CHASE - Boo
We've had numerous problems wiht Chase in the past that I won't even go into here.
My husband has a Chase Mastercard. It is mainly our emergency go to card so we pay it off as soon as we can.
We paid the entire balance off a year ago (Jan 06)after carrying a balance that was close to the credit limit for a about 7 months. Shortly after paying the card off we charged on it and paid it in full every month. No problems.
Then we had some unexpected car repair expenses 2 months in a row and the balance went up...so did his interest rate. OK fine. Our credit overall has a low score so it was kind of understandable. To our credit, in the past 2 years we have never been late on this card or any others for that matter.
My husband is active duty military and deployed in August. In November I took his deployment pay and paid off most of the bill for him. In December I only had about $75 left to pay and did.
Here's the kicker...I get the bill statement this month for January. Of course it has a 0 balance BUT the interest rate went UP to almost 83%!!!! OMG!! What a way to treat a customer in good standing.
This just seals the deal that I will never use JP Morgan/Chase EVER again for anything. After all the torubles we've had with them most of which were not our fault, my family too has cancelled or at least quit using their Chase managed products. |

effective annual interest NOT
Everyone should check the amount of interest against the effective annual interest rate reported by Chase. They have dishonest policies which I haven't seen in other credit cards.
I found that my actual annualized interest rate was sometimes as much as 2x what they reported.
This was without any unusual circumstances, such as cash advances or special deals, or transfers.
I reported them to the BBB. |

Goodbye Chase
Goodbye Chase. You raised our 7.9% rate to 22.24%. Told us we were a credit risk. This despite not ONE delinquent monthly payment and always above the minimum. Even paid $1000 extra recently.
You told us today (2-16-07) that you let us know in December, even gave us the exact date. It was included in the 17,000 word disclosure treatise, in print so small my eyeglasses raised the white flag. We do our banking with you on-line and I'm guessing you know that. Do you think you might have noted that on our on-line statement page?
We're paying you off tonight. Saying goodbye. But you won't be forgotten. Any opportunity that presents itself will find us sharing the relief we feel that this ride is over. |

Bad Debt
Man, that's terrible! I have taken advantage of a lot of those 0% balance transfers over the past several years and haven't had any trouble, but it's something that I'll certainly keep in mind -- thanks!
By the way, I came across a decent personal finance blog and it has some decent reading on credit card debt: musings on personal finance |

Ripped off by CHASE
I got an offer from CHASE USA to bring all my other card balances to them for 12% for 12 months. I did and within a month the rate was raised to 27%, then to 29%
I called them and basically they blew me off. I refued to pay until they honored their agreement. On my other CHASE CARD I paid the balance off after a phone call for the total. I got a bill within a week showing a $4.00 balance.
I sent in the $4.00 but before it got there they charged me a $39 late fee. I called them and again was told basically...."too bad".
I again refused to pay their extortion and demanded they remove the late charge. The next month they charged another "late fee of $39.00" AND an additonal "renewal fee" of $29.00. I told them I would honor my commitment but refused to be ripped off....
They let the late charges run up on the $4.00 credit card ballance to over $400 then added it to the other bill of $3000....for a CHASE USA total of ... $9314.65.
Then they filled a judgement against me. A credit card with a $3000 limit, and another with a $4.00 balance became a $9314.65 Judgement.
Previously the people at Chase told me they wouldn't take off the unfair late charges nor would they lower the rate to honor their agreement. They sent me an offer and I called them. When I asked if I pay this offer will everything be removed from my credit report. They said no, it was already charged off.
Apparently, CHASE USA charges off the credit card amount after they run it up as far as they can with late fees. Then they sell it to some attorney for collection.
You get screwed by CHASE, they trash your credit report, then they turn you over to some shyster low-life attorney who files a judgement against you. You get burned all the way down the line. If you get the right person they'll admit even if you pay it off they won't remove it off your credit report.
STAY AWAY FROM CHASE USA

