NEED HELP WITH FLAT IRONS!

Hi..I'm new here at epinions.com so pardon me if this topic has already been covered..

I'm seriously Thinking about buying a Flat Iron to get rid of the frizz in my hair I have never owned one.But I love the way they make my hair look & feel..(friends have used them on me aswell as hair salons)I never wanted to get in the habbit of using them because of the damaging down Side..But My Long Thick Course as hell split end nightmare (it's somewhat straight though lol)Has Gone on long enough for no reason..I get regular hair cuts I don't blow Dry my hair ever I don't use irons or hair spray or chemicals on my hair & yet the insane damege goes on ..Point being I might aswell have that great hair in the meantime right? Ok, So I am so perplexed as to which flat iron is the best while not adding anymore damege to my dameged hair.. Is that even possible?

For purchasing I was looking at the wigo Jade Iron & The Chi Iron ..& needed some advise..ANYONE USED THE WIGO JADE IRON? ARE THE CLAIMS TRUE ABOUT IT NOT DAMEGING THE HAIR AFTER A LONG PERIOD OF TIME? DO THE FLAT IRON PROTECTENT SERUMS ACTUALLY WORK? WHICH ONES?
PLEASE ANYONE..SOMEONE HELP ME! THANK YOU.

RE: NEED HELP WITH FLAT IRONS!

Hi there! Unfortunately I've never used a flat iron, so I can't help you with your questions. But I just know from reading LOTS of flat iron reviews, that the Chi Flat Iron seems to get rave reviews. Seems like most folks say it is worth the expense.

Wish I could be of more help :)

Good luck,

Amy

RE: NEED HELP WITH FLAT IRONS!

I suggest just going to your favourite salon and picking up a ceramic hair straightener. To prevent the damage to your hair ( and trust me, I know damage I have been straighting my hair since grade eight everyday )! I like to use...

Wella, Liquid Hair Flat Iron Spray (14 dollars a bottle)
>It prevents heat damage when you use a hot tool!

Wella, Liquid Hair Restructurizer (14 dollars)
>It's a leave in treatment thats heat activated, it'll volumize and condition your hair and make it look shiny and healthy

Also, you can use a moisturing Shampoo and Conditioner like Paul Michelle Instant Moisture Shampoo/Conditioner!

All these products you can find at a salon, and while your at it, you might want to pick up a product to finish your sleek look like Wella, Liquid Hair Frozen Wax! Yes, I'm quite the fan of Wella hair products!

RE: NEED HELP WITH FLAT IRONS!

HI :) I have several friends that own the Chi irons and they LOVE it. I've tried a few out there myself and the Chi is the best. If you can get a Chi, I say go for it. You can get them brand new on Ebay for much less than retail also, just FYI :)

RE: NEED HELP WITH FLAT IRONS!

Hi,

I have been using the HAI 1 1/4 flat iron for two years and I LOVE it!!!! My hair is really healthy my hair dresser says. I use it like 4 X's a week w/ Biosilk. I also bleach my hair and I put the temp on the iron to 340.

RE: NEED HELP WITH FLAT IRONS!

I just purchased a flat iron myself. I didn't invest in a Chi because it's not something I do everyday, but I wanted to have it for variety. I got a Jilbere Porcelain Series 1 1/2 inch and I love it... it works wonderfully. Has heat settings up to over 300 degrees. It's really nice. It was only $39 at Sally's Beauty Supply store.

Flat Irons

I purchased a CHI but returned it because it has no temperature control. It worked well though. I only had it for a week. Since then, I read a lot of negative reviews on the CHI. They break down a lot. You can go to Folica.com. They have a lot of irons, discounted, free shipping and 30 day return policy. I just ordered a Solia iron. It is ceramic and touralmine and supposed to be great. I have been using the Biosilk Silk Therapy for protection. It's great. You can get it at ulta.
Hope this helps!
P.S. After using the flat irons i discovered they are so easy to use and now i couldn't imagine life without it!

Pros/Cons of straight irons

I have a large quantity of relatively fine, curly hair. Sometimes I like to style it straight and have gone through a lot of products and tools to get this way. I really like the amazing effect straight irons can provide, but I find there use very limited because the only thing a straight iron does is straighten. Why is this a problem? Because I'm unable to style it after its straightened. If I want my hair to flip a bit at the ends, curl just a bit toward my face, etc., a straightening iron just won't work. Not to mention, the iron removes almost all body from my hair. Blowdrying it straight is the only way for me to go. Regardless of how I style it, I use something like BioSilk Silk Therapy (love love love) to protect my hair, increase shine and augment the styling process.

RE: Pros/Cons of straight irons

This depends on the cut also... if you have a choppy/layered cut and you straighten, there are styling products (wax and pomades) that will allow you to flip the ends, etc. :)

RE: NEED HELP WITH FLAT IRONS!

Wigo Jade flat irons are true. They do not damage hair at all. I used mine for years on the hottest setting, and when i don't straiten my hair, it is still soft, moisturized, and silky, it is never dryed or damaged. I also use conditioner 3 times a week, and a silk serum every other day. I recommend using biosilk, or sexysilkyhair. But, yes, this wigo jade flat iron really does the trick. Chi's are no good, the cords come loose, and so do the plates. I also like the fact this iron has digital temp controls, not by numbers, but with words. This iron also has a 10 year warranty. I also like the fact that the plates cool down in about 2 minutes...So you don't have to wait for your iron to cool off before putting it up. I love my iron, and my hair stays silky, and soft all the time. I definately recommend any wigo jade flat iron to anyone. They are all maintenance free, and protect your hair from damage that normal irons will do. The plates glide smoothly across my hair, and never get snagged. All my friends love it, and have them. If your not sure about what size go with the 1", because you can straiten the same amount of hair with 1" plate that you can with a 2"...and if you decide to cut your hair short, you can use this iron. Definately go with wigo, and forget the Chi, and the Solano's. Wigo is the Way.

