Real Is Scary!

The reason why Exorcist is so scary is because possessions do happen! Either that..or sickness of the mind happens. :-p The part that creeped me out is when she's coming down the stairs....uuhh. Still creeps me out thinking about it. I don't think there is really "scary" anymore...if anything, disturbing. High Tension is a reaaly disturbing flick, I recommend you watch. Also...hills that have eyes is pretty bad too.

Try watching the Exorcist when it first came out in theaters and when Linda Blair's head starts spinning the man seated behind you has an epileptic seizure. He kicked the back of the chair, jerked around, and made strange sounds. My mom and her friend, after they calmed down, found my aunt outside the theater needing to go home and change her pants. ;)

The Vanishing (subtitled original)

As far as we know, demons and monsters and witches and those sorts of things are only in the pages of books and on screen. But people who kill, they're real. And the irrational needs that can grip us, they're real too. That's why the scariest movie is THE VANISHING.

A man's girlfriend disappears. He is so consumed with the need to know what happened to her that he spends years trying to find the person who can tell him. When he does, he agrees to put himself completely in that stranger's control.

Hollywood re-made the movie with a listless Jeff Bridges and a ludicrous happy ending. The original version in French and Dutch is the stuff nightmares are made of.

RE: Scary flicks

none of them freaked me out on an emotional and psychological level as much as a little film out of Austria called Funny Games did.

*shutter*

The movie is getting an American re-make starring Naomi Watts and Tim Roth. Funny Games U.S. is set for release in April. The IMDB page is here:

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0808279/

The trailer is available on YouTube.

RE: Scary flicks

I saw the trailer for Funny Games at the theater a few weeks ago. It did look freaky.

RE: U GUYS DONT NO SCARY

edward scissorhands was created by tim burton in 1990. it's not really considered a "classic" and it's anything but horror.
edward was supposed to show the life from the view of an outsider, and was meant to reflect Tim Burton's own childhood.
johnny depp simply played a man who had "scissor hands" and when he would go to school with the children, they were terribly scared of him, but edward coped with his issues and developed good from the bad... i wouldn't classify something that had to do with what i just mentioned as "horror".

so, i suggest you actually watch that movie before you go running off saying "horror" when actually, it's more a work of art.

Re: Scariest Movie

Hey everybody, it's been a while since I've posted. I'm glad to be back. I'm surprised no one mentioned it, but "Saw" was pretty scary when it came out. If not for the movie itself, but just the idea of how it could happen and the whole psychological thriller aspect. Sure, the additions to it afterwards are hardly worth mentioning, I still think Saw hold a place on the list.

I recently saw The Vanishing talked about as one of the imports/remakes that actually had the same director as the original. Kinda surprised me after seeing all of the flack that it has gotten over the years. I kinda liked the remake but tend to agree that the original is better.

As a sidenote: Boy IMDb has gotten icky lately. *Not* impressed with its loading time right now.

Difficult question...

To date, the original Halloween still scares me the most!

1)I can't watch it alone, unless it's during daylight and I know I won't be alone at night.

2)hearing the musical score will elicit the chills

3) my neighbor dressed up as Michael Myers at a Halloween party and I had to stay away from him!

But, The Vanishing (original) is equally terrifying in a different sense.

Psycho(still can't shower unless it's a glass stall), and The Shining, are nightmare inducing too.

Have you seen the 'newspaper' parody in Mel Brooks' High Anxiety..??

Maybe laughing at that one might drive the real shower scene from your mind . . ..
