No WYSIWYG?

RE: New WYSIWYG Text Editor Help Thread

I am still not getting the new editor ~ I signed out and deleted my cookies ~ what else can I do? Would someone please invite me to the WSYWIG party???

I'm on www1.epinions, if that makes any difference.

Jennifer, what browser are you using? The WySIWYG editor disappeared on me, too, I thought, but discovered it apparently doesn't work with some browsers. Works fine in Mozilla and apparently some versions of IE.

I'm using IE version 7.0.5730.11. I'm not sure how old it is, but supposedly I get Microsoft updates.

I have been waiting patiently for something to magically occur, but so far, it's the same ol' same ol'. Maybe I should reboot the computer? ~J

Any ideas how to fix the hideous extra lines curse?

I put one line between my paragraphs and it publishes as three. I take them out, it puts them in. I take out all extra spaces, it publishes with no extra spaces.

This may be the first Eps related thing I've ever complained about, but it really bummed me out this morning and I tried to fix how ugly my review was!

~S

Every time I edited pre-publishing it inserted a new line--by the time I actually published, there were six or seven lines between each paragraph. I had to put back into draft to take out the extra lines, and I do still have an extra line between each paragraph.

Today was the first time I've ever seen/been nailed by the new editor. I didn't delete cookies or anything to get it to appear--it just did.

In regards to Barbara's post about her write off, I added a couple of links to my write off in the WYSIWYG editor last night and it worked fine. At the risk of insulting those who already know how it works, here's a primer:

If you want to insert Mozarella Cheese to your review:

1. Type in 'Mozarrella Cheese'

2. Use your mouse to highlight the words 'Mozarrella Cheese'

3. At the top of the editor box, there is an icon with two little circles linked together that looks kind of like a chain link. Click on that button.

4. A box will pop up asking for the URL. Paste the URL of the review in there, and everything should be fine.

When you do links in the new editor, you don't have to take out any numbers that appear after the 'www' to get it to work, like you had to in the HTML editor.

For example, I used to have to change www99.epinions.com/content_99999999 to www.epinions.com/content_99999999 That is no longer necessary.

Someone from Brisbane could correct me on this, but I think this editor is still just on certain servers. I had it last night with the 'www99' URL, but don't have it now on the 'www1' URL, so clearing cookies might still work to get out of it.

Personally, I love the new editor and think it's a step in the right direction, if for no other reason than the fact that I can edit it while it's in an 'easy to read' format.

Grace

Edited to clarify directions in original post

Thanks so much for the clarification. I think I understand now and really appreciate your help. I will try it later when I add my shampoo review to its related review once its finished...:)

I apologize to the PTB. Had I just spent a tiny bit more time looking around, I would have seen the "Paste from Word" button that pops up a new window. If I paste into that window instead of the first box, all is well and Steffi is a happy reviewer.

Huh? Was this added since yesterday? D

Actually my 13-year-old son pointed that out to me. :(

well it's done. and all went well. I used the small box to transfer from word. there was no spacing so I just gave each paragraph one space and it came out fine. I then highlighted the words I wanted to come out in Bold and hit hit the b and that worked fine. I didn't put the HTML's in my document as I usually do after reading all these posts.

(

I've been playing with the "paste from word" button and it seems to work perfectly! You can use bold and italics in your Word document (REAL bold and italics, not html codes for bold and italics) and it seems to translate perfectly.

I'm not having any spacing issues, either.

Consider me a happy camper.

RE: New WYSIWYG Text Editor Help Thread

Taking the info about multiple line italics/bold that I first read from ...tom..., I went to one of my reviews where I wanted to add links, highlighted the multiple line itralics I had used to identify the material as a quote and unclicked the italics, added quote marks around it, highlighted each of the phrases I wanted to link and used the chain to add the links.

Sweet.

RE: New WYSIWYG Text Editor Help Thread

I haven't tried to use the new format yet; my last review was posted about three or four days ago.

But I'm a little concerned about the button someone mentioned earlier, "Post from Word."

I may be the last person on the planet who uses WordPerfect instead of Word, which I don't like at all.

Does this mean that I'll have to save my drafts in Word format in order to take advantage of these formatting shortcuts? My WP program allows me to do this, but it sounds sort of nuisanceful to have to do so.

I think you can use with any word processor. I used it to import a review I had written in Open Office's word processor and it worked fine. I had extra line spaces, but otherwise everything was okay. I just deleted those before posting and it worked okay.

I did have an issue just now when I went to edit my review and add italics to two words...I highlighted the word then hit the i and when it went to publish I got that message of a beginning italic but no ending. so I took those two words and removed the i, then it published but kept the bold words from the original. I wonder if editing has anything to do with this issue.

Question about adding links, If I update my write-off review to add a review link someone left me, is there a chance I will have any problems re-publishing it and getting those messages and not be able to republish it unless I take them out?...Now that would be a nightmare!

I think someone mentioned that was an issue last night.

I use WordPerfect as well, so you aren't all alone. I prefer WordPerfect and don't intend to switch to Word for any reason.

I did use the paste from Word button last night when I tried to post a review. That worked all right with the spacing. However I was having issues with my links and getting them to work. I gave up after getting a headache and my edits weren't changing. I thought I might have figured it out, but since nothing changed, I didn't know. I'll be brave and try the do the links again later.

I do think it would have much nicer if there had been some directions released with this. That would have saved a lot of us a lot of aggravation.

I agree wholeheartedly. I did print the info grace wrote and will be following her info closely when I go to add a new link...I'm just so afraid of loosing links in updated older reviews.

Yaaay Dragon! I'll never get used to working blind; I absolutely need my codes visible when I work.

What I found out yesterday is if I get lost trying to update a review, I can just back out and the old review will still be there intact. If you do have problems (the only one you might run into is if you have an italics or bold that runs more than one line or maybe ends a line) You can fix those or just use your back button as soon as you get the unpaired HTML message to get back to the original review.

RE: New WYSIWYG Text Editor Help Thread

nope, I'm still getting this response when I follow the directions and try to include bold:
You have an opening ... without a closing .
You have a closing without an opening .

The ellipses stand in for the bold/unbold commands. I do a fair amount of work in HTML on several blogs and web sites and have not run into this kind of problem before. Google's blogs make it basically idiot-proof, to the point where it's hard to override certain things but this html function is not working for me. I've again tried it multiple ways--bold on the original Word document, bolding after copying it into the box, etc., and always get the same error. There ought to be a way to opt out of this too, other than just writing in the open post area.
