Yeah! BBB is the best!!!

Hey everyone! Better Business Bureau is great. Do complain - it works! I got the chase bast*rds reimburse me EVERYTHING: the late fee and the finance charge (a total of $32). But I had to go a long way.

However I received a phone message from them asking me to call them back... I wonder if they will ask me to cancell my card now... I'll keep you posted.

RE: Chase & Circuit City

This is to jokerha50 responding to your comment from July... a new card (be it debit or credit) on the same account with the same account number will make a difference. Why? Because the 3-digit code on the back of the card changes everytime you get a new card, even when it's the same account number... if Chase used the old 3-digit code the charge would have been declined to protect the card holder (smarty pants). They weren't making up s*** ~ but it seems you don't know s***, you should apologize!! You've reminded me of a saying, actually two, "Those of you who think you know it all are annoying the ones who do" (and even, like me, the ones who don't know it all) and "It is better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to open one's mouth and remove all doubt." Abe Lincoln. Now you've proven your ignorance perhaps you will keep useless, pointless comments like that one to yourself next time.

RE: BEWARE OF CHASE!

My problem from my complaint on 7/2/07 was resolved by writing the VP of Customer Service Deb Walden at:

Executive Vice President, Customer Service
Office of the President
JPMorgan Chase
2500 Westfield Drive
Elgin, Il 60123

One of her assistants contacted me and refunded my $97 in late fee and finance charges even though he wasn't the most polite person. I'm still closing my Chase account because of the AWFUL experience that I've had. Don't bother writing to that correspondance address listed on your statement, they responded to me saying that they were not going to credit my account. The only way my situation was resolved was by writing to the executive office.

Chase Credit Card Suck

I recently have a very bad experience with Chase/United credit card. Here is the whole story and I hope you learn my lesson and stay away from this credit card issuer. We were a very responsible credit card holders as we always pay our balance on time and in full for 2 years. For one month, we did not receive the statement and therefore did not pay for that month. We were charged with $ 39 late fee + $ 181 for finance charge (because they charged you for any accumulated balance after the balance was not paid.) I told them that we did not receive the statement and we told them about our payment history. However, they only credit partial of the total charge, requiring us to pay $ 160 dollars of the finance charge. I had had in the past in similar situations with other credit card issuers (like American Express and Citibank. They were always understanding and credited all the late fee + finance charges. But not Chase/United, they were so greedy and did not care if we were such good customers (for two years, we charged almost $ 100,000) I asked them to lower the charge to $ 100 and I will keep the account open, but they would not. Chase is willing to take the $ 60 right now and let go the many hundreds if not thousands dollars had I remained their customers. Well, their loss and I do not care much as I have found other credit card with much better term (Capital with double mile for every dollar you spend, no limit on what airline, etc. and cheaper fee @ $39 / year.) But I hope to share you this story so that you know to avoid!

spread the news

Hi all,
I think we should spread the news of Chase's bad business. I think each of us should print at least 100 of these posts and hand them out to anyone (if you are college students, It would be even better.) If 100 of us to do so, there will be 100,000 people know about the way Chase is doing business. That is the most practical way to get even at them, and help other people too! Please reply if you agree. All we need is to print out 4-5 pages of the opinion in this thread.

Totally agree

I have had a Chase account for 7 years. I have seen the interest rate increase from 4.9% to 29.99% in three years. I made one late payment (missed by a day) and immediately called customer service. They were rude, insensitive and seemed almost pleased that my rate was now increased. I was stuck. I noticed my minimum payment was $12 more than the interest each month. I refused to do this!
I took the money out of my savings and paid my other credit card off (Discover, and they have been great!)Immediately Discover sent me a low % rate offer and I transferred my Chase to them. I owe Chase $400 now and am paying it off today before they raise my rate to 100% to keep a balance on my card. I will NEVER use them for anything. Avoid their ATM's. If there is ever a lawsuit, count me in.

Anyone from Michigan with this Problem?

I was wondering if anyone in Michigan is experiencing this rate increase problem, where the interest rate goes up dramatically without prior notice (i.e., no warning letter or anything, just a monthly statement that shows the new, higher rate). I have heard that Bank of America, Chase and HSBC all do this.