RE: Good luck...
I have had a similar experience with Chase. I missed a payment (first time in four years doing business with them)due to not receiving it in the mail. The interest jumped to 29.99%. I know that that is in the agreement however when I called to speak to somebody I kept getting misinformation and the run around. They have the worst customer service operation I ever experienced. They are rude people and the CEO of this company should be ashamed of what is going on. I would gladly go on National TV to tell my story.
I will be sure to tell at least one person each day about my bad experience. |

Senate hearing
Today, Wednesday, March 7th, the U.S. Senate will host the CEOs of Chase, Citi and Bank of America. Let's hope it's not all talk. |

RE: Chase Bank experience
I am a broke college kid. Most of my cash goes in the account, and right back out. Last year, I opened an account with Chase bank, because they're nationwide, and because of Hurricane Katrina, my mom couldn't withdraw money from her local bank in New Orleans, LA. I deposited $500 immediately into the account, and shortly thereafter (a couple of months) was down to under $50. Back in school, I began noticing several charges appearing, stuff like "processing fee." Usually, when my account got low, they'd charge a "processing fee" that would zero my account out. Having been fed up with their NSF program, I decide to cancel my account, and sign on with my mom's bank. Within 20 minutes of cancelling my account, I received 2 text messages exclaiming that my now-nonexistent account is severely overdrawn. $322.48 in overdraft fees within 2 days.
Called in several times to customer service, all with an attitude and a mysterious inability to provide any explanation.
Went to the local branch and almost had security called on me because the customer service manager pushed me to become belligerent. I eventually had to pay the $322, should've paid a lawyer. |

overdraft scam
I moved cross-country from Chicago to LA over one weekend. I made a deposit late on a Friday night to my account that more than covered the moving expenses.
Without this deposit, I would not have had enough for this move, but such is the nature of setting up a crosscountry move when you live check to check.
During said weekend, I used my debit card for all of my gas and motel purchases, and kept all of my receipts. I was not denied for 13 different charges to my checking account.
Monday morning, when I arrived in LA, I checked my balance, and the records showed my account to be accurate with my receipts and records. The next day, I attempted to make a small purchase at a local retailer, only to have my debit card declined.
I found out that I was into Chase for $225, with 13 different $35 charges for each 'overdraw' on my checking account, totalling $455 in fees! That's a combined $680.
They processed my deposit AFTER they processed each and every transaction over the weekend. They then hid behind their 'clearance time' clause when I called them, a phone call that ended with a VERY rude customer service slug yelling 'F--- you!'
I called back, and was transferred almost immediately to their legal department, who stonewalled me with the same argument as the slug... my deposit on Friday evening somehow cleared AFTER all my weekend charges on Saturday and Sunday.
This clause is more or less a catch-all for when they feel like charging fees to people who haven't been profitable enough for them. What's worse, there are no Chase banks in LA, so the phone was my ONLY way to communicate with these yet-to-be-convicted criminals.
The most disgusting thing about this, though, is that I had to pay it. These people have power over my credit and actively used shady legal tricks to avoid accountability.
There's something wrong with a system that allows banks to hold consumers accountable for false clerical offenses, but doesn't allow consumers to hold a bank accountable for genuine crimes that ruin lives.
Sickening... |

Chase credit cards - THIEVES
I JUST got off the phone with Chase customer service trying to get my complete pay-off so that I can do away with them completely and I asked to be explained exactly how I was being assessed finance charges. The rude idiot of a CSR tells me they can't explain it. She tells me was I was assessed last month and that it was being assessed daily but could not give me the 'How' it is calculated. I asked for an exact algorithm. Or to speak to someone who CAN explain it to me.
It's enough they bumped my rate to 29.99% but now they can't even explain to me how they calculate my finance charges... This has got to be illegal! I explain that I am trying to pay it off today - she tells me I can overpay them to be safe! WTF!!!!!!! I'm currently being assessed over $300 a month right now and they can't explain to me HOW they get that number!!! What can I do? Who can I talk to? |

