Chase Continues Its Attack on Good Customers
I received the adverse action notice this week from Chase raising my rate from 7.99 to 19.24 percent. I have had this card for nearly five years and have had excellent, unmarred credit for nearly 30 years. It is the same situation you've all discussed...an out of the blue interest rate increase for apparantly no reason. Of course, I'm not about to pay an interest rate than has more than doubled, so I will close the account and pay it off until I find a better transfer offer to get rid of them. I have already written a nasty letter to them, have posted and stumbled this situation on my very popular parenting blog (hopefully discouraging others from using Chase) and am writing to Senator Carl Levin, who has opening an inquiry into predatory interest practices by credit card lenders on Dec 4th. Thanks for posting information about that here. You can read my take on it at http://www.parent-traps.com. This on top of the press release on Chase's site saying they are ending these practices effective January 2008 - so they are taking this month to get rid of anyone with decent interest rates, it would appear.

Chase Screwed my brother
I don't even know where to begin. My brother has had Chase for over 10+ years and he's always been a great customer, but about 4 years ago he had a M.S. (multiple Sclerosis) attack that left in paralyzed. Now me being 20 at the time, was just figuring out this whole credit and debit thing. I had to become my brothers POA and I was paying his bills on time and we were doing pretty good. Well I moved out of town and left my sister in charge of his finances.. HUGE mistake. She raked up his Chase card and didn't pay it. I tried to work with them, I even contacted the fraud department and they said they would send me paperwork and call me in a few days to see if I had gotten it. Well. no such luck. They didn't send me anything and they would call, but that was just because they wanted money. Well, I contacted them again and this time they said that they wouldn't do anything because it was his fault. A**holes.. So then I contact a debit relief specialist and got Chase and a few other cards on the program. I even contacted Chase and they said that they would accept the program. Well the following month I got a letter saying that he is being sued for over 29,000 in credit card debit. Now me, being 27. nows a bit more about finances and such, but this has me stressing. If you have any ideas on what I could possible do. I would be very greatful. I just don't know what to do. |

More Scams from the CC Companies !!!
Another scam that CC companies try to pull is make your due date earlier than it normally is.Most people are acustomed to paying this bill on a certain date each month and don't always look at the due date and pay it the same date they payed it the last few months and then get hit with a late fee !!! Another scam CC companies pull is "Holding The Mail in a Room" Chase was caught doing this and got hit with a class action suit and lost and ended up paying millions in fines. So don't tell me chase is squeeky clean,my wife works in the Senate and I know through the grape vine that the feds are coming !!! |

Settlement resolution ?s
I have a problem I hope someone can advise me on how to resolve:
About 1 1/2 years ago I became quite ill, too sick to work. After many calls I was able to get Chase to freeze my account for a year while I paid a lower interest rate. The 28+ percent rate has now been reactivated and I am still unable to work.
Does anyone know how I can settle with them so they don't keep piling more and more payments onto what used to be a fair monthly credit card payment? This is my only debt, mostly credit is owed because of their practices and it is growing out of control with no end in sight.
Thanks in advance,
Noodles |

different twist, BEWARE paperless billing
Here's another way that Chase is attempting to defraud it's customers... I use Chase Epay (online) to pay my bills, I have two of their cards. A few months back I logged on to pay about 5 days ahead of time as is my habit. And it's also the interval that Chase's automatic payment "alert" email notification system is set (it warns you of upcoming payments due 5 days ahead of time).
Only to find one of my cards overdue! How can that be? Well they moved the payment due date exactly 6 days forward. They never sent anything in the mail, the Payment due automatic alert was never sent (the first time ever that I didn't recieve one 5 days in advance, very suspicious!), no mail or email or any other attempt to inform me was made.
After talking to two different Reps and two supervisors. I got no where. Never a late payment, always pay way over the minimum. Basically if you use Chase online payment whether you get your statements in the mail or not BE VERY CAREFUL for this deception.
BOTH reps and BOTH supervisors admited I was not notified, BECAUSE I was using paperless billing! and none of them could explain why an Email alert was never sent out for that account as they are customarily 5 days ahead of time. Needless to say I changed back to paper billing and always check the statement. The idiots want to save money with paperless billing WHILE they shaft their paperless customers! Incredible.
Basically it seems they are tracking their paperless customers payment habits and randomly advancing the due date a day or two before they habitually make their payments so they can fraudulently charge late fees, and default interest rates... |