If so, I would really like to talk about it and get your thoughts. E-mail me at bitcrusher [at symbol] gmail.com.

The abusive practices continue

: I recently had a fairly simply situation. My wife made a fairly large purchase, but well within our credit limit. AS we went to sign the slip, we noticed an error in the total and asked that it be correct. The company processed a credit of the higher amount, then charged us the correct amount.

Chase processed it as two charges, but delayed posting the credit for three days which caused an over the credit limit fee. i called to have it reversed and chase refused, claiming I should have waited three days before allowing them to re-process the correct amount.

I wish you the best of luck pursuing these companies.

re: Chase Sucks

All you people that vote republican, shouldn't be complaing. I know there are democrats in bed with the banking industry too, but its no nearly as bad as the republicans. All this was caused by this administration allowing the banks to write the banking laws, and the republican congress rubber stamping it. Its best to stay away from these banks all together. These people should be in jail for the stuff they do. They're all the scum of the earth. Its not just Chase, its all the banks (at least all the big ones). I had the same problem with Chase. I didn't even have any late payments, or over my limit. They just did it to me because they could, and they were greedy. I've been a Chase customer for 17 years. I have bank accounts, CDs, Money Market, and several credit cards with them. For no reason other than they could, they raised all the interest rate on my credit cards to 29.9% Between the different cards, I owed them more than $50,000. You can imagine what that could do to someone when they're interest rates more than tripled. Its the same as if my debt had tripled as far as payments were concerned. Sears did the same thing with their Mastercard. I'd been a Sears credit card customer for 26 years. What did I do?

I paid off all my credit cards a year ago, and I don't carry a balance on any of them (unless there's 0% interest). I have the assets to do that. A lot of people don't, and the things these banks do to them ruin them. My advice to everyone is to dump these banks. Put your money in small banks (until they get swallowed up by big ones) or credit unions. I have a checking account with several small banks, and they don't charge me anything. I don't have to keep any minimums, or have direct deposit, or anything. They treat me like they appreciate my business.

Now Chase is sending me form letters saying they're worried about losing my business, and offering me tens of thousands of credit for just a few interests points a year until the balance is paid off. Right. Until the balance is paid off, or until they decide to change the rules.

RE: Thank you Everyone!!!

I have a better suggestion for their credit card offers than throwing them in the trash. Since they usually come with a postage paid envelope, put all the material they sent you, along with any other junk you want to get rid of, in the postage paid envelope, and send it back to them. At least this costs them a little money for the postage, the time someone has to open it, and the cost for the increased trash to dispose of.

Chase does it again

I had a letter from Chase stating that my credit card would remain at a 7.9% for as long as I had my account.
Then, they changed the rate to 9%.

When I called, they said that they would not honor the letter. I asked if the letter was a lie and they "basically yes".

chase credit card ripoffs

My husband and I, recently married and applied for a chase credit card freedom (turns into a jail cell). It sounded great to earn money for things we normally buy. After 2 months of paying our bill with 0% APR for 6 months and sending the payment in the sametime as the others, by the 29th of each month, they said we were late. Each time we paid about 5x the minimum payment amount. With a balance of $4,800 we suddenly have an interest rate of 24% instead of 0% for the next 4 months because they said we were late although they recieved $2000 in payment for a minimum payment of $86. To me this is ridiculous and this company is out to make money ethically or not ethically. My advise don't do it, you will pay more and have more frustration than it is worth.

How in the hell is this Chase's fault. Your son was irresponsible by spending more than he had. I'd argue that you were negligent as well, for not teaching him the fundamentals of budgeting and finance. #1 rule: DON'T SPEND MONEY THAT YOU DON'T HAVE.

Quit searching for a scapegoat at chase and look a little closer to home.

