RE: Chase Credit Card Suck

I had the same issue. Paid my card @ 11:pm on due date, and payment didn't post until next day. Following month rate went up to 29.99%. Need that executive office address please...

RE: Avoid Chase at All Costs!

You are lucky that all they did was raise the rate on one account. I have been a Chase card user for 17 years, never late. Probably a higher volume customer than most, three large personal accounts. I am in the California Citrus industry. When it froze last January I knew that I may have cash flow problems. Paid off two accounts and contacted Chase in February to see if I can extend an expiring low interest rate on the third. No such luck. When the 1.9% rate expired the rated went directly to 29%. When I called to complain and ask for a lower rate, all that was offered an account closure with the balance transferred to a "secured" term account at a lower interest rate. When I asked to have the documentation sent to me before agreeing I was told that there is no formal agreement, it was just another service offered by Chase. I wouldn't agree to that over the phone. Within the month I recieved notice that Chase had closed the two zero balance accounts and reduced the limit on the other account to the current balance. I may be late these days but have never missed a payment. I will never use a Chase product personally or Corporately again.

RE: BEWARE OF CHASE!

Two weeks ago, I opened my Chase/Amazon credit card statement and noticed that there was a late charge on the bill. Upon further investigation I discovered that I did not receive statements for the prior two periods.

I called Chase the next morning and spoke with Lisette who told me that it appeared that I had signed up for online statements. I assured her that I would never knowingly do that (since I like to have a paper trail) and upon further investigation she concluded that the paper statements were in fact sent out to me.

I have never missed receiving any bill in the mail (much less two statements from the same company in consecutive months). I immediately paid (online) the minimum payment due of $525.19 to bring the account to a current status.

I called Chase back and spoke to Dana who said that I must fax a letter to Customer Service concerning my situation. In the letter I asked that Chase: 1. Send me copies of the 2 missing statements. 2. Refund any late charges, finance charges, and over limit fees which were incurred during the two missing statements. 3. Reinstate the promotional interest that I was paying prior to the missing statements and 4. Correct any negative feedback on my credit report that had resulted from this "situation".

On 1/18/08 I received a letter from Jamie Breig (Financial Service Advisor at Chase) and in her letter she wrote "As you know, special circumstances that may occur at individual U.S. Post Offices may occasionally result in a delay in the delivery of your statement. We are all sensitive to the fact that there may be delays in the delivery of our mail, and we realize that these delays are often frustrating and inconvenient. For this reason, we have removed any fees(s) related to this statement delay."

...problem is...Ms. Breig was only referring to the two late charges of $39 each. I called Chase and asked about the nearly $300 in finance charges and the blemish on my credit report. "....We will investigate that and get back to you within 7 to 12 business days"....I was told.

In the meantime, I did a Google search on "Chase/Amazon missing statements scam" and found this site. Obviously I am one of several people that has been victimized by this Chase "scam". I called Amazon on the hope that someone there could go to bat for me, but he said that even though he has heard of identical cases, there was nothing he could do. You would think that Amazon would not want to have their name associated with a company (Chase) that was perpetrating such a scam.

I have since contacted my lawyer who said that it is not cost effective to have him sue Chase but said that I should file a claim in "Small Claims Court".

My next step is to pay Chase off in full and then file the claim. Good luck to others in my situation. Dave

P.S. I mainly use one credit card and pay it off in full every month to the tune of about 20 to 30 thousand dollars. The only reason, I even had the Chase card was because they offered me a 0% Promotional Rate. If any of you want to give me money for 0%, I'll take it and pay you back in full before any finance charges kick in.

