Soft4

I had no problem with soft4. Downloaded xp pro. Also gave me download of Nero to make bootable CD and windows patch to make available windows update. Installation went smoothly and runs well. Filled out trouble ticket, was having unrelated gaming issue, and they gave my support and answered quickly. Had no problem validating with microsoft but because of the type of purchase you can't get free support from Microsoft. Must pay fee for support.
But for the price WHAT THE HECK. Number of sites you can get support without Microsoft.

My Experiences w/S4D

I normally will post a comment only if I am upset about a company, but Soft4Download provides such a good deal that I had to respond and give my positive experiences with the company.

Admittedly, I have noticed that one day the site is at one address and another the next and they take more than a day to respond to your support questions, but I have ordered both Microsoft Office 2003 and Macromedia Studio and had no problems with the purchase, download, installation and validating.

If some people are not able to download right after they purchase it is because you did not read the instructions - they provide a link to the download site w/in 24 so your payment can clear.

I plan on making additional purchases there b/c I saved hundreds on both purchases.

Hope it helps

Cal

S4D

I have purchased 3 products from them and have received them as promised. I am very concerned about pirateware so would like any feedback I can get on how to check it out.

I have been told that OEM software generally has to be distributed with a new PC. I suppose distribution contracts can have all sorts of clauses in them. I certainly want affordable software but don't want to do it at the expense of the developers.

I have since been told that Microsoft doesn't allow download of any of their software under any circumstances. Can anyone confirm that?

Soft4Download

Driven by the low prices, I ordered from this site--before checking them out. I thought I, too, would be another rip off story. But after 3 days (delay was due to holiday weekend) I was able to download my product and all installed as promised. However, I'm still going to monitor my credit card now. Not sure about their charge to my card--it was there and then it's not? Will check with my bank. Otherwise, all went as promised.

All valid Microsoft products will have the hologram CD and/or a hologram product sticker for the computer that the software is loaded on. Items purchased retail usually have both; hardware purchased with OEM software pre-loaded usually only has the sticker already affixed to the outside of the computer.

To find out more about whether a Microsoft product you have loaded on your machine is valid, check out this Microsoft page.

Keep in mind that a lot of the cheap OEM software for sale, which looks, walks, talks and acts legal, is of the "extra copies" variety: a company purchases 1000 upgrades of Windows, say, and instead of going to each computer on the network and installign a fresh copy, the sysadmin opens one disc and blasts the upgrade to each of the computers on the network (MSFT allows this if that's your licensing scheme). What happens to the 999 copies, shrinkwrapped and hologrammed and so forth, not opened and not being used? Yup.

But if you're downloading OEM software online, it's undoubtedly pirated.

have had good experiences with s4download [=sdownload]

My experience with this download software bargains has been great. I bought Photoshop CS2 from this company for a good price and they were attentive to my follow up questions about installing; several months later, they helped me download again the same program when I had to do an OS reinstall.

Just read the agreement carefully before you buy--there are some time restrictions.

Having a good experience with this company changes nothing about the fact that they are selling pirated software.

CC temp/pre-authorization

Regarding the quote following my message:

I wouldn't want a panic of calls flooding CC companies and banks.

ANYTIME time you use your CC or Debit card, the business (yes, even US businesses) will run it through for a pre-authorization to ensure the CARD is VALID and enough CREDIT (CC Card) or CASH (Debit Card) is available. The amount is usually a dollar. They do not get your address or other personal information simply from this process.

This is standard practice and should not be used to determine scammers.

"On my credit card there mysteriously appeared a 'temp' authorization for some scum in Moscow, Russia. I was hip to the status, and immediately called the credit card company and CANCELLED my card. There is a MESSAGE HERE!! TAKE HEED!! These clowns do the 'temp' authorization in order to see if your info is current, then they go out and buy stuff with YOUR credit card....
BUYER BEWARE!!! I repeat "BEWARE!!!"
Any so-called 'positive' answers to the charges are done by god-knows-who, ya' CAN'T TRUST ANYONE these days!!!"

I can't speak to the specific instance because I don't know the details of the situation. However, whether it's "standard practice" or not, nobody has the right to run any charge on my card without my specific authorization. 'Testing' my card is not necessary - all the test they need is to run the sole charge that I've authorized by purchase of goods or services. If my card clears, I make my purchase. If it doesn't, I don't.

I would not do business with any company that handles charges any other way. There's no reason to do it, I wouldn't give authorization for it, and doing it without my specific permission is, by defenition, credit card fraud.