RE: I Hate chase

Chase did the same to us. We always paid our bill on time, never late. But, when we went to re-finance our house we found out Chase put a 30 day late on our perfect credit. To our suprise. We called Chase to find out how they could justify putting a 30-day late on our credit when we were never 30 day's late. They explained it by saying that "They received our payment 6 days after the due date", which to me would only be 6 days late, not 30. We talked to 10 different customer service reps, all rude and nobody could explain why they would do what they did. Finally, I was able to talk to a "manager" and told us that since it did not fall within their "cycle dates" that it is considered thirty days late? Whatever that means. I wanted them to explain to me how receiving a payment 6 days past the due date is considered 30 days late. First, I must add that every customer service agent we spoke to had a different story. This guy said that they have billing "cycle periods" and that if they do not recieve a payment within their "cycle periods" they consider it late. It makes no sense how they can rationalize that and none of the other major credit cards I have report their billing that way. I would like to add that they did this when we had decided to pay them off, they put the 30-day late on our credit after we paid them in full.

CHASE AGAIN

I had my Chase credit card for around 3 years with no late payments, over the limit etc. Last year I found out I had cancer and was immediately hospitalized for surgery. During the chaos my payment was a week and a half late. My 7.99% fixed interest rate was raised to 29.99% variable. I called figuring I would straighten out the matter since it was a one time event and the circumstances surrounding it. I was told in not so many words " so sad, too bad ", nothing they could do. I was told that if I continued to make on time payments for 6 consecutive months that I could have my % rate reduced. Guess what? A year later of on time payments and I was told nothing was available at this time.
I can't even begin to put into words how completely disgusted I am with Chase's treatment of customers.
I truly believe in karma. I just hope I'm still around to watch the Chase empire fall.

CHASE CREDIT CARD - BE WARNED

How about this one? I have had my Chase/Amazon Visa for a little over a year at 17.9%. A couple of months ago they sent a postcard in the mail (something that looked like Junk Mail, not a formal informational letter) stating they were raising my interest rate from 17.24% to 29.99%. Not because I was late on a payment, not because I was over my limit, just because…. Well, I really don't know. The only way to avoid the increase was to close the account and finish paying off the balance at 17.24%. I'm confused as to their goal here. It seems as though their intention is to eliminate as many of their customers as possible. What possible reason would they have for wanted to get rid of me as a customer? I haven’t paid off the balance each month, they are making money on the interest, I’m NEVER late, and I don’t go over my limit.
When I called about this, the CSR was trying to offer me some kind of deal that if I purchase something through one of their affiliates they would keep my 17.24% rate. Does that qualify as extortion? My other option was to sign up for AutoBill pay (which I had no problem with), pay on time for 12 months at 28.24%, stay within my credit line and then after 12 months "watch my APR drop to an even lower Variable Purchase APR of 17.24%". Well, if they hadn't just raised it, I wouldn't have to "WATCH MY APR DROP TO AN EVEN LOWER VARIABLE PURCHASE APR!" I asked to speak to a supervisor and after a 10-minute wait, I asked how long have I had this account, she answer, “over a year”. I asked if I had ever been late with a payment in the past 12 months. She said, “no”. I reasoned that, I had already paid 12 months on time, within my limit, etc. She didn’t answer. She didn’t care. And bottom line, I could drop dead. She couldn’t answer any of my logical questions because she has to follow company protocol. It’s not really any of the customer services employees fault. It’s the big wigs who are trying to please the stockholders and make as much money as possible. The only thing that confuses me, is why they are encouraging the consumers to stop doing business with them or why they ever gave me the card in the first place if they don’t care to deal with us “small fries”.
I am in a business where most of the customers pay with credit cards and when I see a Chase Card, I share my Chase story with them and warn them they may want to stop doing business with Chase BEFORE Chase decides they may not want to do business with them, and raises THEIR APR to an exorbitant one. I felt I did nothing to precipitate this treatment from this company. My next form of complaint will be in a videotaped message on You Tube. Although unlikely, seeing Chase go bankrupt would be sweet. I have been thoroughly insulted and will do everything in my power to share these facts with as many people as possible.

Chase Credit Card Suck

Complaints against Chase can also be submitted to their federal regulators, the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency. They take consumer complaints very seriously. The link is as follows:
