RE: A Study in Misleading Advertising.

It amazes me that we all have similar stories to share about MDG but no agency can do nothing to stop these scammers.

I filed a report last month with Consumer Affairs, I'm not expecting to ge anything out of this but it is a start. If you would all do the same there could be a chance that Consumer Affairs will put an end to MDG's crap.

Don't let unsuspecting people get scammed. Let everyone know about MDG's practices. Sooner or later they will either have to change their ways or dissapear.

Hmmm..

Every bad post uses the same language and tone. Could this be a counter ploy by a competitor of MDG. Could it be their agency doing this on their behalf? Hmmmm...

RE: Hmmm..

Sure, we all work for FutureShop, Best Buy etc.

Surprising every "good" post about MDG comes from you!
I wonder who do you work for? :)

I would suggest to tell your bosses to change their ways because their company is on its way to crash and burn. People are not stupid.

Ho hum. I just find it weird that so many people have the same stories. It sounds like that come from a database.

RE: Reply

Why are you asking? Do you want to sell me a new MDG machine? :)

I have a loaded Athlon 3200+ which I bought a couple of years ago from FutureShop and a Mac bought a year ago from the local Mac store in Edmonton.

I tried to buy a laptop a couple of months ago from MDG with the previously described results...My one and only encounter with the local manager (Edmonton), and the customer support manager in Ontario was the worst experience I've ever had with any retailer. Absolutely horrific. I asked to buy what THEY advertised and I was insulted and treated as if I was an ignorant moron.

I would never set foot on any of their stores again and I would never buy a laptop or any other computer from them even if they would sell it to me for $1.

P.S - I'm a professional and I work with computers for over 15 years, so I know how to read an ad, and I know what I want in my computers.

Why are you so bitter? : ) So you had a bad experience in a store. What else is new? I have had problems in stores before. That does not mean that I should boycott them all?

By the way, congratulations on working for Dell for 15 years? : ))

Advertising Scam

On Saturday, July 8 I visited MDG store in Mississauga and purchased Vision 3600 desktop computer that was advertised in MDG flyer.

When I got home, I decided to check what components are inside as the salesguy did not even bother telling me what I was getting. By looking at the System configuration it turned out that the cheapest and slowest Dual Core processor (Intel 805D - retails for $166) was installed instead of HyperThreading one (retail price is $550) that was advertised. Within the ad it was mentioned that the original CPU is Intel Pentium 3.6GHz with HyperThreading technology and that upgrade is Dual Core processor. Issue is that the cheapest Dual Core processor is $385 cheaper than the Hyper Threading processor from the flyer. Therefore, what I got was not the upgrade but rather the downgrade. At no point throughout the conversation was I informed that processor installed will be the cheapest dual core processor. I am positive that I am not the only who was tricked by this false advertisement.

I went there on Monday evening to ask few questions and get clarification what happened to the Dual Core processor that was advertised. At that point I wanted only what was in the ad (3.6 GHz HT processor - or upgrade to more expensive dual core CPU, not the chepeast one that I got). Store Manager Milan refused to replace my CPU because of the price difference. I told him that their ad does not mention the cheapest dual core processor and at that point he became very upset and pushed my PC and monitor across the counter - they almost fell on the floor and I had to make sure that they did not get damaged. He also told me "off" and refused to speak me after this. I didn't know what to do and I just left.

I have to admit that this was completely unprofessional conduct and I have never been treated like this in my life. I do not think that I'm being unreasonable, I would only like to get what was advertised. I attempted to contact MDG Customer Service for 4 days straight by both e-mail and phone and have not received any reply yet.

I will make sure that media knows about their scamming tactics, false advertising, and "exceptional" customer service. if you have any doubts, do yourself a favor and take your business elsewhere. At the end of the day you are not saving any money, you are creating more hassle for yourself in a long run.

MDG

They will reply to you if you insist, but they'll ask you to pay for the difference.

That's their standard practice.

Unfortunately you were unlucky enough to buy their system. I was fortunate to run away without buying anything from them.

File a report with consumer affairs. That's the least you can do at this point.

How is MDG in Ottawa

Hello,

I have heard many issues with MDG, from many people. I have been working in the computer industry for well it seems too long.

Although when I went to the store it seems like the sales person was fairly knowlegable. The person was young and tried to hide there knowledge gaps. He is only a sales person though, not a tech.

They did not give me answers as to why they are only using intel system, but that is probably just a business decision.

It appears the new systems they have now are intel integrated system boards.

I went there after my x decided to buy a system. I wanted to make sure she had a system that was good enough for what she was doing.

The system she purchased seems good enough for what she wanted it for. I sure hope nothing goes wrong with it.

Judging by the horrific stories I have heard from this franchise. I would not want to have to negotiate with them on any system repair.

All this being said her sister has had a system for about 2 yrs, and nothing has gone wrong with it. Hopefully nothing will.

I sure hope the same goes for the one my x purchased.

Well let me know how the rest of your service stories go with this company.

MDG Problems

I had a bad experience from the Burlington store.

I had the "bait and switch". I went to get the advertised Horizon 3400, but then at the store I was told its a bad computer with a inferior monitor and they don't even keep them in stock because its not worth the money. They tried to get me to buy the more expense Vision. I took the bait even though I knew it was their goal.

I had several issues with the computer not working and took several months before I could use the machine. I wanted to complain to the manager, but he said its not his problem. I asked for the owners name and he laughed and said he would never give out their name. He was told never to provide their names because they get too many complaints.

I was basically told that the sale is done and there is nothing I could do. I was also told by the manager that the stores do not have to honour the warranty if they choose not to. I work in the retail industry and have never come across such horrible customer service.

I learned my lesson and will not deal with MDG. I have since sold my MDG and purchased a Dell.

RE: MDG Problems

I still have nightmares after buying my computer from MDG.
First the sale is final. You can't get your money back.
Second, they will use any possible scam on you, hidden charges,
fake advertising. They are lying from the first word to the last one.
To your surprise you will find other pieces in your computer than
on your bill. Cheaper of course. It is the technician to blame.
Excuse him, it was a busy day, but you have to go 5 times to get it right.
There were 5 busy days for the poor technician.
Third, they don't have in stock all your items, they say you will receive them by
mail later. Another lie.
Fourth you can't even complain to their headquarters because the toll free
is a joke, it redirects you to the closest store to you, so you'll talk
to the same guy who just made you.
I lost a lot of money with this transaction, and they know
people don't have time to sue them.
Unless you have a good knowledge of computers and sales,
don't risk with these crocks. They will laugh for months about
your naivety. Instead go to a retail store and buy a HP, or a Compaq,
or an Apple. The computer comes from a factory, and if it has problems
you can return it. And you won't feel the bitter taste of being robbed by MDG
and actually enjoy your new computer. Think about it.

RE: MDG Problems

Hello.

Recently, Having just graduated from highschool, I decided to purchase a notebook PC for my secondary schooling. I was originally considering purchasing from MDG, as my family computers all originate from there. I was just wondering, if all this hype about the Edmonton area shop is true, or, If I DO go in with a person who is knowledgeable on computers, would I get my money's worth?

MDG is advertising on this website

http://www.techvibes.com/company/company5183.html

and they need reviews. Only good ones. Mine was not good so they didn't post it. Maybe someone else will have a chance to tell the truth.

Just don't go to MDG.
Read my experience with the Edmonton store on page 2 of this topic. Stay away from them!

Prefer Best Buy or Futureshop. You'll get a better machine for a better price, plus you'll get a 15-day UNCONDITIONAL return warranty. So if you're not 100% happy with your new computer you can always return it or exchange it for something else.

RE: MDG Problems

Thank you for your advice.

My older brother, and my father went into MDG to check them out anyways, and true to form, every computer that I had suggested off of the internet, as well as the flyer, were suspiciously out of stock, and they persisted in trying to sell my family ACER brand computers, overpriced ACER computers at that.

Interesting stories. I think that there are lot people that would have similar issues with Best Buy, Dell...etc.

I have bought MDG PCs before. They are not scammers. I got what I wanted. Many others have, as well.

I can't speak for all sales reps there, but mine was very courteous.

It is too bad that so many have had problems with MDG. Has anyone tried to get hold of them...i.e. customer service?

MDG

I sure did dennis. They were not willing to help and they told me flat out to take my case to the Consumer Affairs (which I did...).

After reading through all these complaints in here, and in other forums, I'm fairly certain that they're not going to last despite the ridiculous amount of money they spend on advertising.

People are not stupid and now with the Internet they have a way to vent their frustration and let everyone know about scammers like MDG.

MDG Customer Service

Their Customer Service is nothing but a joke...tried to reach them for weeks through e-mail and phone and when I was able to finally speak to someone, they told me that they had issues with their mail server (whatever...) and that they will reply to me within 24 hours if I send them an e-mail. I sent them an e-mail last Wednesday... needless to say, I never received any response.

I also filed a complaint with BBB and Consumer Affairs and am waiting to hear form them.

Anyone in mood for a class action? ;)