RE: Chase & Circuit City

Wow, same exact story here!! I ourchased a laptop with the promotional account and a TV with the non-promotional account to get the rewards to have FIREDOG install it. I went to the store and made an $800.00 payment towards the TV to pay it off, after all the rates were 24% a year and they applied the payment towards the laptop I had been making my payments on every month with no problems at 0% interest. I called the 800 number and was informed to call after I received the statement and they would adjust the account to show the $800.00 payment going to the 24% interest TV, What a mistake, I spoke with "Supervisors" in the Phillipines after over 35 minuted on hold and being hung up on twice!!, she stated and I quote "I do admit we informed you that we could do this the last time you called" however that was incorrect and "we cannot do that". WHAT?? So I ended having the $800.00 payment applied to the 0% interest item and now I am stuck trying to pay off a large ticket item with a 24% interest rate. My mistake, I am sorry I ever opened an account with Chase, this is my mistake. This is the second Chase account I have had through Circuit City, the last account they would not allow me to close, they kept finding ways to keep it open with interest. I made the LAST payment and there was $2.00 approximately in interest so I made a payment of the $2.00 and change and requested that the account be closed, well the $2.00 and change interest was being charged with interest so they would not let me close it. Unlike other normal cards you accrue interest even if you make the payment in full. I had to go to Circuit City to get it closed.
I like Circuit City the staff has been very helpful however they need to STOP doing accounts with Chase, Best Buy as well as many other electronics stores deserve my money as well!!
I have written to Circuit City asking for help from here in the USA, I really do not feel that calling an 800 number and speaking with people that are working for less than my son makes shoveling a driveway really care. Maybe that is why we get placed on hold for so long only to hung up on!! They do NOT care, why should they?? Its not their money and they control our money and credit.

RE: Sending out checks

Here's the deal, "Chase Rep"- you can cherry pick weaker arguments or posts you think have addressable flaws, but that eventually happens in every complaint message board. Someone, from the company, wants to infiltrate to alert people to how stupid they are & thereby try to weaken everyone else's legitimate complaints. Hope you are proud of yourself.

How about this? We live & have a business in Florida. My wife made a phone payment for our Chase Business Card in Dec. 5, 2007, for a bill due by the 10th. I watched her do it. Guess what? Chase phone rep NEVER gave her a confirmation number. Had made plenty of phone payments before, on many other cards ... and been given one BEFORE we hung up. It had been volunteered. Lesson: Always ask for a CONFIRMATION #.

Fast forward: My wife's older brother came in for Christmas & was keeping stuff in our home office, and somehow moved the December Chase statement, due Jan. 10. So, crap, that was our fault, and the payment for January was not paid "on time." It was the "late payment" notice from Chase that arrived on the 14th that alerted us to that. BUT THAT IS WHERE THE FRAUDULENT ACT BY CHASE SURFACED. The letter ALSO stated that we'd NEVER made the Dec. payment!!! Called immediately. Chase rep said we never made the phone payment on Dec 5th & nothing registered on their computers that any call from us was made. And do you know why they can say a call was never made??? Because we didn't have a confirmation number. HAVE YOU FIGURED OUT THE SCAM BY NOW, "Chase Rep?" If NO confirmation # is given, the call to make & record a payment, on time, or not, was NEVER made. DO YOU KNOW WHY THAT CALL NEVER EXISTED? I called AT&T to have them send a copy of the phone statement, so I could prove my wife called Chase on Dec. 5th. And GUESS WHAT??? 800, 866, etc. numbers ARE NOT RECORDED BY THE PHONE COMPANY!!! It's the perfect LOOPHOLE.

The evidence we have is that my wife actually debited our bank account $148.00 on Quickbooks on Dec 5th, for the Dec. 5th Chase Payment. That was the minimum payment. We had over $24,000 in the account to cover it. That transaction is time-stamped into the computer & evidence of due diligence to pay. Why would she debit the $148., if we had no plan on paying? It would only hurt our credit.

As soon as we got the "late payment" letter I went to "MYFICO.COM,' which is a Suzy Ormon recommended site, and got one of three free credit reports. I was supposed to get 3, but 2 other reporting agencies denied the request, which by law allows you to pull one report FREE from each one. The one I pulled interestingly showed that my credit was still unmarred. Our scores have ranged from 780 to 815, even while our company has had to deal with a few years of hurricanes.

Here's what's interesting: The December report filed to the credit bureau, by Chase, showed that the payment was ON TIME. HOWEVER ... the minimum payment, as CHASE reported it, was at $188, not at the $148 we thought we'd paid on 12/5. That would mean that they had already factored in the rate adjustment on our $7200 balance, which went from 5.99% .... to 11.99%. An extra $40/month profit, from someone they know carries a balance & pays their bills. Perfect. So it didn't real matter about the Jan. pmt. being late. The SCAM was already complete.

Bottom line: THESE BANKS WILL STOP AT NOTHING TO MAKE BACK THE BILLIONS THEY'VE LOST IN THE "SUB-PRIME" MORTGAGE SCANDAL.

