Sadly, no. I've not looked lately, but last time I checked:

• eBay member reviews are given preference
• only three epinions reviews appear on any given item
• those three are the three most recent reviews, regardless of overall rating and "hattage"

Although some would say that eBay's search engine is superior to that of epinions (a claim that I sometimes think might reasonably be made for a Magic 8-Ball), it's a little strange in the Reviews department. There might be twenty or thirty different listings for the same product, all with reviews attached to them - and different reviews on every one. The epinions reviews appear on only one - and it's usually buried somewhere down the list.

So my guess is that any "wider exposure" borders on the mythical.

See, that baffles me. Since ebay now owns epinions, wouldn't it stand to reason that they would want to at least semi-heavily market our site? The more traffic we get, the more click-throughs, and the more revenue they make. And yet, I don't see epinions mentioned on ebay. I don't understand the motivation, or lack thereof, behind that.

Can we repost epinions reviews on ebay?
That's a good question. I have one reposted over there, because eBay didn't know that I was the same person and I didn't see any of my reviews there. Then I realized that people could rate our epinions there too. One person didn't find my review helpful, perhaps because they thought it was copied from this site. Of course, the possibility exists that someone actually thought it wasn't helpful.

If it's illegal to keep it up, I'll gladly take it down. In an excited moment, I contemplated putting all of my epinions reviews there, but then someone announced that our reviews were being folded in by category so I decided to wait and haven't had the motivation to repost them since.

You'd think so, wouldn't you. Problem being, of course (assuming eBay actually knows/remembers that they own a company that owns Epinions) that may not have any easy way to correlate the Epinions reviews to the eBay items.

You'd think that the catalog of reviews on "outdated" products would be right up eBay's alley, since so much of what they sell is stuff that's been replaced with more up-to-date versions.

You'd think so...

Freaking out improves blood-flow, and can be fun. That's how amusement parks make money.

Wheeeeeeeeeeeeee!

Ebay thinks its reviews are better than epinions' because they come from Ebay members. It's simple bias. Maybe the answer is to post your reviews at Ebay directly if you want maximum exposure. Ebay does have a bigger reach.

Based on what I have read, Ebay does not pay its reviewers.
I think it is only a question of time before some clever accountant suggests to Ebay that it does not need to pay for reviews at Epinions when people post them for free at Ebay.

Well, as long as they wait until this month is over.

Rex,

Is this your Fort Wayne common sense kicking in?

If so - you gotta know that outside of Fort Wayne - well our common sense is foreign to others. In fact, it can downright creep those folks out. Like we're practicing witchcraft or something.

Kristina, who really hates breakin' things like this to Rex.

Technically, my reviews here do come from an ebay member since I am one. I won't post them over there, though. If I were ever going to post somewhere else, I would have done it long before now. I'm way too comfortable here to change locations.

It just seems as though they should want to make better use of this web site they acquired.

I can see where that would be a problem, but why not at least have a link to us? Something, somewhere, that mentions this site.

Exactly. I could see the potential for people browsing reviews here, reading one that intrigues them, and thinking "Ooh, I want that!" They could then go find it on ebay and grab it at a great price.

It could happen...

Please read what I wrote about eBay reviews. They don't even support the project any longer.

I am not too sure about your #5. Why would travel and restaurants still be getting IS while cheaper items like toys and books not receive any IS or little IS? Seems travel would be the first hit when there is no extra spending money. More expensive items. Swimming products have the /review in them. All that I have done.

Depends on the kind of travel...

I've seen an uptick on reviews of destinations near major population centers - I'm thinking people just don't want to travel far. I've also seen an uptick on reviews that have "budget" in the product name or my title get something of a boost in hits for the last few months (of those that are actually counting hits of course).

Ah...that wonderful database problem.

Think of what's going on intergrating Eps database into Shopping.Com's - I can only imagine what would happen if they tried to integrate it into eBay's.

Travel has been doing very well both old reviews and new ones posted this year...including Caribbean destinations.

I've noticed that a bit, too bad on the two beach vacations I'm taking this month one next week just for a few days and at the beginning of July I won't have any new destinations to write about since I am staying in the same hotels and have written about Palm Beach and Marco Island already...;(

shifting of the IS pot

Quite true - I am surprised at the amounts for some of my reviews, especially some older reveiws that never earned more than a few pennies before. Of course, with all the reviews with /review/ in them not earning IS, the overall IS pot has shifted so the reviews that might not have earned a lot before are earning more.

May have something to do with it but

Ours is not to reason why.
Ours is but to (write) or die
