, so all I will say is, "Ask the folk who write in Pets".