Interest rate increase
I am a victim of Chase's practices in which my interest rate increased from 7.99% to 13.23% due to them running a new credit report. They said that I no longer qualified for the preferred rate. Keep in mind that I have NEVER been late with a payment and my credit score has only increased since I first opened this card many years ago. Their response to that was that I must have too high of a debt to available credit ratio with other credit cards and am now considered higher risk. If I have a perfect payment history with all of my creditors, including Chase, what does that have to do with Chase and my interest rate at all??? I will be transferring my balance as soon as possible! |

Chase credit card scams!
I just cancelled my credit card today after a few months of frustration - Bank one was the previous bank & they were the best then Chase bought them out. After I moved I made it a point to change my online statements & emails, etc.
These past few months, they've been charging me late fees b/c I didn't get the statement b/c their website doesn't update the email that the statement goes to, even though it says "If the email is incorrect or missing, update it now". I've done that unnecessarily 3 times more than I'm supposed to.
When you call Cust. Svc they treat you like a liar, don't even offer to remove or investigate the charge as to why. And conveniently, the techy support can't track your changes & they showed NO ACTIVITY in me trying to change my email. Bullsh*t! It's not my problem there's a glitch for me not to get my dam statement! I'm a meticulous person but not a fool & a person that's never late on her bills so they can kiss my a**!. American Express all the way. They suckered me out of $30 in late fees not my fault, but it will be more if I stay. Stay away from Chase!!

RE: different twist, BEWARE paperless billing
Yes, they've done it to me - twice! Late charge 2x totaling $30! No email sent after many attempts to change my old email to new to RECEIVE the online statements, therefore, the statements are LATE, and so am I. But no more, I cancelled today; I am never late on my bills & don't stay to get scammed no matter what! |

RE: late statement
Even worse is the online statement. I was in your shoes, but no longer! I cancelled my card today. I had the Sony points card (formerly by BankOne excellent!) bought out by Chase which is the worse company ever!
I always pay my bills on time, but if God forbid you move & change your email numerous times, it will still revert back to your old email, which was tied to my old work. I know I changed it many times, and they suckered my out of $30 in late fees which I know isn't my fault b/c there wasn't a statement sent.
They are SNEAKY SCAMMERS! When I called they were like I have no record of your email change, bullsh*t! I know I changed it, like last month when you charged me late! This month, it conveniently reverted back to my old email & they got another $15 from me. It will go on, so put a stop to it! I redeemed my Sony points & cancelled my card today & asked them to send a confirmation + paper statement. I asked for the reps name of employee #, and of course, they didn't give it to me so we'll see what happens. REDEEM & LEAVE! |

FOR CHASEREP
What do you recommend for the people not receiving online bills and being charged late fees?
I am a responsible being & have excellent credit, never payed a bill late until the last 2 months it defaulted back to my old email addy. I know I changed it numerous times, and last month when they stiffed me for $15 in late charge. I was told by cust. svc. they never showed email change activity?! I know I did it & I am not a stupid person like I was being treated. For the first time in 5 years with this card (first owned by Bankone which Chase bought out) I got stiffed for $30 & am very unhappy because for 10 years of paid-in-full credit cards, and a credit score of 782 - I have never paid a late fee because I've never been late. I NEVER GOT THE STATEMENT THESE few months because there's a glitch or someone is doing something CROOKED !! How did my email change these past few months & how do you not get an online statement after enrolling for one? I know you have my new email b/c I have a statement notice from Jan. 07, when I moved? What is happening here??
Also, reading through these threads - what are your thoughts about this company & its integrity? With so many people with the same stories and issues, it is safe to say that many are telling the truth. Is there any investigations being done within your company, new policies being discussed on the unethical treatment of your business practices? I must say I am disappointed, disgusted, and uneasy about how business is carried out, thanks & awaiting your reply. |