Chase
I am right there with you re: Chase, its credit card practices, customer service, etc.!
Won't bore you with details -- let's just say that in spite of my paying more than the minimum per month regularly, in Jan '06 they more than doubled my interest rate which more than doubled my monthly payments!!!! You can well imagine the hardship this imposed! And NOTHING I said, did, wrote, or stated firmly made a difference. They would NOT budge on their stance that I was a credit risk!!! [how much of a risk is it to pay on time, and more than the minimum??????? -- sheesh]
Another thing: when my husband died, he had three cards with Chase!!! -- all in his name - two with zero balance, one with a substantial balance -- Chase attempted to dun me for the charges although the majority of them preceded our marriage and there was no estate because he died suddenly and unexpectedly and we were totally unprepared financially........it took many phone calls and two letters before they backed off. Additionally they "manufactured" charges on the other two cards and it took more letters and threats of legal action to get them to back off!
In the end, since I was getting stone-walled in getting credit cards in my name due to the snafu over his leaving no estate and thus open debt, I reluctantly agreed to pay off the balance if they would put the card in my name. Naturally they did this willingly [they wanted their money regardless] -- additionally they re-issued another of his zero balance cards in my name. THEN I discovered, to my dismay, when they merged with whomever it was they merged with, that the one credit card I had in my name was now a Chase card!!!! -- fortunately the low interest rate on that one stayed the same and I was able to use the card sparingly, paying it off regularly, thus avoiding that humungous interest that the other Chase cards charged! [Personally I've found it ridiculous that credit cards have become so important to our lives -- they are nothing but trouble for the most part - witness what we've all experienced with Chase! I do, however, like the debit card but then I do the majority of my banking with a credit union rather than someone like Chase!]
One of the letters I wrote Chase was to one of their Vice Presidents - you know the name and title listed on the bottom of all those "offerings you can't refuse" letters they send out? That particular letter was VERY politely scathing - quoting customer service rep's attitudes, exact conversations, etc.........doubt it accomplished anything with Chase, but it sure helped me feel better!!!
Last year, just before their merger, I applied for and received a home equity loan from Chase --- which enabled me to pay off the two major credit cards -- but it was one of those ARM's and in spite of switching to a fixed rate last summer, I continue to get nasty calls from them claiming I owe more than I do --- this situation remains problematic to this day - in spite of countless calls, a couple of more letters, etc.
Chase and the other major financial institutions who are charging excessive interest and finding sneaky ways to wring more moeny from us, are very similar to the usurers of the past.
With the changes in our economy, I shudder to think of what will happen next!!!!

Terrible Customer Service
There is something just downright dishonest in what Chase bank is doing to bring people in. They are advertising their cards to be used in ATM's but they ABSOLUTELY don't tell you about the $10 service fee that they will stick you with after you've done it a couple of times (and accumulated $30 in fees) of course, by that time they couldn't care less if you close your account.
FIND A DIFFERENT CREDIT CARD COMPANY... Chase is crooked. |

Need Chase Corporate Address
I too have a complaint with Chase and would like to send a letter to the Corporate Office to try and resolve. Does anyone know what the Corporate mailing Address is? What about a phone number and/or e-mail. I got lost in all of their webpages so I figured I would try another way to get help.
After reading the complaints listed on this website, I don't expect much success but I would like to give them the benefit of the doubt and see how far I get with them.
One of my counter options is if they will research and resolve my complaint, I will not repeat my issue to anyone else or post any opinion on the Internet.
Please advice As soon as possible and Wish me luck. |