Closing my Chase account immediately

I wish I'd read this before I opened this account through Amazon. I've never had a late fee or an over-limit fee, or been late or over the limit until last month with this card. They failed to post a payment, then charged me for the late payment, and double charged me for being over my limit. I accepted that as ignorance of the law because I didn't know I COULD go over the limit and actually it was their finance charge that put me $6 over the limit. I was going to swallow hard and pay the $39, but this is really too much.

I've paid it off and will close it the moment the payment is credited. I'm also writing to Amazon about their choice of card companies.

No statement = my penalty

Chase took over my credit card from Bank One and I'm so appalled at the horrible customer service, I closed my account. They stopped mailing statements to me and by the time I realized their error, I was a few days late with my payment. They said I was now receiving statements online. When I explained that I never received statements online they determined that they did not have an email address for me! They refused to reverse the $29 late fee on my account. A month later they still had not sent a statement. I would like to pursue the legality of gouging me for their error but I am so fed up. Oh, the man in India is pretty hard to understand, and what the heck are my financial records doing in India?

Discover Card is BEST

With a perfect payment history, Chase says my two 25,000 cards are too high (7000 and 9000) and lowers my limit to 10000 and then raises my rate to 29.99. This is outright disgusting. Discover Card charges no phone payment fees and I have now paid the money grabbers at Chase with a Capital One transfer.

Do Not Use Chase - 11 Day Float and $29 late scam

Chase Credit took over all Amoco gas card accounts soon after the BP / Amoco merger. Now the accounts and company are called BP Amoco, run from a Chase/BP website.

We have been Amoco credit / gas card users for 20 years. Soon after Chase took over the interest rate went up to 27+% from 15%.
Further, the shrewd attorneys and accountants at Chase figured out this 'scam' on credit accounts, by manipulating the time between Due and Close.

Look at these key dates on your statements.

The 14th of the month is the "due" date.
The 25th of the month is the "close" date.
This 11 day 'grey area' - that is 11 days from payments' due to close date for your account.
Most all other creditors use 3-5 days - you get two weeks on a mortgage. Then you are charged for 'late'.

You are charged right away by Chase on the 14th a $29 late fee - even though the monthly accounting does not close for another 11 days.

This is every month.
Due is 14th - and the $29 late fee.
Close is the 25th.

Chase has cleverly compressed the window of 'on time' payments they accept every month to only 19-21 days.

Chase will take your money after the 14th and before the 25th and put it toward that month's balance - but the consumer is 'late'.
For example, you have from Jan 26th to Feb 14th - 20 days out of a month - to make an 'on time' Feb payment.

Why is this important? I did not find out until I had made two payments in January, and was hit with a $29 'late fee' on Feb 14. 21 days after my Jan 25th payment. 5 days before the 'close' date.

A payment made on Jan 11 was 'on time' by Chase's rules and credited.
A payment made on Jan 25 was 'late' by Chases's rules - for Jan accounting - but since I was 'on time' Jan 11 they took the 25th payment - and put against the Jan balance.

I was penalized by making two payments too close in Jan.
My Feb account was not 'closed' but money they get from
15th to 25th is 'late'. After putting up with terrible customer support did they refund on 'a one time courtesy'.

You only have from the 26th to the 14th to make 'on time' payments to Chase. 19 days.

Legal ? I'm sure it is. Ethical ? I don't think so.
Why can't Chase be like Citibank - 3-5 days from Due to Close.
Chase will take the money, and in this electronic transaction economy, why the "11 day" lag ?

Further, my two Chase Phone Support incidents were pathetic. Rude, condescending, insulting.

Do not use Chase - do yourself a favor - pay the account off and use a non-Chase Mastercard for Amoco gas.

Citibank for us from now on.

RE: Chase Credit Card Suck

I have been using credit cards for 28 years and have never encountered a credit card company worse than Chase. Recently when I tried to make a payment online through Chase.com from my laptop, it asked me to get an Activation Code. I requested the Activation Code which was supposed to be e-mailed almost immediately. The Activation Code e-mail was not sent. I requested the code more than 4 times and still no Activation Code. Chase also takes 2 days to process an ONLINE payment. If you are in California, the cutoff time is 1 pm. They charge $14.99 to make a payment ONLINE within 1 day which most other credit card companies like American Express do for free. When I got my bill, there was a $39 Late Fee and a $104.19 Finance Charge. I called their Customer Service to explain the situation, was transferred to their Internet Support Group, and then was asked to make the full payment of the current balance (not last statement balance) immediately to get credit for the Late Fee and Finance Charge. I did that immediately, the rep verified the payment had been made, but asked me to call back in 2 days to get the Finance Charge and Late Fee reversed. I called just now after 2 days and spoke with Ms. Morgan from the Missouri Call Center. She refused to reverse the charges. I asked her to check the Website records but she would not do so. I decided to cancel all 3 of my Chase Credit Cards, business as well as personal through Ms. Morgan. I will not do business with Chase again. Ms. Morgan had no qualms about losing a customer.

