Same here, may be even worse
I opened my chase credit card in 2001 at a rate of 6.99% apr. Since then there was one late payment which was not even 30days late. Alwayse paid on time and most of the time more than minimum. Now my apr is 29.99% too. They actually had sent me letter of notification to raise it to 32.99%.
I wrote back and told them that I will complain with the office of Attorney General because this is criminal and may be discrimination because they agree to increase my credit limit when I was making 20K less than what I make now. SO they still riased it from 24.99% to 29.99% and thier customer service talk about it as if they did a favor to me by not increasing it up to 32.99%.

RE: ANYONE ELSE BEING RIPPED OFF BY CHASE BANK?
I know you posted a long time ago about wanting to sue chase. I have also experienced the same thing with chase where they rearrange your transactions and screw you out of money. I wish I knew how much money i have lost to them over a period of a year. Chase is a very crooked bank. I don't understand why for a long time they were posting my debits before my credits at midnight and then screwing me out of money and then all of the sudden they now post credits before debits again. They are soooo crooked. |

RE: I echo these experiences---amazed that a class action suit hasn't happened yet
I, too, have been a victim of Chase's abusive and unethical business practices regarding rate increases for prime borrowers who haven't been late with payments, and am very interested in pursuing a class action suit against them.
In 12/07, I opened my latest Visa card statement, and was shocked to see an interest rate of 21+%. I immediately called them, and was subjected to the rudest obnoxious collections people (I tried to get to customer service, but everytime I keyed in my account number; I was sent to collections.) I persisted until I got to speak to several Customer Service personnel including a couple of supervisors. I was told that the reason for the rate increase was that I hadn't responded to a letter (I never received one) asking me to contact them to discuss my credit report. I was told that a recent credit review showed that I owed more money this year than I had last year, and they were concerned. BTW,my payments were all made on time, and always were more than the minimum. I was even asked what I spent the money on!!!
I was told that the rate would be reduced back to the original rate, but that never happened. A few weeks later the dunning calls started, and the new bill showed up. This time I was told that the rate would not be reduced, and that now the rate was going to 29.99%. The rep was so nasty and abusive that I requested Corporate contact info, and asked to speak to her supervisor. I did receive a phone call a few days later from her supervisor who assured me that the rate would be reduced back to the original rate, and that I would receive a letter in 7-10 days to that effect. I just received a letter stating that I am now in default because the payments I made were insufficient. They are adding the erroneous interest charges to the payment even though they are supposed to be making the adjustment, and I am now like a dog chasing my tail as far as making the correct payment.
The most recent bill shows that my payment is now $615/mo (this was for a 12K credit limit that should now be around $10k). I have perfect credit and would like to keep it that way, but Chase is doing their best to send their prime borrowers into default. This needs to stop. I have read the other posts about Chase, and think it is time for all of us to band together and stop these abusive business practices. |

Chase Bank
Wait! There's More! My husband just joined Chase Bank and then he used their "bill pay" service. He found out that the bank actually takes the money out of the account at the time you write order the check! Does anyone have any idea how illegal this is? I will name a few of the reasons.
1) IT is the bank doing EXACTLY what they are charging their customers for doing - kiting checks! They are dipping into customer funds 10-15 days prior to the funds necessarily being drawn out.
2) By pre-paying themselves, there is a check out in the universe that is as good as any money order. The bank no longer carries an interest in who gets it, who cashes it or where it goes from there.
3) A check that is written is NOT the same thing as a check that is negotiated.
The bank has a fiduciary duty to the people to whom it holds funds. Taking money out of account holders to use for their own purpose until the money actually becomes designated by a negotiated instrument is a breach of their duties to protect our money. By this standard, exponentially multiplying my husband's experience by a few million - they can build buildings and play the market and do whatever they want until the money is called back into account. How irresponsible is this?
The biggest problem with this is simply that the pencil pushing college graduate Bill Gates wanna-be who figured out this scam, sold it to his decision makers and probably got promoted. They realize that it is illegal, but someone figured out that even if they get away with it for a couple of months or even a year - it will increase their bottom line. These people who dream up these scams seem to not realize that they too are consumers and when they do this, they screw with their own consumer rights.
We need to find a good class action attorney - we are in Michigan. Chase Bank seems to be everywhere east of the Mississippi.

