Juniper Bank Rapes it's Consumers

Over the last year I have read many complaints regarding Juniper Bank / Barclay's Bank Credit Card rate gouging. Honestly, I figured it was the writers fault for missing their payments or going over the limits. Afterall they broke their contract. Well, let me tell you, I got mine. I have never missed a payment, as matter of fact I double up on payments each month and pay well over the minimum requirement. I have never exceeded the limit. As a matter of fact I have done nothing wrong. Yet I received a notice from Juniper Bank advising me that my fixed interest rate of 7.99% will now be changing to a variable rate of prime + 9.something% going to an initial rate of 12+%. When I called to inquire about the change the reason I was given was that 'it's not a personal attack on me but rather a business decision due to the economy'. This is the lamest excuse I have ever heard for a corporation to rape their consumers. Enough is enough, these companies shouldn't be aloud to take advantage of people. I closed the account and will be issuing payment in full, this bank does not deserve to profit off of me. I encourage anyone who reads this to not send your business to this bank. They will take advantage of you to line their own pockets. Companies like this deserve to go out of business!

RE: Juniper Bank Rapes it's Consumers

Same thing has happened to me, but they want to raise my rate to 23%! I have a 780 credit rating! I've been desperately trying to pay off this card with triple payments even, but they want to keep you in debt and make sure no one is ever able to pay it off. I had no choice but to opt out of the increase, which means they'll close the card and my credit rating will fall. However, I will still be able to make payments at the lower interest rate until it's paid off. Lesson learned: DON'T USE CREDIT CARDS!

Barclays Bank/Juniper

Really by reading others reviews i believe that many people like to complain if they do not get there way. Really it is a FINANCIAL INSTITUTION. They issue credit cards and for the most part people really need to read the terms and conditions of their credit cards to see what they are getting themselves into. And people say they do which is a lie really. Most of the US does not read any type of contract. Then there are the people that think they are obligated to having a credit card which is not true. It is all based off credit history and what that FINANCIAL INSTITUTIONS regulations are for when issuing credit lines. SERIOUSLY PEOPLE, YOU ARE GETTING MAD OVER SOMETHING THAT REALLY IS ALMOST ON YOU BECAUSE PEOPLE DO NOT READ WHAT THEY ARE GETTING THEMSELVES INTO. ALSO BY THE WAY THEY ARE ALLOWED TO PUT A PAYMENT ON HOLD. THERE IS A FEDERAL REGULATION THAT DOES STATE THAT ANY FINANCIAL INSTITUTION CAN PUT A PAYMENT ON HOLD FOR 7 - 10 BUSINESS DAYS. Yes BUSINESS DAYS. I work in a financial institution (Bank) and that is legal for them to do. so some people really need to stop complaining about there payment being on hold or getting a change in terms because all of banks are doing it. Bank of america, citi, wells fargo, capital one. they are all apart of it. Quite frankly i feel that most people that dont know how to handle a credit card or atleast read the terms and conditions should not be able to have one because they are not being responsible and reading all account materials they recieve when opening the account.

RE: Juniper_Shame_On_You

I am sorry but you really must think the arkansas general is the ruler of any financial institution in the United States. Sorry but no. Not a single general is going to be able to close a financial institution that is known all around the world. maybe you should do some research on the companies before you go around telling people all they have to do is write enough complaints and 1 state attorny general will get them closed. I am sorry but i feel that you are in complete denial and you dont understand how big a financial institution barclays is. And barclays bought out juniper so maybe you should research that as well.

RE: BARCLAYS/JUNIPER CARD

THIS BANK SUCKS. I just got hit with a late fee for paying my payments too early, what the heck. You would think that these banks would want their money on time and early.
I was told that my payment was credited to the previous month and not the current month. I hate this credit card company and if anyone says that this company is OK, just wait, you may be next. I am now paying a interest rate of 27%, robbery I tell you. I asked to speak to a Supervisor and was told that they were too busy. They will be speaking to a lawyer soon, I have two in the family. I think that we should all get together and form an alliance. I have excellent credit and have never had a credit card company screw me over like this one. My crime, paying my bill too early. I will make every effort to pay them off early. We must stand up to them and make our Attorney Generals earn their BUCKS. This company is like a VAMPIRE, sucking the blood out of you and leaving you financially dead. BE AFRAID TO USE THIS BANK, BE VERY AFRAID.

Juniper/Barclay Bank of Delaware

I wish I would have read my agreement or have done a little research on Google prior to accepting this account! Boy am I paying for it now!

DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES OPEN AN ACCOUNT WITH JUNIPER/BARCLAY BANK OF DELAWARE.