Something being standard practice doesn't make it either logical or legal.

Shut these people down

These people are just Morpheus or Kazaa who charge. People can get these programs free if they want to do it illegally and risk getting into trouble. They won't get a registration key either.

I think this place is one huge scam and someone should shut them down. They're simply pirating software and making money from people who can't afford the actual version (or don't want to spend the $$ on it).

Without a proper registration, you're using illegal (or at least pirated which is illegal) software.

I took my computer to be fixed once and the place erased my copy of Printshop Pro because I didn't have a registration key for it and it was deemed not legal or something. From what I was told, computer repair places and the like can and will erase or report pirated software programs.

Not worth the risk on any level, in my humble opinion.

Patty

RE: SOFT4DOWNLOAD - BAD NEWS!

AVOID THIS COMPANY!!

Add my name to the list of those SCAMED by these crooks (blush). SHUT THEM DOWN! I guess I should have checked EPINIONS first?? My bad, I am now checking with my bank to get the charges reversed... I'm not holding my breath. I other concern is that these scam artists use the info to pull more money out of my account, so I am closing it down. WHAT A PAIN IN THE NECK!

Troubleshooting with s4download.com

I do I.T. for an attorney who purchased some software (MS Office & Norton AntiVirus 04) from s4download.com back in October 05. He wondered why the CD's weren't showing up in the mail, and of course figured out that his purchase on s4download.com was for a download only, no disks. Thus began my interesting experience with s4download.com. I believe the stuff is probably pirated, but the software itself works fine - it's just the downloading that's troublesome.

Back in October, I used the login name and password that s4download.com emailed me to access their specified URL (http://sdownload.net/). I was able to download the Microsoft office software just fine, and it works on the PC with no problems. Before I could download the Norton Antivirus, other I.T. issues intervened in the last few months, and a few days ago, in February 2006, I attempted to do part 2 of the downloading, only to find that sdownload.net no longer exists, nor does 4download.info, which is the URL specified for European customers.

So, after checking epinions and becoming very disconcerted about others' experiences with this company, I emailed their customer service (support@s4download.com) and received no reply, and left messages at their customer service phone number (888-505-5361), which was a general mailbox with a phone company generic-type outgoing message, and received no phone reply. Finally, after many calls, I finally got through to a live person! - a customer service rep with a thick Russian accent named "Jessica." So, I suppose that supports other posts that the company is located in Russia.

She provided me with 2 new/current URLs to try with my original login name and password: www.dc-bp.com and www.dc-tb.com. I attempted the first one, www.dc-bp.com, and it let me log in with the login name and password! So, the download site www.dc-bp.com works as of 02/08/2006.

I believe the company is suspicious, but legitimate, and what they do to make life difficult for customers and investigators and therefore preserve their profits and longevity is to frequently change their URLs, maybe even every couple days. So, it's just a matter of getting through to their customer service and getting the current URL, though that's easier said than done.

Honestly, I was dumbfounded that this wasn't a COMPLETE scam and that my boss's money wasn't all lost. I was so convinced that that would be the case.

So I hope this helps anyone with similar problems.

Interesting Post-Script: It looks like in the last few months since I originally ordered Norton Antivirus 2004, Norton caught on and de-activated the software activation code. In other words, when I called the Norton 800-number to punch in the activation code provided by the Norton software in order to receive an "unlock code" that I could input back into the program for "full" activation, it instead gave me a message that the "activation code is invalid." After calling Norton's customer service at 800-745-6055, they tried unsuccessfully to track my s4download.com order in order to legitimate it and give me a proper code, telling me instead that they didn't support s4download.com purchases and to try to reach their customer service. That's when I gave up and said it's probably worth the $40 to buy Norton 2006 after the 2 weeks of pre-activation scans the Norton 2004 will allow me. I guess the lesson is, if you're going to buy these cheap downloadable software programs online, don't tarry!

RE: Soft 4 Download

I'm a regular customer at Soft4Download.com. I recently needed to re-download a file from over a year ago and they re-activated me at my first request, I downloaded the file and I'm good. Not sure how you people are suffering like this??? Seems to work fine for me.

Soft4Download

I have purchased three times from this company. After the 24hr wait I received my download instructions for each product and they all loaded successfully. The MS products all registered and have gone through updates without a hitch or complaint from Bill Gates. I have not experienced any credit card fraud or spam related issues from using this company.
I would recommend this company to any user with a little above average computer experience.