Chase Bank fees
"INSUFFICIENT FUNDS FEE" (IFF) is not something I ever liked seeing but saw more than a few times on my Chase checking report. I don't keep a lot in that account because it is an account for buying or paying for specific things. My primary checking and savings is not with Chase.
I began to notice something very funny about those "Insufficient Funds Fee" thingees with Chase, though. At one point I was sure something fishy was going on so I resolved to pay better attention.
One of the things I suspected was that if you have, say, 3 transactions on a weekend and the last transaction puts your account into overdraft, the one that put you into overdraft is placed BEFORE the other two transactions in your account history (as if it had been charged first) when everything finally posts. Like:
Wendy's: $20.00 (Charged Sat Afternoon)
K-Mart: $15.00 (Charged Sat Morn)
Books A Million: $30.00 (Charged Sunday night)
The Books A Million being the one that puts you into overdraft.
This is important to realize because now you get hit with 2 or 3 insufficient funds fees instead of just the one. Only the last charge was an overdraft. Putting that overdrafting charge before the other two in the transaction list, despite it being the last purchase you made, allows the bank to penalize you those extra amounts.
This last weekend I overdrafted again due to a totally unexpected automated billing. This time, however, I caught Chase in the act.
I got on-line, checked my account, saw no pending charges, made sure of my available balance, and went and made an on-line purchase. I then logged back into my Chase account, checked my balance and transactions again, saw my new purchase listed in the pending charge list, and printed that out.
The next day (Sat) I went to the ATM to get a few bucks out of my Chase account and wonders upon wonders: Overdrafted because of that unexpected charge.
I deposited enough into the Chase account to cover the overdraft amount, plus some. I then used my card for 2 minor purchases on the next day, Sunday.
On Monday I check my balance, no problem. On Tuesday morning no problem. On Wednesday morning... overdrafted. I immediately put money into that account to cover it, plus some (again). I printed out my account on-line each day and kept every ATM slip.
This morning I find my balance is very low. I check the transactions. There are now two $64.00 IFFs. 1 transaction only, remember, was an overdraft. I was charged for 4.
Why? My posted transaction list looked sort of like this, top charges the most recent posted to the account:
IFF: $64.00 (showed up this morning)
DEPOSIT $100.00 (Weds Morning)
Exxon: $3.00 (Sunday Purchase)
McD's: $4.00 (Sunday Purchase)
IFF: $64.00 (showed up Weds morning)
DEPOSIT: $150.00 (Sat Morning)
On-Line Purchase: $50.00 (Thurs/Fri AM purchase)
Bongo Software: $74.30 (Hit later Friday)
The Bongo charge (the overdraft) came in AFTER the on-line purchase, not before. The Exxon and McD's were BEFORE the first IFF was charged to my account. The second IFF was for those two little charges that were not overdrafts until the first IFF got posted.
I went to the bank this morning. They told me there was nothing they could do and that I was wrong in my estimations. They did... until I pulled out all my ATM slips and print-outs from the last 8 days.
The $128 is now back in my account.
I'll still be faxing copies of my records to my State's Attorney General |

RE: Chase Mortgage Handlings
This past fall I completed a Chapter 13 Bankruptcy and received my Discharge Notice from the Court. At that time I began asking Chase for an accounting of moneys the Court paid them for arrears requesting specific information on how these payments reduced the principle due on my loan.
Chase delayed months in responding and when they did their responses were curious at best.
1) Chase informed me that I was in fact behind in my payments to them. When sent a payment history indicating all payments had been made, Chase informed me that simply paying the amount requested on the mortgage loan statements I have been sent does not ensure correct payments are being made.
2) Chase has informed me that they in fact never received any payments from the Court and requested I write the Court to see if in fact they ever sent any payments to Chase. I did this and the Court has sent me a detailed transaction history of the payments they made, and checks cashed by Chase.
3) Chase is currently attempting to collect on debts discharged by the Court, and additionally Chase has initiated foreclosure proceedings against my home.
4) Chase at no time made any objections to the Court, its Trustee, my attorneys or myself about missing payments during the course of my bankruptcy, and filled no objections at its close.
The only objection Chase seems to have is in accounting for where the money has gone. My attorneys were forwarded my letter to the Court and they informed me that the absence of a motion for relief for post petition arrears does not mean that all post petition payments were made. They also said that the absence of an objection to discharge does not mean all post petition payments were made.
The attorneys that handled my bankruptcy, technically having concluded the services contracted for, have suggested I hire counsel to assist me and advise me of my rights.
I believe it is against the law to attempt to collect debts discharged under a Chapter 13 Bankruptcy Court. Further, I believe that hiding payments made by the Court from me is against the law.
I have sent extensive documentation back to Chase indicating inconsistencies in their reporting of my account by them, but at this writing have had no response save for an ACT 91 Notice being sent from their collection department. Even that notice contains flawed data, which I reported back to them on.
Chase is extremely difficult to deal with, and the stress that they cause is profound.

get away from chase, any way you can
I am also someone who has had a Chase Credit Card for many years and recently was zapped with the absurdly high interest rate of 29.9%.
This solution is what I did, and may be an option for some of you. If you have a 401K or other retirement account, and you don't have a better alternative, you may want to use your 401k to pay off the credit card. You pay taxes and a 10% penalty when you withdraw money from your 401k, but when you are paying 30% interest on $8000 or more, it might be worth it. I know it felt better losing my money to the government than it would have to let Chase Bank continue to suck my bank account dry.
29.9% interest!!!!
Don't stand for it.
Do everything you can to end your current and all future interactions with any company that is so deceitful.
Warn Others.