I would like to know if there are any lawsuits pending against Chase for their business practices.

RE: late statement

Last year 11/2007 two statements from chase didn't arrive ... and I also wait for the bills before I pay. Both went up APR 29% and of course the late fee ... I paid them off and will not use them. I too have never been late with payments before ... I had another chase account and it is through toys r us and they too didn't send bill early this year, 2008 ... I was in shock this could happen again I called and got the fee removed. But if you have a chase card do not depend on the paper statement arriving at all ... maybe this is their way of getting extra $$ or making customers less dependent on paper statements ... I hated electronic statements, anyway beware of Chase not sending statements and then charging late fees and your APR going way up!

grrr@chase

I had read at bankrate.com that chase was changing the way they calculate our APRs. "As of March 1, they will no longer change your APR based on a declining credit score. Your credit card account will be judged solely on how you manage your accounts with Chase."

Just got off the phone - my third call this afternoon! As of my current statement, they have decided to jump my rate from 7.99% to 17.99%! Supposedly, they sent a letter last November informing me of this - I think I would've noticed something like that! The only remedy they were willing to offer was a phone number for a credit counselor.

Amazing isn't it! My rate gets upped after years of on-time payments, because my credit score dropped from 786 to 679 due to being laid off - the same month they announce they will no longer be doing this! Having no income certainly plays games with your debt-to-income ratio... No matter that even with being unemployed, I have MADE SURE that not a single payment has been late - with anyone!

On top of all that, I check my credit report and find that an account I had closed with chase in Dec 06 was still listed as open! No apologies from them on that one either...

Neverending Chase/Circuit City finance charges

Oh wow, didn't realize how widespread this scam is!!

We too had a Circuit City card through Chase. Last month, I completely paid it off before the period ended. This month I have another $7.73 finance charge. Since they calculate the finance charge by the average daily balance, and since they include the finance charge in the average daily balance and have a minimum $1 finance charge, we will owe them $1 for the rest of our lives (assuming I actually pay this $7)! Additionally, when they cashed the check I used to pay it off it said "paid in full". So um..not paying it. It's easier to deal with the credit bureaus than Chase....and yep, can't believe I just said that.

Beware Chase Credit cards

This company has the worse customer service management system i have ever encountered. Chase is a company out for your money
and is very deceptive in their practices. I was a customer for over four years when they talked me into switching to paperless statements, Which i figured would be no problem considering i have automatic payments set up through my bank account. On the first payment i was accidentally was a dollar short on my my first payment and wasn't notified that i was not paying the right amount for five months. At that time I had hundreds of dollars in late fee's and they could only reverse one. I believe the shady practice expressed here on this website are consistent with there business practices. So if you have a chase card or are possible thinking about using chase i would recommend paying a higher rate because in the end you will save. Everything for me was great for a long time, till they decide to steal your money.
BEWARE OF CHASE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Insanity caused by Chase

Am I insane today is March l0, 2008 right?
Why when you call to find out if a payment has been posted does Chase tell you your March 7th balance. Get your act together and quit putting everyone in the poor house. We dont have any money to invest in the economy because Chase is getting all our money.