Did Chase even send a bill?!
I'm wondering if anyone else suspects that Chase purposely fails to send bills once in a while. For the second time in the past year, I've received a bill from Chase indicating that the last month's bill is overdue. Of course, there is a finance charge. My wife and I are very careful to always pay our bills on time. We have a few credit cards, but we have almost never carried a balance on any of them (never on the Chase card), paying everything off each month. I use my Chase card for business, so my wife (who manages our finances) doesn't go through each item on that bill herself, but when it arrives, she is careful to note the amount due and the due date and to pass it on to me. We are so careful that in over 13 years of marriage we have never missed a payment on any sort of bill for any reason. Twice in one year, however, we have missed payments to Chase because we never received a bill. Of course, we cannot prove that they did not send us one, but knowing their reputation and our history, I have good reason to be suspicious. It seems to me that they've done this because we always pay everything off each month and they want to make sure they get at least some money out of us. I'd like to keep this card because it's tied into a deal with Amazon where I get points for books, but I might cancel it anyway. Of course, we'll now be more careful to note if no bill arrives from Chase, but for now, I'd like to know if anyone else has had the same experience and shares the same suspicion. |

RE: Chase Bank experience
I have been a chase credit card holder for a long time, and recently had a huge falling out with them. I warn you that there company, Chase doesn't honor their commitments, offers special financing and then doesn't honor the APR rate and hits you with a huge finance charge. The deceptive part is that we called them while a vendor was processing the card and they okd a purchase and then hit us with a huge increase because we were overlimit. Unbelievable. I will never do business with them again. I am very happy with American Express and Discover and when I was late with a payment with them, they were very forgiving. Please don't use chase.

How I took revenege at Chase Bank
I, too have experienced Chase Bank's wonderful customer service representatives, with their extensive knowledge of cue cards (LOL). I recently closed two zero interest accounts not realizing that the introduction rate had expired and was subject to massive interest payment. That really is my own fault, not the banks. But what is sneaky they is the trailing interest.
When I called to closed the account, I inquired asked for the final balance. They couldn't tell me exactly because the amount was calculated daily. I asked 'what if I'm leaving the country and want to closed the account, and am not able to return or reply to future communications - like if I was to go to Iraq and circumstances prevented my return... 'sorry the Chase Bank can't tell you the amount owed until the end of the billing cycle.'
Even a blinking loan shark can tell you what you owe tomorrow, and come the day after he's your uncle, willing to lend you more. But Chase doesn't have the computational resources available to calculate that!
So, just to spin their wheels, I figured I'd settle the final bill of $8 USD in a way to cause pain: I went to one teller with a handful of pennies; to three others with three separate checks; and then made an online transaction with a 0.03 overpayment (originally I was going to write 50 checks, but felt bad for the tellers).
And so I am owed a refund check! The way I figure, each transction and paper costs them something. In the end I get some personal satisfaction by spinning their wheels and shuffling paper around. When I receive the check, I'll waste more of the bank's time I will ask the local branch manager to cash it eventhough I don't have an account... |

CHASE is a TOTAL RIPP OFF
My wife and I did a balance transfer of 8,000.00 for 1 year at a 0% interest rate. For the first few months everything was fine. Then we get there statement saying we were late 1 day on our payment and they removed us off the special rate of 0% to a 8.99. My wife and i have never made a late payment ever. They may have posted it late, but we were not. We think that they do this randomly to other people so they can charge you with late charges and higher interest payments. This is how they make there money. This is against the law. They should be shut down! We're contacting the state attorney generals office, the better business bureau, and whoever else we can think of, and filing a major complaint against them. CHASE is a bad risk! Don't ever do business with crooks as they'll rob you blind!!! The CEO Jaime Dimon should be ashamed to be running a den of thieves!! |

Bad, Bad,Chase Bank
Don't accept a credit card with Chase Bank...I had one for over 3 years and never paid late. All of a sudden they popped my rate up to 24%. The worst part about this was for over 4.5 months they lied to me and said they were going to re-price my account back down to the original 7.99% I had to beging with.
It's one thing to increase the rate, which they can do if they want to, however, shame on them when they train their employees to decieve their customers.
Shame on you, Chase Bank. |