Chase & Affiliates Should be in Jail
Without too much nonessential detail. Chase has basically raised my interest rate from 11.9 to 29.95% without warning after years of solid payments. Calls, requests and attempts to regain good standing were given the same "we are very sorry" lip service, I closed the account but they continue to charge interest and late fees. Another call and again were sorry but..... Basically I will NEVER do business with Any Chase bank or affiliate. I truly beleive they are intentionally decieving customers. BE WARNED.... These are BAD PEOPLE..... I wish there were a way to give back to them what they dish out.... |

Ready to Take Action Now!!!
I am ready to file suit against Chase bank, for various reasons, most of which have already been mentioned in previous posts. If anyone is interested, please place a post online and I will contact you to discuss action. This is no joke! They are criminals & I want them to burn for what they have done to good, consistent, paying customers nation-wide. |

Chase Bank almost got my family killed!!!!!
I had an account 15 years with Bank One, which later became Chase / Manhattan.
I was getting gas to evacuate my family and ready to leave south Houston on Wed 10 Sept 2009 before Hurricane Ike made landfall (due on Friday the 12th). I swiped my card, and it was declined (at about 10 PM) I called the 1 800 number and they said my account was reported to fraud. I contacted fraud and they said they are closing my account and Chase doesn't want to do business with me anymore. I am not pending any criminal or other actions, I pay my bills on time, ect. They also closed not just my checking account, but all of my accounts.
I was stuck, no money, food or clean drinking water and have 4 children (aged 12, 10, 7, and 1 1/2)
I always just use my card, and don't carry cash.
The storm came and 4 large trees fell within 30 feet of my family (hiding in a closet). we had 90 mile per hour winds and was hit hardest in Houston for wind. Then it was 2 weeks without gas, water, power. Now all my bills are bouncing - EVEN THOUGH THERE IS MORE THAN SUFFICIENT AMOUNT IN THE FROZEN ACCOUNTS!! Chase won't cancel the direct pays, and the companies say the bank has to. PLUS as an added bonus, I can't get my money for 3 weeks minimum until they review and close my account. My children are sick and I can't even take them to a doctor, much less drive them there because I cannot access my money.
I would have never subjected my children to these dangerous conditions and don't appreciate how they did this action, without reason or warning.
While at the bank, I met a very elderly lady they shut down as well, freezing her social security, deceased husband's pension check, and of course her money. She had been banking at this same location for 47 years!!
For anyone who has a problem these are some useful numbers!
I am using them to file a major complaint and seeking legal assistance at the moment.

Circuit City - Chase Bank
NEVER AGAIN will I ever have anything to do with Chase bank which is currently owned by JP Morgan, I believe. It is the biggest a****** among all the banks I have dealt with. I have been using Circuit City card for special long term financing and I haven't been late for almost the entire term of the special purchase. Recently, I was only a few days late on a payment and CHASE immediately charged my account for almost $400 of accrued interest, the amount that was accrued from the date of the purchase on the original principle. I immediately called and was told by the rep that there have been others who were in the same situation and were charged THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS of interest but "a manager" would be able to do something about it. However, he/she would have to call me back. Of course, I had to call back to follow up after a few days. I insisted on speaking with a manager this time and was spoken to by a rude a****** who arbitrarily offered a $60 reduction with a take it or leave it attitude. I declined the offer of the $60 reduction and decided to cancel the card. I went to the store to make the last payment to pay off my balance ($850 including the $400) and told an assistant manager there that there would be no incentive for me to ever buy anything from Circuit City anymore. Frankly, THERE IS NOTHING AT CIRCUIT CITY THAT CAN'T BE FOUND ON LINE FOR LESS. The only reason I would pay extra before was because of the free financing. Being robbed $400, I would never touch their free financing gimmick again. While I know it was a mute effort to talk about the experience, it was worthwhile to learn that the only person who really benefited was the bank. Chase wouldn't give a sh** about my cancelation of the credit card. In fact, it would be even glad I have done so given how much of a shi*ho** it is in. And even if people stop patronizing Circuit City, Chase wouldn't give a sh** either because it would fund other retail operations should Circuit City collapses. AGAIN, I will never do anything with Chase bank and make sure I will go out of my way to inform people that I know and others to stay from Circuit City in particular and Chase bank in general. |

RE: Being robbed by Chase Bank!
I too had someone get a hold of my card number and the pin and they cleaned me out.I called chase right away.I did all they told me to do and they still denied my claim.I filed three diffrent times and basically was told too bad.Even the Office of the Controller could not get my money.Their customer service ( In India) is terrible , you cant get anyone to understand you and you can not understand them.I think I will try small claims to get some of my money back |