A Little Birdie Told Me

I hear GHD's are great =D GHD stands for Good Hair Day, and a little birdie told me that these CHI's are all the rage in the UK. They are kind of expensive, though (around $130+).

Check out http://www.ghdhair.com ^_^

BEWARE of FAKE CHI irons!!!

My cosmotologist suggested that I invest in a CHI iron. They have been rated as one of the best around. I used to own a Jibere, a Revlon, and a Conair... all of which don't even come close to the quality and guarantee of the CHI irons. However, she warned me to be careful as to where I purchase my CHI iron. The fact is that, nowadays, you can pick them up just about anywhere at several different price points. Both the CHI design and plates are patented and you won't find a different brand with the same plates and design. (Hello! Why else would patents exist and be useful?)

Down to the important Facts: 1)CHI irons are guaranteed by CHI. Also, they come with a warranty. 2)Unless a certified cosmotologist is employed at the place where you purchase your CHI, it is not under the guarantee that it is actually, authentically a CHI iron! 3)Other products, like Matrix and Redken (unless purchased at a place that employs a cosmotologist) are also NOT guaranteed to be what they say they are. For all you know, it could be scented water.

So... just a friendly tip to all: buyer be wary!

P.S.- Ipod's sell for higher prices (not including shipping) on ebay than they do on the actual Apple website. This is the same for many other products. I am a sociology major taking a Pop Culture class. This is something we discuss over and over again. Be an intellectual! Are you a conscious consumer? Or are you just being programmed to buy whatever is produced?

FLAT IRONS DONT BUY A CHI

im a hairdresser.this is what i have learned.

DO NOT BUY A CHI.
theyre pieces of garbage.expensive garbage.they were great when they first came out.The guy that invented it was bought out by chi and since then the flat irons have been lacking in performance.
the inventor started his own co. called infrashine.the infrashine iron is fantastic. Also the t3 tourmaline products are great.
I just bought a wigo jade flat iron and so far am pretty happy with the results. If you have the cash to drop, get the infrashine or the t3.also,i would suggest getting a 1".1 1/2" should be the largest.
the infrashine and t3 are between 150-200.buy from a reputable hairdresser or retailer. adjust temperature (which will help you from frying your hair)and start at the lowest setting and work your way up.if you are using the flat iron at leat three times a week, get a conditioning treatment once or twice a month.Aveda schools have cheap conditioning treatments.

as far as product goes-

-aveda makes a great product,"light elements" smoothing fluid.you can use alot without weighing your hair down and has a very light fragrance.isnt greasy like biosilk.
-"after party" by bed head.yummy smell.makes your hair really soft.
-"workforce 09" by redken.one of the most amazing products.cant believe i have lived my life without it.its a defrizzer,style refresher,light hold hairspray,styler.
use these products AFTER you flat iron.

RE: FLAT IRONS DONT BUY A CHI

Well, the CHI is getting good reviews here on Epinions - even new ones. I don't know what to say other than it appears that it's still a good product in some consumers' eyes. If I were in the market for one, I would probably buy one because I've heard such good things about it.

I've heard good things about the TIGI After Party product you mentioned as well. I was looking at TIGI products today at the hair salon but their selection was awful, so I didn't buy anything.

RE: FLAT IRONS DONT BUY A CHI

Hmm, I guess this is one that is left up to the consumer. I know several CHI owners who would re-purchase over and over if they had to. I've tried 3 or 4 types and the CHI was by far the best in my opinion too. I don't straighten everyday though so I settled for something more inexpensive.

My Wigo wigged out!

I just purchased a Wigo Jade flat iron yesterday. I got it out tonight to try it and it was so smooth going through my hair and didn't pull at all. I was going to keep this one because I haven't had much luck with other inexpensive brands. But, then I turned it off and walked in another room and heard a loud POP sound. I went back into the bathroom and the jade was literally cracking and flying off the flat iron! It cracked all into the sink and all over my counter. Crazy! It will definitely be returned and I definitely won't buy another jade iron. I think I may just go ahead and invest in a Chi - a friend of mine has one and she absolutely loves it! She actually dropped hers in the toilet and Chi replaced it for her!

Wigo Jade Flat Iron

I just bought the Wigo Jade Flat Iron. I was hesitant due to the previous posts, but I got such a good deal on e-bay, I tried it. I LOVE IT!!!! I have thick wavy hair and have used a cheap iron, and a ceramic iron and I could never get it really really straight. Anytime I went to the salon to get my hair cut or highlighted (which is only like once a year) they always make it sooooo flat. So I realized it was the iron. The wigo gets hot enough to straighten my hair so flat. And it stays flat for a couple of days until I wash it. It doesn't snag my hair like my ceramic one did. And the price was a lot better than the chi or paul mitchell. I have gotten soooo many compliments on how good my hair looks in the last week since I started using the Wigo. I highly recommend it!!!!! Oh, I almost forgot. I got the 1 1/2" blades and they are a bit bulky. I would suggest the 1" blades. They would probably work just as good but not be as bulky and cheaper too!