I was happy to have gotten 8.9%. I had a late payment once, they held an electronic payment and that was considered by second late payment. I ended up with an interest rate of 29.99% then they reduced my available credit, so they that I could reach my credit limit faster and they could start charging me over the limit fees in addition to 29.99% interest on the account.

I was told that if I made consecutive and timely payments, after six months they would review my account and lower the interest rate. After eight months and many phones calls to them, they lowered the interest one 1/4 point! Shameful!

In addition, every time I called and asked to speak to a manager, they would tell me that their managers were busy at the time. They speak like robots, going around in circles, telling you the same thing over and over again.

I was warned that if I closed my account, the interest rate would go up to 30.24% and if I opted out it would remain 29.24% for the life of the account until I payed the balance off.

How could they get away with this? Don't we have an attorney general for this?

Barclays Band Stinks

I have had 4 operations in the last two years; lost two jobs because of it and I'm finishing up a divorce. I wrote to Barclay's bank and told them I am in a desperate situation. I have been sending them token payments in good faith and they still harass me by mail and by phone. I let them know that upon notification in California a creditor must cease and desist harassment. It's the only credit card I have and they don't seem to get it, so I'll just go bankrupt and use debit cards. I may also sue them under the Federal Consumer Protection Law through the Delaware Attorney General.

No loan sharks

I too have or should I say had a juniper card. started 9.99% fixed, I was never late or over the limit. had card for about 4 years. perfect!!!! first intrest went up to 14.99% this I found out 2 days after the bill reflected such. Then the goverment stepped in saying they have to give you notice. Here it is aug. and they changed it again. flexible rate. I called it was late. I got a lady in the phillapines and kids were crying and talking in the back ground!!!! I canceled my card right then. I have to ask was she at home? with the kids and my ss#???? NO one would answer me or give me a number where I could speak to someone about this situation. A contract is a contract I did not break my end they should not be able to change it at a fart. Then I have to ask is this a bail out bank? Why
is someone on a small island handleing customer service for the usa? Why should we put up with this?? How many of us are out of work in the USA? I know I would do this job?
We are paying their wages through the intrest. The profits of theese companys was just on the news, I could not beleive the crock story thety gave me over the phone of why this was happening.I paid my bill too well!!! thats what my discovery card told me. When the dropped my credit
from 2800. to $300. Whats up with this?? They were asked if we were gonna fix this publicly or if they would like to do it privately. The response was none. All I wanted was to speak to the guy who signed my letter. NO was the response. SO here we are PUBLIC!!!!PUBLIC!! They made their choice.

RE: Barclays Bank/Juniper

well mr. banker what do you have to say about your private
info in a private home in another country. I called and a lady answered with a crying baby in the back ground and a toddler screaming mommy. On some island some where.
I agree if you break a contract then there should be a punishment. But If you are a good customer with a good track record there has to be some loyalty. without the customer there is no company. I say changes come with verbal exspession and negotiations.
I now all those job that they sent to the philipines
could make a difference in my town. MO has a very high unemployment rate right now. I dont think any of this was in the fine micro-script. Also I read my contact but I dont have 23 years of collage educataion to understand it as congress stated.
I can see no reasons for selling out the amerian work force or shareing our ss# with another country. Idenity theift is out of this world. so ship my personal info across the world that makes me really safe.

Stay away from Juniper/Barclays Bank

This bank is crooked!!! I was late once (my mom died suddenly and i had to be out of town). I wouldn't have been late either if they had not changed my due date quite suddenly! They were nice enuf to remove the late charges, but 2 years later, they raised my interest rate over 20%! After fighting and arguing, I paid off the balance with my husband's check over the phone. Got a confirmation email. Then 2 weeks later, they sent an email as if it hadn't been paid! We called my husband's bank (after more arguing with Barclay and them claiming it was my husband's account that was to blame) and barclay had never even tried to get the money. Barclay said it was our bank that had refused the funds!!! They are liars. The only way you get a supervisor is to curse and scream. I for one, don't care what the nationalilty of the customer rep is as long as their desk is in the US where I can file a police report if need be. This is terrible - i have never been treated so horribly and disrespectfully. By the way, i was no where near my limit!