I just have to reply

I too have had my rate increased to 29.9% but this was because I had paid my Dec bill early (two payments in Nov) and since it was the same billing cycle, they raised my rate. I called them and they corrected it and reset my rate. Then I had my account go over it's limit due to finance charges and they raised it again. Ok, this time it was my own fault for not paying attention and I just paid the card off. Then I got a new card at circuit city and used it and never got my first bill, but since I am responsible with my money, I NOTICED I DIDN'T GET A BILL, I called them and the payment was already late, but they waived this and the fees and sent me my statement so I could pay it. What amazes me is that you all blame Chase for your own neglegance. Yes they should send you a bill, but you should also be responsible enough to notice when you do not get a bill. I track all my bills in Quicken and online and never miss one because I know exactly what I have to pay each and every month and I check my statements EVERY MONTH because far too often I get hit with fraudulent charges. Responsible credit card users should always check their balance every month so they can dispute such things. I understand those that have their rate increased for no reason, and the not getting told your payoff amount, and the poor man who has to send an itinerary to Chase, those people have a right to get upset, but when you have a 25k balance and you miss having to pay your $1000 bill for three months, I mean come on. I don't think a single one of you who missed your payments because you were not paying attention have any right whatsoever to complain. Also, might I suggest utilizing your bank's online bill pay feature, this makes your bank liable for your payment getting there by the time they say it will and more than a few times I have had to use them to stick it to HSBC who managed to "lose" my wire transferred payoff and charge me fees. Another thing it also allows you to see what bills you normally pay every month so you won't miss one when a statement doesn't get sent.

Also, to the person who claims bank one bought Chase, you are sadly misguided, JP Morgan the largest bank in the world bought bank one, not the other way around.

Get your facts straight

Chase is NOT the largest bank in the world. It is actually the 3rd largest. And for all of you that can't control your debt and take responsibility of your credit cards, maybe you shouldn't have them. The best way to keep banks and financial firms from making money is to pay off your credit cards previous months statement balances every month.

RE: get your facts straight

Considering BofA is falling into financial trouble and Citigroup is under investigation, Chase is standing strong, but I am sooooo sorry I offended you by listing them as the largest, my POINT is that Bank One was in fact bought out by Chase and not the other way around. I am sorry that I forgot my ONE OF qualifier in my statement, forgive me for misspeaking.

I also agree that you shouldn't use credit if you cannot be responsible about it and the fact that there is almost 10 straight pages of people bathmouthing a banking institution because they neglect to know who they owe money to is ridiculous.

RE: get your facts straight

While your point about the merger is technically correct, company leadership at Chase transitioned to Bank One personnel in 2006, with Jamie Dimon, former CEO of Bank One, assuming that position with Chase.

It appears that Chase's CC operations also were assumed by the former Bank One unit, as this time period corresponds with the changes in CC terms as well as a sharp increase in the less than ethical behavior reported on this board.

This pattern of behavior is nothing new, and is not just an issue with the CC business unit. My late father's estate trust was originally setup and managed by AFNB, which later merged with Bank One. My family had banked with AFNB ever since I could remember. After the merger, the trust management team changed. Within a few months, the new advisor approached my mother with a proposal to "better manage her trust assets." This idea consisted in selling all of the stocks, bonds and other assets held by the trust and buying securities offered by Bank One.

After reviewing the proposal, we concluded that the only thing that this scheme would accomplish would be to generate some nice transaction fees for Bank One, transfer all of the assets held in trust over to Bank One's balance sheet in the form of a few investment vehicles whose market performance was lower than the existing investments, all at my mother's expense, not only at the time of sale but also for years to come.

When my mother pointed out that this proposal would cost a her great deal of money (not to mention lower the overall value of the trust), the advisor's response was along the lines of "but you wouldn't have to pay it yourself, all fees and taxes would come out of the trust"! My mother, not being stupid, understood that regardless of account type, it was still her money. A fact either lost on, or downplayed by the advisor. I still haven't decided if that person was merely incompetent or just a crook. My mother quickly moved the trust to a locally owned banking institution that still takes its fiduciary responsibilities seriously and treats its customers with respect.

On a final note, prior to the Bank One merger, my sister-in-law held a VP level position with Chase, having worked there for decades, starting as a teller while she was still in college. After the merger, she was asked to stay on but opted to quit when she learned that her boss, whom she had worked closely with for most of her career, was being forced out.

Chase was once an honorable company that I didn't hesitate to do business with, but since the merger with Bank One, I wouldn't even use their junk mail offers for toilet paper for fear of having my "assets" stolen in the process!

RE: alerts not being sent

I've also had problems with Chase's 'alerts'. I've had my card for only a few months and found that after setting up an alert to warn me that a due date is approaching that those alerts never make it to me. Even tho I don't receive the message, Chase's online alert history shows that it was sent as planed. I also have it set to warn me if payment is not received and those alerts DO make it to my email box. I've only missed one payment so far but I should not have missed any had they sent the alerts like they were suppose to. To me it sounds like a scam so that they can charge you a $39 late fee and raise your interest rate.
