I just had a thought
Remember in the movie "The Sixth Sense" where the kid said "I see dead people?" On this new WYSIWYG set up I just thought I heard the kid say, "I see $#(@." Anybody else think that is funny? ;> |

RE: New WYSIWYG Text Editor Help Thread
Quote: gamblin_man What I found out yesterday is if I get lost trying to update a review, I can just back out and the old review will still be there intact. If you do have problems (the only one you might run into is if you have an italics or bold that runs more than one line or maybe ends a line) You can fix those or just use your back button as soon as you get the unpaired HTML message to get back to the original review.
Larry
Thanks Larry but I think my write-off is toast,,,all the links on that page are in sentences that run more then one line, some of the links themselves carry over onto a second line....this is not good, I won't be able to add anyones new reviews to the rest of them...this really blows dog...err, what was that expression used in that infamous write-off...
and I was really planning on having fun with Stephens black and white movie write-off...
another Saturday night on epinions, so what else is new?

Barbara,
I just saw your write off, and everything looks fine. The links I checked on worked as well :)

RE: New WYSIWYG Text Editor Help Thread
yeah I'm good and annoyed. Had big issues trying to paste a review written in Word 2007 the other day.
Tonight I can't even post a review written in the Eps editor without 4 extra break lines between every paragraph. What the heck is going on? Why would Epinions sic this silly system on us when it clearly isn't ready to deal with new software? |

My experience with 'extra spaces is explained here.
I suspect you are experiencing the same thing.

Barb, you are talking about your French/English write-off, correct..??
I copied a dozen or so of your links into a 'dummy' review and went in to it to add some new links.
Everything worked fine, no HTML errors, no spacing problems, no nothing ...except functional old links and new, functional links.
You might want to experiment with it yourself. At worst you can back out and change nothing.
Just a thought.

Pros and cons sections
I'm confused about the pros and cons sections.
Sometimes my pros and cons are surrounded by paragraph marks (leaving lots of blank lines), other times they are surrounded by line breaks (so their spacing looks "normal").
I can't figure out the inconsistency. Anyone have any thoughts on this phenomenon?

I'm going to go with "The new WYSIWYG editor doesn't work." |

AH! Therein lies the problem - no one knows the specifics. Actually, if we knew the specifics, I doubt anyone would be having problems with this thing at all...sad, sad, sad. |

I have a theory. If I have pasted something into my review from somewhere else, I seem to have the Paragraph HTML code in my Pros and Cons section. If I have just started a new review from scratch and not pasted in anything, the Pros and Cons seem normal. I've been dealing with this by editing my Pros and Cons using the HTML editor and removing extra paragraph marks.
Anyone else notice this? |

My experience
I've posted two reviews today (they're not actually posted yet, because I need to wait until their published on Curled Up, but they're basically all done), and had a lot of problems with the new editor.
I finally figured out what I needed to do, though. I was as careful as I could be about not "bolding" too much and all of the stuff that's been talked about in this thread. But when I get the HTML error, I just clicked on the "HTML button" and discovered a lot of gibberish (ok, I'm sure it means something to those who know HTML) about "End-ifs" and stuff like that. When I removed all that crap in the HTML editor, the review posted fine.
If you're still having trouble with that error, I'd suggest checking out the HTML and seeing if you have a huge block of useless HTML stuff in there. It's all in one block so it's easy to spot.
Mona, is the "End-if" stuff what you're talking about when you talk about "end of line characters" and the like? I admit my HTML knowledge is minimal.

Beta Release is Goofy
My latest was held hostage for several hours while I tried everything I could dream up in order to get on with life.
The problem appears with the bolding of only one single character or, of course, a title line. I got rid of that problem by highlighting the whole draft then punching the B button twice. Swept any conflicting code clear and life resumed.
The ITALICS selections worked fine.
I noticed that the copyright 'bug' code will not work any more. Should we worry?
The extra line problem would not go away - I think a revision or update will have to be done by editing the word processor draft (be it in Notepad, Word, or Writer) and saving it as an HTML Doc. Highlight the whole thing and copy/paste into the epinions edit window.
I also think we should be paid $100 / hour for our furious efforts to fix these Beta Errors. |

RE: What works for me.
Changing/Saving as a .txt file sounds logical - that's where we were for years - no formatting allowed in the draft.
Hitting that HTML button opens a can of worms for sure.
Good idea. |

Actually, no. I've not seen any "end-if" stuff in my html. But someone else was talking about "lines of gibberish" earlier. I suspect that the different platforms out there are yielding different results for us. So our experiences are not all the same.
If anyone can send me their html "gibberish" I'd love to take a look, see if I can make any sense of it.

I'd love to, if it comes up. My next reviews will be movie reviews with very little bolding or anything like that. But if I do end up getting the gibberish, I'll send it to you.