RE: Stay away from Juniper/Barclays Bank

BEWARE!!!! Barclay Bank will rip you off. I have perfect credit and got an offer in the mail for a 0% interest until next year. I called and accepted the offer and they told me my limit was for $10,000. We are in the process of remodeling and needed extra funds to finish our project. We knew we would be paying a $50 transaction fee to utilize this offer. However, in all the years I have been doing business with banks and have achieved my perfect credit, did they ever hold the transaction fee over your head included in your limit with them. In otherwords, if you took the max, you paid for the funds and the fee, but never was the fee included to make your credit limit seem like it was over. We were never warned that to utilize the 10k and once they added on the $50 fee, we would be over our limit. Again, I have never dealt with this kind of deceit. We always paid our fee and then our balance, but was never punished because with the fee we went over our limit. Now, they keep adding on $39 over the limit fees and by the time you realize that they have tacked on the over limit fee and try to fix it, you are into the next statement period and charged an additional $39. We paid our bill on time and the minimum stated and because they tacked on another $39 it took us over the limit again. Now, I receive a letter stating that since I have been over the limit, my rating is going from 0% up to 27.24% all because of their fees they keep adding on. We never took one penny more than what they stated our limit was, but because of all of their ridiculous fees that add up one on top of another that takes you over your limit. They fail to tell you when you sign up that you should only borrow $9950 because $50 of that credit limit is designed to pay the transfer fee. We walked in blind and thought the $10K was allowed and just would pay the fee. That is how all of my other cards are. Totally disgusted and needless to say we are paying it off and will NEVER bank with Barclay's again.

RE: Stay away from Juniper/Barclays Bank

P.S. When I called to inquire about all of this, a lady in the Phillipians would not help me and I demanded to talk to a supervisor and was given to a man who also was not willing to help. I asked for a phone number of the US based Barclay's and he said he did not have one and they only communicate through email and fax!!!! They do not communicate via phone with any of their colleagues in the US. What a crock!!!! In otherwords, he was unwilling to help guide me to someone who could or would be willing to answer to theses atrocities in over the limit fees that they continue to tack on when not one time did we go over our limit, but all their ridiculous fees caused us to go over. I didn't get my perfect credit by being irresponsible with my other credit cards. I was TOTALLY floored by this bank's irresponsibility.
They have lost me and we are thinking of a lawsuit.
BEWARE!!!!! I can't state that enough.

Not Pleased with Juniper

I googled Juniper this morning to see if others have been experiencing the same or similar problems as my husband and I did. After reading all of the comments, I realize that we are not alone in having concerns about Juniper. In October, I sent what I thought would be the final payment to Juniper — over $600. My husband and I decided to do this due to the big hike in the interest rate we experienced recently. As I have done for the past 18 months, the payment was sent via my on line banking (through my bank), eight business days before the payment was due. According to my bank, payments to Juniper needed to be sent five days in advance. I allowed an additional three days just to make sure it got to them on time. Last night we received two phone calls from Juniper saying that we didn't make a payment in October. We also received a statement that didn't show our final payment as having been paid and of course because of this, we were charged a $39.00 late fee in addition to finance charges at 27%! We explained to them that the final payment was sent on 10/16/09. They told us that they did not receive any payment in October and therefore, a payment was still due and a late fee was assessed. We checked our bank and could clearly see that the money was deducted from our account on 10/16/09. We inquired further to learn that Juniper "cashed" the money on 10/27/09, one day before it was due. I'm sorry but I just find it too ironic that our final payment, the payment that means they will no longer receive finance charges mysteriously does not post? It seems to be a very deliberant move on their part in an attempt to collect more finance charges and an additional late payment fee. When we called customer service, we get a million questions to verify information that they already have on file. Very annoying! When we finally get to the part of why we called, she listens only to tell us that they didn't receive payment and that we need to send them a copy of our bank statement so that we can prove we paid it! We asked to speak to a supervisor. He was nice enough, told us that he was putting in a dispute claim that would take five to seven days. He then had the nerve to say that if we don't hear from them within seven days, we were to contact them. I told him that as far as we were concerned, we made the payment on time and in full and therefore we consider this issue to be closed and that I expected to hear from them within seven days. I still can't believe that a customer who paid the balance before it was due has to go through their hoops to prove it was paid. I don't believe that they can't see it was paid. I will never recommend Juniper credit card to any one. Not ever!

RE: BARCLAYS/JUNIPER CARD

My situation is exactly like{ plasticman62}. I too paid my bill before it was due and for more than the amount more , and my reward for being a good customer? a $39 late fee and jump from an intro rate of 0% to a default rate of 25.24%! As for their " relationship manager" a flat and oft repeated.." we are only following bank guidelines and can not waive the fee" Her supervisor had the same story, gave me "Executive Offices" address to write to. After finding this site I guess it won't do any good to even try.It seems they are all on auto pilot.I will certainly tell anyone I can to stay away from this bank.