RE: FOR CHASEREP
Done, done & done Mr. Chaserep. I've asked for names numerous times & they said they don't do that (maybe some cust svc is outsourced b/c some ppl I spoke to have indian accents?) The online acct. secure cust. svc messengers didn't help either. Mentioned my history, they wouldn't budge- I stopped wasting my breath explaining myself time & time again when it wasn't my fault that it's 2008 and glitches should be a thing of the past. I also have a Upromise, AMEX, & Visa's and this has never happened. I'm devasted that this $30 could've gone to my infant 34 oz. of Similac formula.
I cancelled my card this afternoon ... b/c I was charged again w/no notice of online statement avail. to my email. It reverted back to my old work email I changed last month, those sneaky Chase people. I'm going to follow up to make sure my cc is cancelled & they will send me the notice of balance & my last statement via mail. We'll see how that ends up, any advice to confirm that mailing Mr. Chaserep? Thanks. |

chaserep
She had her Chase card since the early 90s and a few years ago owed 7K on the card. She has not used it since and never missed a payment.
The reason the rate increased was because of a few late payments, from something in the low teens to 29%. Now she owes $13,000+, but please keep in mind that at least $6,000 is interest only. She was smart enough to not use the card since she had it down to $7,000 and was unable to work because of her medical condition. All this on top of the fact that she paid zero income tax last year and she will have none to pay for the past calendar year.
She/we are concerned that the high interest on this card is growing exponentially with no end in sight, and no other card will transfer the entire balance.
Any advice you can give is greatly appreciated.
Thanks again |

Thanks Chaserep, but...
Chaserep, believe me that suggestion is not out of the question, however it is my understanding that Chase credit card offers the opportunity to settle. This would allow for someone in a medical type situation to pay a lesser amount and be done with the debt. I just don't know how much is a reasonable offer to make to Chase. I am sure Chase, like other credit cards has a % in which they would be willing to settle for, do you have any advice on what that might be?
Thanks again for your suggestions |

Avoid Chase at All Costs!
I just submitted a balance transfer request for both of my chase credit cards. I received a phone call on Monday night stating that I had missed my December payment. This did not seem right to me as I always pay my bills on time (never been late) and always pay more than the minimum.
I logged into my account while I was on the phone with the rep and noticed that I had forgotten to pay. He tried to get me to authorize a payment by phone and charge me the 14.95 fee, he tried to tell me that this was in my best interest as I did not want to hurt my credit rating. I told him no, I'm not 30 days over due, so a late of 10 days will not affect my credit. So then he said he'd waive the fee. Then I noticed that they had raised my APR from 9.99% to 29.99%!!! But it was on only one of my cards the other APR was not changed. I was livid! He told me to call back tomorrow to speak with someone about it.
I finally got around to calling them back today. I spoke to three different people and they all told me that there was nothing they could do because the it was my fault that I didn't make the payment. I talked to them about my long standing time as a customer, the fact that I'd never missed a payment and that I always pay the minimum. I was told that this is standard practice after a payment was missed. I then said that the other card had not been affected. They said, it 's possible that it still will be. I told her to stop feeding me that bull and that I had already been issued another statement on the other account and the APR was not raised. She then said, well would you like me to raise it? I wanted to come through the phone!!! When I started to raise my voice I heard her laugh at me.
I tried to get the number of the corporate location, but she told me she only had an address and no number. I told her that I would now be closing both accounts in the next few days.
I can not beleive that they would treat such a good customer like this, and instead of lowering the APR back they opt not to receive any revenue!!
Stay away from this company, they obvioulsy don't care about their customers. You're just a number to them. |

I almost bought into the offer as a matter of fact. Thank you postee! Hope this can help somone else. Chase sucks pondwater. |
